For Blighted Gloom, when you finish it do you get a 3rd headgear option? On the guide it says at the end you gain a new headgear option.

Well I got the Quest when I had the 2nd gear option show up (faceguard oooogly T.T) and when I finished I see no newly added headgear option.

The headgear options have lined up exactly with my quests. Blighted gloom opened after the 2nd became available, Regaining Trust after the third, and Chameleon Capers today after the 4th. This might just be coincidence, but it has lined up with the new headgear choices every time so far.

To the person wondering about escorting the baby brother, if you "let's chat" with your NPC, they can talk about a variety of things. This includes one blurb specific to the town you're in, as well as your NPC's personality.

These aren't new quests or anything, they're just amusing/interesting text. My NPC happens to be the "charming" personality. Which is particularly amusing in Bastok. (Names for personalities are taking from the "cheat menu" .DAT file, if they sound arbitrary to you.)

"Sullen":

Jeuno: With all its technology, the Duchy of Jeuno really is an advanced nation.
I wonder how tall the cranes in Upper Jeuno are.
San d'Oria: Apparently, the construction of the cathedral took 120 years to complete.
A structure like the Chateau d'Oraguille must take centuries.
Bastok: Does the water wheel on top of the Metalworks move the water, or does the water spin the wheel...?
Windurst: In Port Windurst, people have opened stores on top of boats in the harbor.
I wonder if they ever change locations...

"Passionate":

Jeuno: Have you ever lit the lamps of Jeuno?
I once helped illuminate the city all the way from the port to Ru'Lude Gardens!
San d'Oria: Chateau d'Oraguille is so huge, I had to start running around to see everything!
Luckily a nice guard came and gave me a tour of the Bostaunieux Oubliette.
Bastok: Don't you ever get tired of waiting for the elevator and just feel like jumping down instead?
No...?
Windurst: I was walking around town when a huge nut fell out of a tree and bounced off my head.
You should be careful!

"Charming":

Jeuno: Did you know that there are two auction houses in Upper Jeuno?
Remembering which one is less crowded is nice when you feel like avoiding the crush of people.
San d'Oria: If you stand by the fountain, some suspicious character will try to engage you in a game of dice.
I think he has some kind of gambling problem...
Bastok: I just saw a child walking by with an armful of subligaria.
Bastok is a weird place...
Windurst: Windurst truly is a magical nation.
I was just teleported from Windurst Woods to Windurst Waters in the blink of an eye.

"Serious":

Jeuno: You can find the most amazing things for sale in Ru'Lude Gardens.
The Mithran flower shop girl definitely keeps her stock fresh!
San d'Oria: Were you aware that the "moat" in "moat carp" refers to the waters surrounding Chateau d'Oraguille?
Bastok: I accepted a request in Bastok Markets to protect someone's younger brother.
He didn't seem too pleased to have a babysitter, though...
Windurst: Windurst Walls is famous for Heavens Tower and the manors of several prominent scholars.
The property prices must be astronomical.

"Big Sister":

Jeuno: Jeuno is definitely the place for clothes shopping.
You can't beat Bastok for jewelry, though.
San d'Oria: The furniture stores in San d'Oria have the best selection of goods.
No surprise with the Carpenters' Guild so close by.
Bastok: I never get tired of browsing the jewelry and cosmetic stores in Bastok.
Windurst: Windurst is famous for its hat shop.
I can never visit the city without popping in at least once to check the latest styles.

"Lively":

Jeuno: Every time I come here I can't help but think that at least one person must've fallen off the edge...
San d'Oria: How embarrassing...
I stumbled into the lumber stacked outside the Carpenters' Guild and knocked every single one down!
Bastok: I hope I'm as energetic as that chipper old guy in Bastok Markets when I get to his age...
Windurst: The hat shop in Windurst Waters has hoods with little ears attached on display.
Are they not for sale?

"Quiet":

Jeuno: Jeuno would be the perfect place with a nice restaurant.
Maybe I should go into the culinary business.
San d'Oria: Bean dishes are wholesome, healthy dishes.
Blue peas are especially good when you're running low on gil.
Bastok: I've never eaten a treant bulb before.
What do they taste like?
Windurst: The restaurant food in Windurst is prepared by the Culinarians' Guild.
I never miss a chance to indulge in one of their superb dishes.

