I'm new to the forum, and I'd like to add my information on my lil EmperorObsidian! So far, everything is going normal, even at Day 14.

Day 1: Still an egg, wants to get out. Watched over it twice. Basic Care.

Day 2: Still an egg, wants to get out. Watched over it twice. Basic Care.

Day 3: Still an egg, wants to get out. Watched over it twice. Basic Care.

Day 4: Hatching Day! It's a little yellow chick. Named it EmperorObsidian. Watched over it twice. Took it for a walk, got my first CS. It was happy to see me, wiggled it's tail. It wasn't hungry. Basic Care.

Day 5: It's a little yellow chick. Watched over it twice. Took it for a walk twice. It was happy to see me, wiggled it's tail. It wasn't hungry, nor full. Switched plan to a Take a Walk in Town.

Day 6: Watched over it twice. Finally fed it Gyshal Greens. Today, it was only happy to see me, but made no movement. After feeding, it was satisfied. Plan remained Take a Walk in Town.

Day 7: My chocobo has been crying at night, and I've recieved the white hankerchief (Theory: It's a CS that's supposed to happen on the 7th day.) I walked around, did my daily business, came back later (much later) and he took the Hankerchief. Today, it was happy to see me. Hungry nor full. Watched over it twice. Took it for a walk twice. Plan remained Take a Walk in Town.

Day 8: It was happy to see me. Watched over it twice. Today, I fed it Azouph Greens, and it seemed to like those a lot. Took it for a walk twice. Switched the plan to Listen to Music for only 1 day. It sleeps soundly now.

Day 9: It was happy to see me, made movement. Watched over it once today. Took it for a walk twice. Switched the plan to Rest (Risked). Neither Hungry nor Full.

Day 10: It was sleeping peacefully today. Watched over it twice since I couldn't walk it. Next plan was Take a Walk in Town. Nothing new has happened.

Day 11: Missed today. My Chocobo had fallen ill. Said Tokopekko Wildgrass would help fix it. Plan remains Take a Walk in Town.

Day 12: Checked it today. My Chocobo has recovered from the illness, though weakly chews on the Gyshal Greens. Watched over it once. Took it for a walk once. It was happy to see me, no movement. Plan remains Take a Walk in Town.

Day 13: It was happy to see me, made movement. Trainer said it had been waking up early, however. (This was new, but I have no idea what it means yet.) Watched over it twice. Took it for a walk twice. Fed it Gyshal Greens. Plan remains Take a Walk in Town.

Day 14: Still have yet to recieve a 2nd CS. Breakthrough! My Chocobo has been recieving plenty of affection, and seems extremely happy. It is in excellent condition now! It still remains with no definite personality. Instead of being happy to see me today, it says, "Your chocobo is in high spirits!" (Supposedly, this is the best mood a chocobo can be in.) Watched over it twice. Took it for a walk three times today. Neither hungry nor full. (Just noticed! My chocobo's eye color has changed from a brownish to a blackish. Perhaps preparing for teen years? Perhaps signifies a colored chocobo?) Plan remains Take a Walk in Town.

Day 15: (Hopefully, the start of the Teen Years.)

I'm now at Day 15, and I hope to update regularly, up until atleast the 30th day. If you have any questions or comments, ask me on here, or send me a /tell on the Titan server, under the name Molimo!

I like this thread.

My chocobo, so far, has no personality. But she is, LITERALLY depressed every other day. Yesterday she was depressed, the day before she was extremely perky. The day before that, she was depressed. The day before that she was "passing time here in the stables without a care."

I'm not sure why. I feed her a green, a paste, and a carrot everyday. This usually gets her to "almost full". I take her for about 2-3 walks. I've turned in the handkerchief. I didn't get it dirty though, I don't think. She regards me as a parent, and I have kept her on a walk, music, basic care plan. :P
When she isn't depressed, and I examine her, I usually get the message "Your chocobo looks very happy to see you."

I haven't put her on rest because of that chocobo death bug or whatever it is, lol.

What care plan do you have it on?

