I was trying to clear my quest log in San d'Oria yesterday when I see:

Player shouting: {Teleport-Dem} {Can I have it?} please someone I'll pay 6k!

Saw this a few times and was almost done so I felt sorry for him. For some reason I figured, lets check him first

/sea all Player

BLM1/ =result

Me: Um do you have Teleport Dem crystal?
Player: ****, stupid mules!

You don't have to be a newbie to make mistakes XD

Not on fairy. The economy has been messed up as of late for reasons I don’t care enough to figure out so prices are a bit lower than usual, but that's less than half of what I paid for it when I got it. That’s beside the point anyway. My point was: why would anyone sell one of their most valuable pieces of equipment period? Especially to some noob who doesn't know what it’s for, and can't even use it. It's like walking up to a damage dealer and saying: "I'll give you 1 million for your Scorpion Harness lolololololz."

A little exaggerated... but no. Just no.

One of my greater areas of ignorance, when I was first starting (the December after NA release) was my ideas about crafting. I remember telling everyone:

"Yeah, I plan on getting to 100 in every tradeskill, eventually."

Of course, to be completely fair, people would reply back with, "Yeah, I might do that myself."

The NA community at large was completely oblivious to the limit on skill levels you could achieve beyond level 60 in any craft. In fact, when I first heard someone tell me about it (allegedly from a higher-level, Japanese friend), I thought of it as a silly, nasty, very unlikely rumor. I literally mocked and laughed at the notion publicly.

I just remembered something I did one time in Yhoator Jungle (not that the location really matters). Was in a good party and we were chaining mandys like crazy. I was playing as drg at the time, and as such I keep using Ctrl+J or Alt+J (whichever it is. I don't use a keyboard most of the time for skills) to check how long my jump has left before I can use it again.

Well things are going fine and we finish off a mandy which should have given a chain #1, but we got nothing. There were a few O.o and people asking what happened. After a quick check I realised somehow I'd bumped the 'Call for help' key combination (Ctrl/Alt+ H or G). I was really embarrassed and said they could kick me if they wanted, but they just laughed and said not to do it again.

Now I use a macro with various recasts I need to know listed so that I can hit it and see what skills are ready or still on cooldown. This also has the advantage of letting you know when things like berserk will wear off (eg- if the timer says 3:00 then there is 1 minute of berserk left...assuming I've remembered the duration correctly).

(In order to keep this thread alive, I give you some lower quality n00b moments.
These may not be as good but they were on sale 2 for a dollar.)

Once upon a weekend, not so long ago, outside of Kazham...

*flash back wavy lines effect*

Friday:

I'm looking for party members and see a level 25 THF with no subjob seeking. Nuff said about that.
(no, of course I didn't invite him)

Level 25 THF/5 WAR
/sigh
(yeah, I invited him. There was no one else available and the pt agreed... we did our best not to refer to him as "Mr. Gimpy" to his face.)

We booted him after he ran up and provoked a goblin as the puller was returning with a mandy. (Tank had to pull because he "didn't have any ranged weapons") Thankfully he died before getting close enough to us to wipe us all out. He also HP'd to Jeuno immediately after death even though we had a WHM with raise.
(?)

Sunday:

I ask a WAR/MNK to join our pt. He's in La Thiene so it's a bit of a trip. He sends me a tell later informing me that he's made it to Jugner Forest. As a joke, I ask him why he didn't rent the rocket chocobo. And um. . . He believed me. He asked where he could rent one and apologized for not having rented it in the first place.

^^'

Once in Khazam, he asks if he's the tank. Not a stupid question... if it hadn't been for the fact that I've already informed him we had a PLD tanking.

After we start fighting, we all notice he's using a scythe.. and keeps taking hate by using 300 TP WS's and even his 2 hour... for some odd reason. After taking hate and his hp goes into the yellow he runs to the mages for a heal.

>.>

After the fight he says, "That was close!!"

This happens often.

After a bit, he says he has to go and asks if he should get a replacement. We agree to the replacement and he asks if we needed a WHM.

