partying in the dunes as thf, setup was: war, thf(me),thf, mnk, whm, drk.
good setup i thought, only the blm didnt have a subjob.
after the first couple of fights, it was clear the war had no idea what his job was, and being the only tank job we had....it went something like this:
thf> pulling Goblin Leecher! <call>
drk> warrior, make sure you voke it
war> whats voke?
(this didnt bother me too much, happens alot in the dunes. we explained what it was and he was ok from there.)
mnk> boosting!
(nobody said anything about this guys macros, i'm pretty sure we'd all seen worse)
the fights were good, exp was rolling in, only thing that worried me was the other thf, half way through each fight he would disengage and walk (not run) away from the mob.
thf> Snaek attack, ninja style! (he spelt it like this too)
he then engaged again and walked in a curvy line towards the mob.
the drk /telled me and said ''hey check it out lol.''
everytime the thf used sneak attack, he would do the same thing. and nearly everytime SA would miss anyway -.-;
i'm not sure if it was a macro, but when he hit he said ''lol didn't see me coming''
i really had no idea what would make him do that...

I was out in a secluded area xping BST for a good 30-45 minutes with no interruptions.
Out of nowhere 2 ill-geared people show up, park on top of me and begin killing pets.
In say I type “’Mob’ Experience Points Pet Please.†(All of which was auto-translated minus ‘mob’ which was a <t>) They say nothing and continue killing the mobs. I finish off a kill, charm/sic my next set to keep chain alive and the following conversation took place in /tell:

<Me>: Dog {Where?}
The above was repeated 3 times over the course of the next few fights.
When I was out of prey, and he had killed off all the mobs he kneeled to rest, and was greeted by swift boot from a freshly popped mob. He then ran over to me and said “Kill it.â€

trying to get war to 37 as a 'just in case' sub, I found myself in Jungles. was lvl 27 at the time.
I get an invite and I join. I'm the 3rd in party and I was amazed to see how fast the leader got the other 3. We all head out of Kazham and I'm expecting that we'll scout a suitable camp. About 30 steps in, the leader provkes a Gob.
<me> Am I tank?
*no answer*
The Gob starts tearing into a party member so I voke it and start tanking it. We kill it after a bit then rested. I'm expecting some cures at this point but the mage has no mp left. I check the party closely and I find;

Last night we're in Mt. Zayohlm (sp?), and the THF is trying to get to the staging point while we're waiting for a 6th, and he comes running back...
(THF) I got aggro by a jelly... help me!
So I check it, it's only VT, so I sleep it. Then the NIN vokes it and we rest and buff up. The NIN dies, then the rest of the party ends up dieing, before the THF zones it... 15 feet from our camp.
(NIN) Why didn't you jsut zone it from the start?
(THF) I forgot... sorry you all died.
That's right... she got aggro right at the zone, and instead of Fleeing and zoning it, she kills the other members in the group. Fun stuff...
Then later, our BLM gets aggro from a Fire Elemental. I ES+Sleep it, we're good. Then, the WHM get's aggro from a Pug in the area, and he dies. While he's dead, the BLM says, "Let's kill the Elemental." You can only imagine where it goes from there... I tell everyone to zone, The Elemental wakes up and kills 2 members with Firaga II (I think), and 2 more people die from Jelly aggro... we were done after that. At least I got to 66...

Now his advice isn't bad, but I really don't like other members acting like PT leader when that's my position, especially when they are sub-less. I decide to let him talk, thinking he might have a character on another server or something. But then we get gob aggro, and we're too far from the zone to zone it. Most of us 2Hour (with the exception being the WHM), and we just barely lose. Total party wipe.
(Member#1) WHM why didn't you use {Benediction}?
(Member#2) Yeah {Benediction} could have saved us.

