...why was a Drg tanking, again?

Quote:
No problem thus far anything can tank in th dunes apart from a couple of mage classes.

Hmm...I have a few:

I was in the Dunes as a subless MNK at level 16ish. For some reason, I wanted to tank. I asked if I could, and all I got was "lol MNK's can't tank." I asked why and they just said something along the lines of me just not being able to...didn't really answer my question >.>

And another time...I had just got finished in a party in Yhoator. I was an excited level 30 WHM, the party was great, made some friends, and all that cool stuff. I eagerly volunteered to Sneak/Invis people out (I was very...very excited o.0) and the JP War/Nin said he needed help. So I Sneak/Invis both of us while we're still in Yhoator >.> and then we get out. (I had no idea that they would wear off when you zoned) So I had a map and everything...but I was still extremely lost. I was almost sweating from being nervous and frustrated. I never get lost on the way there on Chocobo, of course... The JP guy just made faces and /comfort'ed me a bunch. Then when I was resting for MP for like the 3rd time, he said, to my sheer surprise:

"Lost little child."

I had NO idea that he could speak English...but anyway, I had to go AFK for a while. He eventually found his way back to Kazham. I just used my Instant Warp scroll and got out.

Another time, I was sitting around in Bastok with two friends of mine, and this Taru kept like sitting around us, but not saying anything. Whenever we'd get up to move a bit, he'd follow... We asked him multiple times if he would join the convo. But after a while, he just asked

"how do you log out?"

I told him to do "/logout" and he promptly did so..

GW: "Yeeeaaahhh... get someone else to raise me.. a NON GAY, thank you.."
Party&Me: "WTF?"
Just have to comment on this...

1. He sounds like he's the one that's gay, considering he's critiquing your fashion.

2. Galka Warrior... Biggest race, damage dealing job... Overcompensation much?

3. No number three. I feel ashamed that I could only pick at those two points without thinking up a third one to make it a nice number D:

Just remembered something similar to the "Ghey raiser" account from earlier. When I first hit 25 as WHM, I managed to get into a large group of people who were farming the keys for Kazham access. One of the other nooblets was a Galka mage who exclaimed that he would never use earrings because men shouldn't wear them.

Thought of 2 more. It was a long time ago, but if the stories aren't completely right then they're as close as doesn't matter.

1) I don't know if this guy was a noob, stupid or just an *** looking to start trouble. Lvling BLM in GC. We gathered in Lower Jueno and everyone was at GC except our SAM. Didn't even leave Jueno yet.

ME: I hate this place.
TANK: Me too, but theres nowhere else to go
ME: I had my first pt in altep lastnight(yes i was pretty new then)...I like it there better, but hard to find pt where everyone has crystals
TANK: really?
TANK: I'll have to try that sometime cause I really hate this place

Meanwhile, the SAM finally got his *** on a choco

SAM: BLM(me) you shouldn't say stuff like that
ME: umm...what?
SAM: It's just rude to say you like one place better than another
ME: ok...I was just expressing an oppinion and last time I checked that was still legal....
SAM: Don't you stop to think you might be hurting someones feelings
ME: WHAT...by saying I liked altep?
SAM: yeah..that's just rude
TANK: She didn't say anything wrong
LDR: lay off man

Needless to say he kept up. Leader sent me a tell asking me not to leave, but I told him if this guy didn't shut up I was going to. After 5 mins of them trying to settle everything I warped and disbanded.

2) BLM lvl 50ish. Going to quicksand caves. Stupid SAM(yes another) gets aggro on way to camp by an ant. He decided to run through without sneak. Instead of dieing gracefully, he runs back to the 4 of us that haven't got to camp yet.

We tried to sleep it, but we got resisted cause it was too strong for us. So PLD vokes and beats it to keep hate. We decided to try fighting anyway, but didnt work.

PT: ESCAPE!!
So we gather around the WHM.
Amesbhe starts casting escape.
WHM: No sleep it
PT: We can't
WHM runs purposely out of Escape cast range.
WHM: Just Sleep it!!
PT: WE CAN'T!!
Amesbhe casts Escape.

All 4 of us zoned.

LDR(WHM's BF): What happened?
WHM: they escaped and left me to die
PLD: you moved out of range
WHM: you should've just slept it
RDM: we couldn't it had DoT spells on it
WHM: if we would've done it my way I'd still be alive
LDR: why did you guys get her killed?

PT fought for a while.

ME: If we don't stop and start partying I'm leaving.
WHM: Sorry if me losing xp is such an inconvenience to you
/disband

My first Blacklist.

That made me laugh really hard.

When I first started playing, I lvled my first job running back to my moghouse whenever my health got in the red. I didn't know I could kneel.

And no, I didn't read the f***ing manual, tyvm. Who reads manuals? Half the people who tell other people to read manuals have never read the manual, I guarantee you that.