"Cute":

Jeuno: I wonder what kind of meals the archduke eats?
Do archdukes eat curry...?
San d'Oria: Port San d'Oria is built on a lake, right?
What would happen if the waters rose too high...?
Bastok: Whose job is it to raise the bridge in Port Bastok?
What if they fall asleep? Will the airship crash into the bridge?
Windurst: There seems to be a lot of water in Windurst.
What happens if there's a rainstorm and everything floods?
It wouldn't take much to submerge a wee Tarutaru...

80%-99% into level: "Any time now. My next level is very close indeed."

race have sligy different quotes, let me sort out my ss and give you what a taru f says. oh gender might make a sight difference too but i am not sure.

i just noticed this when i careflly read your quotes

0-20% "i just gained a level! you can't expect me to level up any time soon"
20-40% "I think I must be almost halfway to my next level. No time to be slacking off!
40-60% Come on! I need to gain a little more experance for my next level"
80-99% woohoo! I'll be leveling up really soon!"

i also wonder now reading though the personally thing if that effects what they say for exp as well.

it will be intersing to know what effects ther pseronally. since this is a RP game i want to put a magor influnce on race.

with that being said taru female =lively?

My NPC is nearing level 55 and I can't seem to get the level 60 cap quest yet. Luto just keeps talking about Palemeto hasn't opened her eyes yet. It's been this way for 2-3 days now and wondering if I missed something. I've been calling with signal+tactics pearl and now my tactics is out of charges for this week (2nd tactics pearl). I've done all the affinity quests listed. I tried talking to the guy in the infirmary but he doesn't mention her. I've also got only one option for headgear besides the blue ribbon and it just says "a headgear". Any ideas?

I just got the Fashionable Equipment menu, what does that do? O.o

*Edit: Nevermind, I think I figured it out, just basically allows you to pick the current piece of equipment that your npc is wearing so that they keep wearing it every time you call them out.*

Mythril armor 4tw. Back when the NPC was first released, I got my NPC in mythril armor. Looked completely badass. Then a gob and his friends joined together and bombed him back to elvaan RSE. Post-update, I got mythril breastplate once, but lost it. Good thing sandy usually dominates conquest, so there are plenty of places to lvl it and get mythril armor back and hopefully lock it.

Also, my NPC seems to lvl fast. I've been killing rumbles crawlers, wespes, and dragonflies with a lvl 50 npc and he got to 52 in ~4hrs. That's ~6.75k/hr. If he was getting 150xp/kill, it would take 180 kills to lvl. But, he can only kill 80 mobs in 4 callings. Maybe the XP formula is different for NPC.

Affinity, not level, determines the duration which the NPC stays out. If you drop your pearl enough, you can even get your NPC to quit at 12 kills(maybe even worse!).

Starting NPC: 15 mobs/45 minutes
1st Upgrade: 20 mobs/55 minutes
2nd Upgrade: Not sure, I've heard 25 mobs/65 minutes, which would follow the pattern.

I have a few questions regarding Weapon Upgrades.
My NPC just reached level 32 today, and I just got the CS with Luto asking about spare weapons.

1) Is this Weapon Upgrade #1?
...ie, if I want her to switch to GK, do I hand her an Uchigatana or Nodachi?
2) If I just want her to stick with Sword do I now pass her a Bronze Sword, or a Spatha?
3) If I change my mind later on down the road, do I need to start back over at upgrade #1 again? (ie switching to 1H Axe at level 59, would I pass her the Bronze Axe, or does it keep track of which CSs I've received and I can just go ahead and give her the final upgrade if I've opened it (ie, Mythril Axe)?)

I've seen no real information on how this works as of yet.
Unless I'm missing something somewhere.
I went ahead and passed her an Uchigatana just in case, but I would like to know if I change my mind later

I just got my NPC yesterday. I took the NPC to Eastern Altepa Desert to kill beetles and dhalmels, and after 29 mobs it has hit level 31. (Only 2 calls, go figure.)

