No, it won't adversely affect your NPC at all. However it looks like when you eventually get to decide between which Tactics Manual to obtain, you'll have to choose 1 style to play as your NPC's "main job".

Ok, just finished the Blighted one.

I also am on the third weapon. They didn't have any hydro axes so I bought a regular battleaxe, which Luto took.

I'm at Level 51, did all the quests so far except Regaining Trust and the Tactics manual one.

I just need a good place to level my npc, so please I'd love advice about where you guys are going after level 50.

Well, I don't know what your jobs are, but you might be able to try the Helm Beetles/Bats in Crawlers or Ranperre's if you don't have a job that can cure.

Personally, I kill the Tulwar Scorpions and lizards in the west area of Attohwa, NPC has gotten to 55 so far on them, but the mobs' AOEs are pretty nasty.

On another note, seeing as my NPC is 55 now and Luto and my NPC say nothing, does anyone know anyhting about the Genkai II quest? :S

You might want to try and get a better relationship with your NPC.

I know many people have reported not being able to get some of the quests even though their NPC met the requirements. I was able to get the level cap quest right at 50, yet some others weren't.

Has anyone figured out exactly what those Tactics Books do for your NPC?

As a RDM, I often go Attacker (as stated to increase damage), but for some jobs Shield or Healer is the better choice and I would rather "look before I leap" with those things.

If you're a monk or white mage with a ninja sub, Garlaige Citadel is a great place to level your NPC up to level 60. When you enter, drop down to the Serket area and fight the pots or skeletons. The mobs there go up to the low 60's, so your NPC will get a good chunk of xp with the least amount of risk on your part.

The Fallen Majors are quite a pushover, though they have a higher defense, they won't cast any spells. The Fallen Mages are a bit trickier, so it's important to kept them silenced if you go as whm, plus if you don't do that as soon as they pop, you'll probably have to deal with Ice Spikes. Watch out for the -aga spells. Same with the Magic Jugs, but at least you don't have to worry about paralysis from them, plus their levels are a bit higher range.

I'm a bit curious if anyone has given any thought to where they're going to solo when their NPC is on the 60-65 stretch. As a whm, it seems like Toraimarai or Gustav would be the next logical step with Doom Mages and Soldiers in the 65-71 level range. Has anyone else given any thought to that stretch?

And more on topic, has anyone gotten the tactics manuals yet? And if so, any reports on added effects?

Thanks for the areas we can level up at (Attowa Chasm and Garlidge Citadel). Really appreciate you taking the time to post this.

I have a whm friend I can go with, so it will help with the four of us pounding on them.

Could you elaborate at all on LB2? Who starts it? Did you have your NPC capped at 55? There isn't much on this quest out there yet and I'd like to hear some firsthand experiences.

I have a feeling that Chameleon Capers is not really the "fourth" quest. I think it might be better to think of Genkai quests as entirely separate, but I guess we'll have to wait and see if someone gets C.C. before Genkai 2. As of right now, all this really means is that Genkai 2 requires less affinity with your NPC than C.C. does, and level 55 (or maybe people are just coincidentally hitting 55 and enough affinity at the same time, and you really only need to be 51+ like our Genkai). Plenty of people got the Genkai 1 quest before they got Blighted Gloom, for example.

So yeah, we'll see. My NPC is only 45 and I know a guy with a 55 NPC, but I'm about 2 calls behind him. So once he gets C.C., I should get it two days later, unless it really does require Genkai 2 to be obtained.

I have tried Riverne - Site #A01 and can confirm you can NOT call them there. You probably just can't call them in capped areas, unless it's a quest. (That was to pdragonfly btw)

BTW, once I did the Genkai II quest, I noticed now that my NPC now has a third choice in headgear o_O However, I don't really know whether it was based on the Genkai II quest or basic NPC affinity that he received it... forgot to check before receiving the quest.

A Hachimaki, a Sallet, and now a Kabuto T_T orz

OK guys - here's something new for you to check out.

I took my NPC for the second Promyvion quest. As we know the current formula is (on level 1):

NPC exp gained after completing quest = 300 + n x40
n = number of mobs killed

So basically - when you kill 20 mobs you should get:
Exp = 300 + 20x40 = 300 + 800 = 1100.

BUT!

Once I got into Promyvion I used my Chariot Band.

Quick reminder:
Chariot Band
Experience point bonus: +75%
Maximum duration: 90 min.
Maximum bonus: 500

I killed exactly 20 mobs on level 1 and my NPC gained 1300 exp not 1100!

So it would mean that the formula changed into this:

Exp = 300 + n x 50 = 300 + 20 x 50 = 1300

And now I have 2 theories:

THEORY 1
The exp for each mob killed for your NPC raises when you repeat the quest. Meaning - when you do the quest for the first time you get 40 exp per kill, then 50, then... maybe more?

THEORY 2
The Chariot Band also works for your NPC - and if THIS theory is true it means that it gives 25% more experience for your NPC (you get 75% more) as:

exp per mob = 40
exp per mob + chariot band = 40 + 25% = 50

Please do more research - like take your NPC to Promyvion for the second time, kill 20 mobs on level 1 WITHOUT Chariot Band - and click on ??? - this should decide which theory is true. Or maybe there are more? Help me out! Thx.

PS: THanks a lot guys for keeping this thread alive and for filling it up with many many helpful infos!

One thing that I've noticed and haven't seen posted yet: It seems that there is both a Kill Limit and a Time Limit for how long your NPC will stay out. Your NPC will despawn based on which ever is reached first.

While leveling my NPC has said, "I need to leave soon. Other obligations call." and shortly after that he disapeared while we were resting saying, "Whoa! Is that the time? See you soon!"

However I've also recieved the message, "Phew! I'm actually starting to get tired. Shall we call the next fight our last?" We fought and killed one more mob and he despawned saying, "Been a busy day. See you soon!"

Now, I've also had him say he needs to leave soon, then we killed a mob, then he said that the next battle would be the last. As we were fighting the next mob the timer ran out and he disappeared mid-fight with the "Whoa! Is that the time?" line.

Next time I summon him I'll count the number of kills and how long he's out and see if we can come up with anything conclusive.