Today, 10 minutes before my 14. day, i decided to check on my care plan setup. Because i wan't to avoid basic care right now and want her to listen to music to increase her discernment and receptivity. When i clicked in my first care plan, the plan that will kick in on day 14, guess what i had? The whole list of care plan! Dig for treasure, act in group play, play with children, just everything! I was about to select "dig for treasure" (since i want a chocobo who's good in digging) but then i got the status report for day 14 automatically. The VCS trainer said that my chocobo has calmed down. When the CS was over and i switched back to the care plan menu... all the new plans were gone! *crys* ;_; And because i didn't selected one before the new day it's now on basic care...

I hope she'll be in high spirits again soon! And if someone is lucky enough to have a chocobo in high spirits right now please check if you have any new plans and change them before it's to late!

Day 14 btw... no growth update... still a lil yellow chick...

You are on to a winner watershine. I had the exact same thing.

Thanks Altana i'm not the only one who had that. I'm looking forward to more infos about how to get to that status perky + high spirits. Great Guid so far. Keep up the good work! :D

Hey, just wanted to let you guys know I got the story of the "impatient" choco the other day. Well I put my choco in basic care for one day after I recieved the story and on that days report my choco's status changed to "your choco is very patient making him good for carrying parcels". I read the descrpiton of the key item for the story and it said "a story (insert elvaan care takers name from sando) can read to your choco while under his care" this leads me to believe you do not read the story to your choco, rather the npc does while the choco is under his care. Just a thought. I mean my chocos personailty change to "patient" after recieving the "impatient choco" can't just be a coincidence. Not sure though.

Ok I can add something to this I mentioned in the other (unmaintained) thread:

Worm Paste:
This food adds a little energy to your chocobo.

The test:
Walk 3 times, will not let you walk a 4th but almost enough energy for one more walk
Feed a worm paste (energy bar goes up arround 5-10% (I can't tell exactly how much as I don't have a windower)
Can now walk one more time.

So this effect is CONFIRMED

One thing I noticed: When feeding only pastes the previous day I got in 3 walks with almost enough energy to get a 4th walk in. When I fed the chocobo nothing but greens and some vomp carrots, he got the same 3 walks but barely had enough energy left for 2 watch overs. Can someone else help me confirm this effect? and wether it's due to specific food combinations or the development stage of your chocobo?

I strongly believe you get the option read a story in next life phase.

Because of this

Quote:
Types of care

Watch over the Chocobo
Strengthens bonds of affection. Places very little stress on the chocobo.

Scold the Chocobo
Disciplines the chocobo. Slightly weakens bonds of affection.

Compete against others
Strengthens bonds of affection, but depletes stamina. Entertains a bored chocobo.

Go on a walk
Strengthens bonds of affection, but depletes stamina. The chocobo may meet someone on its travels!

Tell a Story
Strengthens bonds of affection and trains mental faculties. Telling various stories may have a beneficial effect for the chocobo.[/i]

The bold things we have now. the others we will get later.

This just reminded me of the spells list bug, sometimes if you've just zoned and you open up your spells list you can see all the spells you have from blm, whm, brd and nin etc, not that you can use them, but would be cool if you could (^,^).

Maybe just maybe you got the same thing.

I just found out an interesting bit of information. I had "perky" once but it downgraded to "parent" for 4 days. "Perky" returned after I spread out my chocobo care over 3 vanadiel days. Try spreading out the affection over several vanadiel days and see if you guys also experience better affinity. This would be analogous to NPC affection getting a single affinity boost for multiple visits.

Perky isnt an upgrade in affection really... or it is but it doesnt take the place of "Reguards you as a parent." Its just a temporary period of time when you choco is in high spirits.

I have received the Perky and in high spirits message twice so far and both times i fed it 3 Vegetable Pastes the day before, which is supposed to raise affection.

As far as getting new care plans when your choco is in high spirits... i have to think that this incident was just a bug, it really doesnt make any sense to have them all available as a chick as Watershine said... On the POL website the plans seem to come in three stages. The ones where you can alter your chocobos statistics a little, a good amount and a lot (depending on the size of the arrows). IT stands to reason that you would just get more care plans when your chick becomes an adolescent and then an adult. Its also odd that noone else has encountered this, and i dont see the combination of food or anything else being responsible for allowing the choco to have more care plan options...
#36 Sep 05 2006 at 9:50 AM Rating: Good
I can confirm that when your chocobo is in "high spirits" you don't get access to new care plans. My chocobo entered this state yesterday for the second time (first time was a couple of days ago but I didn't checked Care Plans) and I went to Care plans to see if more options were available. Only the usual Basic Care, Rest, Take a Walk and Listen to Music were on the list ; ;

Probably the full list was a glitch related to being to close to the next day on the care plan and the full schedule being reloaded.