PLD: Nah, we've got enough healers, we need another DD.
WAR: What's a DD?
ME: Damage Dealer
WAR: you mean a NIN?
PLD: No. . . that's a tank

I know a NIN is also a DD, but it's still kinda funny hearing a DD ask what a DD is.
:P

Joined a new Ls were there a some new players. I really like them, make you feel like you aren't a newb yourself and you know something about the game >.<
And it's nice sitting there with a grin on your face when someone goes afk and the newb asks what afk and later wb means ^^
And they learn so many gamephrases that when someone comes from diner and says how he loves BK, the newb asks what BK means XD Even met someone who didn't know what WC is.... said he never learnt the different names for restroom in school >.<

But this nice newb met a guy called Donutchef in Windy and we made some jokes about asking him for some donuts. She said she was at AH and he far away from her. So I type /sea all Donutchef and see that he is in the same area and a Blm75/Whm37.
I then joke around that he could warp the Donuts to us. Then I got asked what warp is >.<
She then is totally surprised that he really is a Blm75 and how'd I know, since I was in Bastok. I didn't want to make fun of her but couldn't resist it.

I said that I played for so long that I know every player except the newcomers.
By that time I get a lot of lol/rofl/lmao-tells from the others >.< She is in total awe and totally fascinated...
I had to laugh so much but then I told her about the /sea all name function >.<
As payback she wanted to have a Donut XD

Ok not extremely funny but didn't want to let thread die again :P

I just got the game, installed, updated etc. Then made my character got logged on first.... Wasn't satisfied with the name and looks and I also picked WHM but I wanted to be a BLM. n00b moment #1

- You can change your job at any moment you want. I had no idea...

Either way I wasn't happy with my Taru anyway. So I deleted, created new one. I had talked to someone and then when I returned with yet another new character, I couldn't find them. n00b moment #2

- More than 1 server, again no idea.

After having levelled and finally unlocking my subjob. I was talking to a friend I made and told him I was going to level WHM as sub. He then boasted to me about how he had levelled all the starting jobs to 10. n00b moment #3

- You can change your sub job and level it before unlocking the possibility of using it. I -still- had no idea untill he told me

As far as I know, water closet (which I believe is what WC means), is a European, or at least non-American term. The only reason I knew what it meant when I started playing this game was cuz I've traveled to Europe. I have never once heard anyone use the term, or seen it on any bathroom anywhere in America.

From the level 22, and the rest of the post referencing getting 180 to 190 xp off crabs and pulling a Giant Ranger, I assume you meant to say you were levelling in Qufim.

I was the n00b who had a "/s Get over here!" macro line with my provoke at level 8, or so. It's neat that I used a macro at level 8, but it's horrible that I thought I was cool, because I knew how to make one, thus /saying it to everyone around me in the Fumaroles.

Later one, I was the n00b that realized I could grab a monster with Provoke, but never used it in my first party with other people, because I didn't want to get attacked. The WHM died as a result...

Later I switched to WHM and decided it'd be neat to a have a /p and /s line in my cure macros with dumb things like, "/s Ouch, that looks like it hurts. (Cure II)" and whatnot... After my first time partying by the tower in Qufim (Where 3-4 parties reside on a regular basis), the other parties made it quite aware that they didn't find my /s macro lines as neat as I did. I felt quite foolish.

Good times :D

Don't really know if it's noobish or not...
But I have a "problem" using Macros. I grew up with nes, snes, dreamcast,ps etc so I'm not used to Keyboards and therefore play with a controller/ gamepad, whatever you call it, and I don't like using macros since i'm not used to them.
And it's faster for me to hit my button two times and cure someone than to search for my macro for it...

But it happened often that I was whm in a pt and they complained about me not using macros since they don't know who I'm healing..... Why would you want to know anyway???

And even if there was another /whm helping out, Macros don't avoid both of us curing the same guy at the same time.... And even without a Macro I see who the other one is curing...
But because I'm asked to I use Macros, what takes a bit longer for me.... and then i get complaints about me taking to long to heal....
Is it really that Important for a Whm to have Cure-macros? I don't think so....

Sushendo, what is really important is that you can heal someone split seconds after you think "he needs to be healed now". For me, macros do that, it takes forever to find the proper spells in the list. But if for you the time efficient way is doing it with the menus, do it FTW! ^_^
Actually, while other WHMs have different macros for every party member, it's more efficient for me to target them with the F keys, for example. There are different schools in the Whm handling ^_- Do what is better for you ^_^ And if noone dies because of your cures getting too late, then you are on the good way. If people dies because you cure too late, then consider changing your method ^_^

Keep your spells sorted and you'll get used to where they are in the list; picking one out gets to be as fast as finding the macro for it. In particular, the default sort order puts your Cures right at the top of the list; you get at them very quickly. I don't tend to use a macro just to cast a single spell, whatever it is.