Leveling Dark Knight low 60s. I get an invite and take it, not like they were flying in or anything. Leader says to come to Whitegate, I warp in and get invited. We head out to Aydeewa Subterane and the SAM in the party who was paying more attention than I was notices that we don't have a tank. For some dumbass reason we decided to a fight anyway, we had a RDM(leader) and a WHM so we had the healing power.
Three people die.
While waiting for raise sickness to wear off I examined the leader, he's wearing a Royal Cloak, an HQ staff, and a bunch of other expensive gear. He's also rank 9. The only thing I could think is that he bought the account.
Not really funny, just one of those things that makes you want to reach through the screen and do some old fashioned physical violence to someone.
Story 2:
Went AFK in Southern Sandy with some stuff in my Bazaar, not really gone long, just a visit to the {Throne Room}. I come back and there is some taru in front of me and a /tell on my screen asking me for gil.
I worked my but off for my gil to buy the best gear I could get my hands on, so I'm not really very kind to beggars, even if they are new. I explain rather tersly that nothing is free in this game and that he should go farm some crystals and rabbit hides and sell those. That should get him by for a few levels.
He says OK and wonders off. I check to see who is on my LS atm and am just about to tell the tale, when I get another /tell from this guy. As best as I can remember it said "can i have some stuff ur not sellin". Now I'm bitter, so I just ignored him. He stood there a good 5 minutes while I was chatting on LS before wondering off again.
Now some of you may be thinking I'm an *** for not helping him, but I did tell him a very easy way to get the gil he needed to get him by. I might have considered helping him along further but I've already got my pet Newb, it's just too damn hard juggling 2 of them.

me : thf 13-15 around there full pt cant really remember jobs but a good pt none the less. we had a pler /anon after a few fights and our pl needing to rest ALOT i /tell him asking his lv he says 26 whm i freak but seain as we had a whm in pt too i figured we'ed be fine (mistake 1)
ok pt goes on slow but syeady exp no deaths then a bogy pops near us and pler say "watch this ill pwn this bogy" few min later and pler callin for help pler eats sand hps and dosnt come back.
pt continues slower exp but exp non the less. a guy from the pt says his ls buddy can pl use we say what lv he says 35 whm we say fine (mistake 2)
pler is better but not great like a lv 50 + one exp is exp anyway. night comes around and our friend bogy shows up again. final last word are "i bet i can kill that thing" little later 2nd pler has eaten sand. pler comes back for revenge as a 50-60 drg and waystes bogy.
pt in the dunes 3 hours waysted, total exp less than 3000 watchin not one but 2 plers eat sand from bogys pricless.

Ok this one made me almost quit the game. It certainly has kept me from leveling my RDM for PLD sub, until PLD is at least 70 to avoid the Dunes. PLD is 60 btw. I get an invite to a party and I accept. This was awhile ago but I believe the tank was a WAR/MNK (no problem, good Dunes tank). Anyway we get to the camp and it goes like this:

Now,I'm from Windurst. This week on my server Windurst is finally in control of the Elshimo Lowlands region, so instead of binding my tail inside Kazham at the homepoint crystal which is a good long run from the zoneline, I decided to bind at the War Warlock instead.
Now our party is level 25, 26 or so. I'm a PLD, we have a RNG, DRG, WHM, SAM, and WAR (I believe) and all of a sudden we have a goblin on us. Party decides to fight it so I provoke, cure myself as best as I can while the WHM cures me as best s/he can. Needless to say, I ate dust and immediately HPed to rejoin the fray.
Now the smart thing to do here would be to tell the party to ZONE THE SUCKER, because it's much too hard for us. Instead, absolutely loving how tough it is and being highly amused by my own death (it's a common thing with me), I provoke the thing off the other party members and tank it again, dying not once, but twice more before we finally kill it for 200 exp. Casualties? Three Paladin Deaths. All mine.
It is decided that no more goblins will be pulled, and rightfully so. We kill a few more mandies and then another goblin aggroes us. Not learning from the last time I provoke it and we try again. I die, homepoint, and return to the fray, seeing that while I was 'zoning' five feet away to the War Warlock, our DRG bit the dust. I provoke again and, getting the goblin down to 1/3 health, he suicides and kills me once more.
During all this our WHM said in party chat: 'wow, how did you do that?'
I ask 'do what?'
'you were dead, and then you were alive!'
apparently s/he didn't realize you could set your HP at the signet guy five feet away from our camp. S/he just saw me die, then run back in 5 seconds later hale and healthy.

I just remembered one of mine (there have been many!).
I remember when I first got my airship pass. I had been using the Selbina -> Mhaura ferry pretty extensively for a while (don't ask me why), but I had grown used to the mobs that would spawn.
Thinking the airship was the same way, when I first got to ride one, I asked my Linkshell what mobs popped on the 'ship. The response I got is still funny to me to this day:
"What, like Air Pugils?"