So I'm in Dangruf Wadi a while ago when I happen upon a lone war hacking away at a few gobs. Now mind you I'm there to camp a set of Steam Armor when the following occurs.

War: (Hello!) english?
Me: yes.
War: Nice, can you help me out?

Now at this time I highlight the war and do a check and this is what I see...
War lvl 23 no sub
lvl 10 armor (scale)
with lvl 10 Great Sword...
Now I answer.

ME: Sure what can i do for you?
War: Can you help me get out of here? I've been lvl'n for 3 weeks here and I'm not getting anymore xp.
Me: sure, follow me..

Now I start leading him out when it dawned on me and I ask.

Me: How long you've been playing?
War: about a month almost
Me: Wow have you been to Dunes?
War: Dunes?
Me: yea that's where you go to lvl 10-20 and then Qufim for 20-24
War: Wow, this place must be huge. I've been solo just lvl'n around here, until I got lost zoning 2 gobs. Haven't found my way back to buy new armor.

Me: So You've been here since 10, lost? Wow that must of been a lonely 13 lvl's. Why didn't you bloodport back to Bastok your HP?

War: Since lvl 10 I've been here. Bloodport?
Me: Bloodport = you die, and get warped back to your HP
War: You do? Wow, you learn something new every day. Plus don't you lose all your XP?
Me: lol, your kidding, you have a Linkshell?
War: Huh, whats that? I thought War's can't cast spells..

Now in all fairness we were all Noobs once, and I have vowed to take this baby bird under my wing, but man that was the best escort I've done in like forever, I have stories for days this guy was soo fresh. I'm still laughing about it.

Here's one of my first noob experiences.

I had given up lvling thf and ended up switching to a job that has now consumed my life (WHM FTW). As a fresh lvl 12 whm with other lvl 12ish friends three of whom were terrified of the Dunes and downright ever refused to go. (luckly they eventually changed their minds) We partied together in La Thiene Plateau. Only one of us had a subjob so the party make up was me lvl 12 whm, a lvl 12 war/mnk complete with G. Axe, a lvl 13 war with a polearm, a lvl 14 war with a G. sword, and a lvl 15 thf. Yes we didn't know about the lvl spread at the time and the war/mnk was having too much fun partying with everyone.

So we're running about the plateau killing random things when we see the biggest sheep we've ever seen. And here's the conversation

Warspear>>>A Battering Ram...Let's kill it!
Warsword>>>YEAH!
Me>>> Uh....that might not be a good idea.
War/mnk>>>It'll eat us.
Thf>>>We can do it.
War/mnk>>>No seriously it'll eat us.

Warspear provokes the Battering Ram

Well to make a long story short Warspear and War/mnk both die followed swiftly by me. The thf and warsword both run in opposite directions only to get lost, hunted down, and eaten by the ram.

Today's lesson: If a war is using a spear and wants to randomly pick on very large monsters...disband or die.

Needless to say I didn't learn that lesson because a few lvls later found the same group minus the thf back in the Plateau being eaten by a wind elemental.

(as an update the warspear is now a lvl 60 pld who almost never cures himself and regularly loses hate to melees. I am a lvl 40 whm who is working on drg, while the war/mnk is a lvl 37 mnk/war. The warsword has yet to decide on a job so has hit lvl 20 and 30 on at least 4 different ones. Of all of us the pld is the only remaining noob of the group.)

Don't really know if it's noobish or not...
But I have a "problem" using Macros. I grew up with nes, snes, dreamcast,ps etc so I'm not used to Keyboards and therefore play with a controller/ gamepad, whatever you call it, and I don't like using macros since i'm not used to them.
And it's faster for me to hit my button two times and cure someone than to search for my macro for it...

But it happened often that I was whm in a pt and they complained about me not using macros since they don't know who I'm healing..... Why would you want to know anyway???

And even if there was another /whm helping out, Macros don't avoid both of us curing the same guy at the same time.... And even without a Macro I see who the other one is curing...
But because I'm asked to I use Macros, what takes a bit longer for me.... and then i get complaints about me taking to long to heal....
Is it really that Important for a Whm to have Cure-macros? I don't think so....

I'm a console gamer myself, always have been. Only PC game i play is FFXI. I use a 12button pad on my pc(similar to a PS2 controller) that makes it real easy to do macros quick. Has saved me loads of time. Not sure what type of controller ya use but if it has a ton of buttons, setting 2 up for each set of macro might be useful for ya. It helps me a lot and im mainly DD. I could imagine it being much more useful for mage jobs. Just thought I'd throw that in.

While I'm on the macro subject, I too used silly macros like /p Get over here! or my favorite /p <t> You're entering a world of pain... /ws "Combo" <t> /wait3 /p A world of pain. But as I started to see how flooded the chatlog got, i learned to use handy things like /echo and now keep my macros simple and efficient.