I'm thinking about this strategy on leveling NPC

30-35: Eastern Altepa Desert (beetle/dhalmel)
35-40: Western Altepa Desert (dhalmel/ant. essedarius)
40-45: Western Altepa Desert (beetle)
45-50: Quicksand Cave (beetle)

would this be the quickest way in getting NPC to 50 to unlock the first level cap quest or not? I'm just asking for suggestions.

Here are some differences I noticed from what is posted above.

Time that the NPC stays out:
My npc was level 53 and staying out just over 60 minutes (65).
Hit 54 today and it did not increase.

Promy quest:
If you fail at the Promy quest, you have to wait until the next to do the quest again. Go directly to the Promy Rendv place to begin again.
Locations to level:
Attowa Chasm is a place that you can call your NPC in.

Armor changes:
The armor on my NPC keeps changing even though I have leveled him in the same place and the same nation is controling it.
In addition I have been seeing completely new armor. Sorry I can't name them cause I'm not good with melee armor recognition.

And some additional information:

The healer is very weak.
Example: I went to level in Garliage Citadel, my npc level 52 attacker, my friends level 41 healer. BOOM! healer dies first fight. My friend completed the promy quest and so called him out again during the next fight and BOOM! the healer dies again, my friend leaves all pissed.

My other friend has been leveling her Attacker NPC who is level 34 with me fighting the same mobs. Neither one of our npc's died.

I do not know about the Shield and what it can or can not endure.

I just want to add that as a level 75 blm, I was able to keep all the hate in the party (pulled with blizzard3), so the healer must have died from the mobs aoe.

Hope this addl info helps.

Edited to correct promy.

Just wondering, does the Chariet Band affect NPCs? I remember one of the posts talking about how the NPC got a 25% bonus while doing the Promy quest so was interested if anyone tested if you get an exp bonus while leveling normally.

Asking because I don't level much so my Empress Band goes to waste most of the time. Would be nice if my NPC can at least put it to use.

Wrong.

You can attempt the promivion quest once per RL day, and it is reset at JP midnight.
So technically you could call your npc using the RP in Prom, at 10am EDT. Use for 45 minutes, do quest or whatever. Do not complete the quest, and call it again at 11:01 am EDT. (Note these time will shift back 1 hour this weekend due to time change).

I have called my NPC 3 times this week alone in Promivion. I use him in healer mod to help me plow through mobs of the first floor for farming and for solo XP so I don't have to buy new gear for leveling my NIN sub.

Time out is based on affinity. My NPC is 55 and stays out for 75 minutes (an hour and 15 minutes).

You can attempt it once a day after midnight JP time; however, once you complete it you can only do it once a conquest tally.

The armor your NPC is using depends on where they are leveling at and what nation does control it. For instance, if you level in a place controlled by windurst... your NPC tends to have armor that is made of cloth and bone. If it's controlled by bastok, it will have armor made from smithing and goldsmithing. If it's controlled by Sandy, it will have armor made from smithing and leathercrafting.

The level difference should explain this. My NPC is a soothing healer and takes no more damage than a mage her level would.

His NPC probably never had the chance to pull the kind of aggro a level 52 attacker would.

This is the most likely answer, which is why I don't fight mobs that use an AoE. :P

Perhaps I'm going about this the wrong way.

I go to the Juneo Rhondv. place and check quests.

Should I be going to the promy rhondv place instead?

My NPC has just hit lvl 33 and I've probably called him 10 times or so, plus I just got the 2nd weapon upgrade, yet Luto still hasn't given me the food quest. Is this unusual for it to take so long? I thought that the food quest was available right off the bat? I've never done anything like drop my pearl, and he's only died once. This sound like anyone elses NPC, or am I missing a step?

BTW: This is my first post, so hook me up with a Rate Up ^^

Actually...that's a lie...but still...feel free.

Not completely positive on this, since tonite was the first time ive played in a party with somoene else's NPC, but I think the NPC has to be yours in order for TA to work on it. Ive done it plenty of times to my won npc, but it didnt seem to work the two times i did it to the other party member's npc.