<,< I remember when the maps (or lack thereof) used to confuse the Hell out of me, so I never used the ones I had until sometime in the Dunes.
I went out to Bastok and went up on Vomp Hill, running around in circles thinking it was a mountain path that lead to San d'Oria or something. About fifteen minutes later, I noticed the gates to Bastok Markets in the distance and realized what was going on.
Then a veteran on a new character said she'd take me to Windurst, so off we went. We made it to Buburimu Peninsula where she disconnected. All of a sudden she's gone, I'm stranded in the middle of a place I've never been to without a map with my HP in Mhaura as a level 7 no-sub WHM... I made it to East Sarutabaruta somehow before two Yagudo sent me back to my HP in Mhaura. A level 16 Red Mage then escorted me back to Bastok while I was lost in the Dunes XD.
EDIT: Just want to add this part in; I, never having played an MMO before, had no idea what a macro was. So during this whole level 7 subless WHM lost in the Dunes fiasco, I ended up in a party in La Theine that said they'd take me back to San d'Oria if I helped them level. I'm using the menus at this point and get yelled at for not curing fast enough. They ask me if I'm using macros, I ask them what it is in return, they say something along the lines of "LOLN00B" and kick me without bothering to explain them at all.
Later, once I learned Raise, I saw the leader on another job, dead, and he asked me for a raise. He didn't get one (From me at least).
EDIT#2: Yes, I did read the manual when I first got the game, but I checked it again after that incident and saw the whole section on macros that I missed before. <.<;

All of a sudden she's gone, I'm stranded in the middle of a place I've never been to without a map with my HP in Mhaura as a level 7 no-sub WHM... I made it to East Sarutabaruta somehow before two Yagudo sent me back to my HP in Mhaura. A level 16 Red Mage then escorted me back to Bastok while I was lost in the Dunes XD.
EDIT: Just want to add this part in; I, never having played an MMO before, had no idea what a macro was. So during this whole level 7 subless WHM lost in the Dunes fiasco, I ended up in a party in La Theine that said they'd take me back to San d'Oria if I helped them level. I'm using the menus at this point and get yelled at for not curing fast enough. They ask me if I'm using macros, I ask them what it is in return, they say something along the lines of "LOLN00B" and kick me without bothering to explain them at all.
Later, once I learned Raise, I saw the leader on another job, dead, and he asked me for a raise. He didn't get one (From me at least).
EDIT#2: Yes, I did read the manual when I first got the game, but I checked it again after that incident and saw the whole section on macros that I missed before. <.<;

I see that they're directly to my left, so I lay on the Raise IIIs. I raised a Galka War when he says, as he gets up...
GalkaWar: "Our raiser's gay."

GW: "He looks gay. What self respecting man wears red and white?"
Me: "..."
Leader: "Well, GW, the Cleric's (what he's wearing) is Whm AFv2. It gives very good stat bonuses to Whms."

Yesterday in the dunes i was lfg NIN17/WAR8 soloing rabbits to kill time for an invite. I saw a BLM/WHM friend there and we were watching each others back as we soloed while lfg. She gets a party invite and then i get one soon after...but my search comment cleary said {/no}{/random}invites {/tell} first. And i assumed OMG noob is inviteing me cause i got no /tell but then my BLM friend says she askedthe guy to invite me so i agreed and joined. Luckily we had 2 PLs or i would have left the party (DRG/WHM(lolz) and a WHM/BLM they were /anon so i dont know the levels)they were both friends with the BLM i mentioned so i trusted them. We went to the secret beach and camped Pugils the party leader was a Galkan WAR 18 in scale gear (meh thats ok i guess since i was tanking) i told him to back-up tank and pull, he doesnt say anything so i give him my Hawkeyes and tell him to pull and he goes and voke pulls and i have to re establish the hate to keep damage and curing at a minimum at request of the DRG PL(because the WHM/BLM hadent arrived yet). I have a macro that tells noobs when my shadows r gone so i use it and wait for him to provoke i get hit with screwdriver for 186 damage PL cures me. I ask him to provke when i use the macro that says "{Utsusemi}{Down}{Provoke}{please}<scall13>" so he slowly responds "ok" i realize now he has no keyboard, so i use the macro again in the next fight and he still doesnt provoke >.< i tell him "when u see that i am getting hit so provoke" "ok" again. i go pull and he imediately provokes >.< i said "y did u do that???" he says i was getting hit...not a very good story but im just keeping this thread bumped :P
Anyone have an axe I can borrow for sky, I had to turn in my trial weapon and I can't dual weild anymore. This was at level 72.
Look in here for shinjaku's posts on skill ratings... oh yes, he said that... at ALLEGEDLY lvl 73, after 3 years of playing.
The other one to look out for is jinghles, in his vast compendium of threads version 2.0 (scroll down for my post collecting all his works.) Somehow, he's played for 3 years as well, and flatlines at the lvl 50 mark on all characters. Read everything these two... noobs seems too kinda word, almost... have said, and you'll understand the pain the mnk forum goes through.