I ask him "Brian, who were you yelling at?" he points at his screen to the person he was yelling at.

It was the Five of Diamonds NPC in Windurst.

Had a Nice LOOOOOOONG talk about NPCs after that one :P

That's hilarious.

This isn't really a noob story but it appeared to be one at first. I'm doin' some fishing in Bastok Markets and I see some shouting along the lines of:
PLAYER: Can anyone help me??
PLAYER: I need a weapon
PLAYER: I'm lvl2 mnk where can I get a sword?

Now, being a mnk, this last statement demanded my assistance lol. After a few attempts at offering help and me nearly buying some cat baghnahks and finding the person to trade 'em, I get a tell from an LS friend saying "my friend's retarded huh? he's just on his mule having some fun" Wow, what a relief, I was sure this was a noob and tried my best to help lol... a dirty trick... but that "Im lvl2 mnk where can i get a sword?" line will always crack me up

I've been leveling COR with my wife on her PLD and we got a PT together in GC to try and get from 50-51.

We get a decent party setup: COR, PLD, WHM, BLM, RNG, BRD
So we're chaining along happily at the base of the steps, and we get a link pulled, no big deal. BLM sleeps the beetle as we kill the other, but then the WHM resting in the back gets a bat agro... so now we have 3 monsters attacking us, BRD sleeps the bat, and the beetle wakes up. Wife has all 3 monsters provoked at this point.

The 2 beetles are ripping up my wife and the WHM is low on MP (the first beetle would have been chain 4). We decide to cut our losses and ask the BLM to escape. The BLM responds "I haven't got that yet" >< so my wife dies as the first beetle is at 1%. RNG finishes it off with a shot. Shadowbinds the other beetle in hopes that we can run away (yeah right) WHM raises PLD, we quickly take down the DC bat that agro'd us and are trying to keep the beetle from killing us. We eventually Call for help as a 75 RDM passes by and he quickly dispatches it and heals us up.

So yeah, had a discussion with BLM about how important escape was and he agreed that he should have bought it. The party eventually comes to an end as we all hit 51/52 and the RNG asks for a D2... guess what else the BLM didn't have. Not going to blame him too much, as its 300k on my server... but at the same time he has another job at 60+

So moral is, even at 50 you can find noobs... please buy all your spells, they all have a use ><

[rant]

It's always the Dunes isn't it....apologies for the rant, this is probably the most annoyed I've been since I started playing so prepare for chapter 1 to 8 of War and Peace... >.<

Player names are substituted for their jobs, you'll know if you come across either of these two on Bismarck... >.<

Levelling BLM as a break for a few hours from PLD yesterday, I get a pt with one of my LS guys who fancied a break from the job he was doing, we both happen to have other jobs at 17 (BLM for me and THF for him) so we get a pt together and get started. We get a pt together after a few minutes. The pt setup wasn't textbook because there were very few people available but it was working fairly well to start with. There's 2 BLM's, 2 THF's, one WHM and a NIN. It's going well for the first couple of fights, then the 2nd BLM starts using Stonega with other mobs around, fortunately the other mobs are just outside the AoE. After the fight a couple of us ask him politely not to use it again but he ignores us. I've had my share of pt wipes from BLM's using Stonega in the Dunes (I refuse to macro it because there's too much risk with so many mobs around) so at this point I see the warning signs appearing but continue onwards as there weren't many other people available at the time and I really wanted to try and get at least a level up that day. Then we get agro from a goblin, no-one saw it sneaking up on us craftily. Whether or not it was hit with Stonega I couldn't say as I didn't see, but anyway BLM 2 eats dirt followed by WHM and tank, the rest of us scarper to safety at Selbina. With BLM 2 going down first I guess it could have been Stonega that caused the problem, but like I said, I didn't see it so I'm not 100% sure. So three down and three left standing, I'm down to about 10% HP left and there's no raise available at the time so we get chatting - it went a little like this:

ME: It'll probably be faster if you guys HP
BLM 2: Err....
ME: Where's your HP?
BLM 2: Bastok lol
Me: Bastok? Why didn't you set your HP somewhere here?
BLM 2: Why should I? I'm going to do the game without re-setting my HP lol
Me: Are you serious?
BLM 2: Yes
Me: That's a bad decision. Really bad.
THF: Agreed.
NIN: Totally agree.
WHM: You really need to reset your HP here while you level. You can get a tele out afterwards if you need one.
BLM 2: Whatever lol
THF: What if we don't get a raise?
BLM 2: I'll HP! I'll run back! lol
THF 2: My HP is Bastok too and I'm not setting my HP here either.
Me: >.<
THF: >.<
NIN. >.<
WHM: >.<

After 10 mins or so everyone gets a raise and when they're all recovered we start again. Roughly 15 mins downtime already.