Quick one from my first time in the Dunes:
Level 10 WAR, been talking about party strategy with a more experienced friend for a while, so I felt like hot (expletive deleted) for a newb. I was absolutely INTENT on tanking. Our puller was a THF who complained that he didn't have the DEF to survive pulls easily, but the rest of the party convinces him to go. He runs off and (knowing full well what "pulling" was) I chase after him. I stop and engage when I'm close to camp, only to realize that I was farther than I thought. Not knowing about how to break auto-lock, I start slowly pacing backwards towards camp, and the lizzie proceeds to quickly decimate the THF. He gets mad and asks me what the hell I was doing.
My reply? "You complained about your defense, so I went out to protect you."
Considered giving him five of those "crystal" thingees that had been raking in the gil as compensation.

all of these are so funny ^_^ I had a moment last night just got my war to lvl 30 in Kazham was coming out had forgotten to get a scroll of instant warp >_< mistake...got aggro'd by about 4 gobs on my way out of the jungle only to be hacked to death before i got anywhere near the zone...ended up hp'ing to jeuno and with it being about 1am i decided to go see if i could gain the lost exp solo in Qufim...hmmm started off well till a Wight pop'd where i was fighting worms, me being a war29 thinking i could take it lol anyway i died again shortly into this encounter and thought this is taking way to much time *was getting tired at this time 1:30am* did a /sea whm one guy popped up whm24
me war29: could i borrow you for a few minutes
whm24: sure what for?
me : i need you to plvl me :p

needless to say i got a few tells laughing at my predicament but i didnt care i got my level 30 back after a few EM's and made a friend :p

Quite a while ago whilst I was on my first charcter I had the distinct pleasure of going through Dunes as a whm. The party setup was average although I recall being the only mage, the party leader was a dragoon and had declared himself the tank. No problem thus far anything can tank in th dunes apart from a couple of mage classes.
First fight:
Thief pulls in a Lizard, everyone engages. A couple of cures later, lizard turns around and horribley murders my newbie body and a full wipe occurs. Confused I try andfind out whats wrong.
Dragoon >>> Wtf!! Why did you do that. Your curing too much!
Me >>> Erm why didn't anyone provoke.
Melee 1 >>> I'm not the tank only the tank provokes.
Me >>> Ok well why didn't the tank provoke.
Dragoon >>> Its not a good idea to voke!
Me >>> Why not?
Dragoon >>> It wastes the Whms Mp!
Me >>> Better that than everyone's Hp and Exp right?
At this point I was rather concerned, I had brushed up a little reading about how to play my job but maybe, maybe I had made a mistake. Needless to say I asked if he could try Provoking to see I'd it worked and he agreed surprisingly.
Second fight:
Same again Thf pulls in a lizard, everyone enagages. This time the Dragoon does provoke... but just the once. Once again we died, although we did have one survivor. But at that point things kinda stopped mattering.
Dragoon >>> OMG your such a ****ing noob! Don't you know how to ****ing do your job. You used more mp that time than before I was right.
Me >>> We still died though, but one provoke did save one person >.>
Dragoon >>> STFU!!
At this point I was kicked. Great experiance to start the game with... couldn't bring myself to play it for a week afterwards. Why can't all Dragoons be sexy :(