First fight, very first one and THF goes off and pulls a Pugil, sweet, back on track again...until I notice that BLM 2 has gone AWOL, then I see this pop up on the chatlog, I know we're in trouble again:

BLM 2: Incoming Snipper!!

The rest of us are a bit surprised to say the least! After 30 secs half of us are KO'd again, BLM 2 goes down first rapidly followed by WHM, As a Galka I know I can handle a few hits more than the rest of the pt, even as a mage I can take it longer than the others, so I cast bind on it hopeing it'll take off after me when it wears off but it doesn't stick and I'm getting a beating now. A passing BLM/RDM passes at a very lucky time and drops a bunch of Cure II's on the remaining members and eventually the Pugil goes down followed by the snipper. Great, back to square 1. 3 members down again.

NIN: WTF were you doing?
THF 2: Why did you pull?!
THF 2: Are you trying to get us killed?
THF 2: You're a mage, not a puller!
THF 2: Don't pull again!
BLM 2: I pulled first, then you pulled a Pugil after I had the snipper so it's your fault
BLM 2: I had the snipper way before you had the Pugil
NIN: We had the Pugil for 30 secs before you pulled the snipper
NIN: I was watching you.
THF 2: You are not the puller, don't pull!

BLM 2 decides keeping himself quiet is the best course of action. At this point I asked my LS friend to ask him politely one last time to change his HP to Selbina or Valkurm Outpost once he gets a raise.

THF: Please change your HP when you get a raise
BLM 2: No, I've already said that's not happening
BLM 2: I need to keep my HP to Bastok so I can get warped back there to sell stuff
THF 2: Leave him alone, if he doesn't want to change his HP then it's up to him
THF 2: And I'm not changing my HP either

I couldn't believe what I was reading, the pt is going nowhere because two members can't be bothered to run for 30 seconds to reset their HP to benefit the pt, everytime they die we have 15 mins or so downtime instead of 30 secs to HP and come back. I've been exchanging tells with some of the other pt members and everyone agrees that BLM 2 has to go. Lead doesn't want to be the one to kick him though so I pull the short straw and volunteer to do it. Lead is passed to me. It's been 30 mins now and we've had got through 2 mobs with two partial pt wipeouts. It's just not working.

Me: BLM 2, This really is for the good of the pt
Me: We've had half a party wipe out twice now in almost no time
Me: You won't stop using Stonega even though we've asked
Me: You got us killed by pulling when we already had a mob
Me: And you refuse to reset your HP. That's all a bit n00bish.
BLM 2: I didn't kill us the first time!
Me: Sorry.
BLM 2: lol
THF 2: OMG
THF 2: **** you you idiot

BLM 2 is kicked from the pt, THF 2 disbands.

THF: What happened to THF 2?
NIN: This happened yesterday when I pt'd with her, she gets like this.
NIN: Someone said something she didn't like and she went all emo and disbanded.

I send a tell to THF 2

Me: It's cool, BLM 2 is gone now, you can come back
THF 2: It's you I'm pissed at
Me: Why? Cos I kicked a n00b that was getting us killed?
THF 2: You said that I was a n00b for not resetting my HP
THF 2: And I'm not a n00b
Me: Look, I was talking to BLM 2, not you, I don't have a problem with you, you're not trying to kill us.
Me: Resetting your HP would be really helpful though.

And it was the silent treatment after that.

/blist add BLM 2 and THF 2 - I later took THF 2 off the list, I have hope they'll see the light and get better....I don't see much hope for BLM 2 though.

God I hate the Dunes....sorry about the rant, I feel better now! >.<

I took some time off and gained fame and questions Aspir, Drain, Warp and Warp II as well as the Teleports. Yes, Warp II is expensive, but it's also totally questable and easy to obtain. Tell that black mage to take some time off from leveling and gain fame and do some other stuff--it'll be helpful later. And to any other Black Mages too.

Soooo off-topic. K, I was in the Dunes recently and it's funny, b/c there were too members that have been playing a while. Now, they spent much of their time telling me what old timers they were and things I needed to learn about the game. I was confused since I was a higher rank than they were and indicated that I had some other jobs. But someone called them a Noob when they pulled a whole bunch of mobs in a disorderly way and it appeared to hurt them. Not a really funny story though.

I spent a bunch of time when I first began playing being angry b/c I thought the weather checker was the most useless NPC ever.

Invited as BRD to a KRT party - I'm talking about the 50ish bat camp, not a bones merit party. Really cramped camp (zoneline behind the mages) so I spend 10 minutes trying to impress on everyone the importance of positioning, how I need the PLD facing away from the mages etc.

After 30 mediocre minutes, the leader comes up with this gem:

/p so lol wut do bards actually do neway?