I will keep an eye on the care plan options from now on anyway, just in case.

i already posted this in a different thread, but since this one is more popular ill post it here too. I have a problem with the current theories of how you obtain a chocobo whose color isnt yellow. it seems odd that SE would design the chocobo raising system so that the way you raise a chocobo would influence its color. also, concerning the matter that the black chocobos are breed for military applications, could this not mean that black chocobos have a greater chance of its personalitly and attributes reflecting the description of destrier? (more Strength/indurance, less receptiviy/discernment, and more of a rowdy personality) most people used the egg they obtained from the qeust, or one they bought in jeuno, however, i doubt too many people have hatched an egg from an ISNM, and since the other colors of chocobo (not yellow) are more rare, and these eggs are hard to obtain, it seems to me that the eggs from these ISNMs are the only ones that even have a chance of containing a chocobo that isnt yellow. there may be a % chance of getting a non-yellow chocobo from these eggs or it may be that all chocobo from these eggs are not-yellow, or it may even be that these eggs arent special at all, but it would seem a little odd to me that SE would make players spend 12k IS (in total), for the lv 60 cap(18k IS for the uncapped), for a battle that has 100% chance of dropping an egg that cannot be obtained any other way (except maybe chocobo mating), and have the egg be no different from an egg one could mearly buy from an NPC. so i was wondering, has anyone done one of these ISNMs, obtained the egg, and hatched it yet?

my chocobo regards me as its parent. I have gotten one cs while taking it for a walk and meeting a chocobo named Air (GAO GAO STEGASAURUS!!!). I have mainly had it on basic care plan, and check it once a day. It did the crying thing and I got the hankerchief and haven't been doing much with FFXI lately other then signing in and checking the chocobo and signing off. I feed it vegetable paste for food when its hungry. It doesn't have "much" of a personality according to sandy stables chocobo guy. All its stats are poor.

I also agree, for the most part, with what Siadon said here. I think unless you started with on e of the ISNM eggs (which i didnt, cause i dont have expansion yet...) than there isnt a good chance you'll get a colored choco on you first try. I think when breeding your chocobos, if there attributes are high enough, you can get a rare egg like the two ISNM eggs or even rarer eggs.

However, if this is not the case, then i still dont think its very likely that your going to be able to take a NPC bought egg and raise its attributes sooo much from the time its a chick to the time its and adolescent/adult that you will get a colored chocobo the first time... i think through good raising AND good breeding that you will be able to produce such colored birds and people getting there hopes up for colored birds will probably be disapointed there first time...

Also...

Taken from the POL website:
Quote:
Your Own Personal Chocobo
Colors
Aside from the familiar yellow, we will be introducing two new colors for chocobos. We invite you to try chocobo raising for yourself to discover what colors are available. Additional colors will make an appearance in subsequent version updates.

Appearance
The appearance of your chocobo will change depending on the attributes it acquires. These changes will affect a part of the chocobo, such as its beak or legs, rather than change its appearance entirely.

Attributes
Depending on the method used to raise your chocobo, its attributes will be slightly enhanced or decreased. For example, some chocobos may run a little faster, while others may be ridden for longer periods of time.

According to this, changing the attributes of the chocobo will only change parts of the appearance of your chocobo (beak, legs, etc.) and doesnt say to have any effect on the color or total appearance of you bird. Also only two new colors have been introduced so far and there happens to be only two eggs available from the ISNM's... coincidence? We shall see...

My egg is an ISNM egg (got it from Happy Caster ISNM); can't wait to see what it turns out to be!!

I also agree though; I really don't think that color/breed is going to be determined by where you raise it or even how you raise it. They have stated that when you breed chocobos, further bloodlines might display traits that the parents had but did not display. That doesn't sound random to me.

They've also stated that the rarer eggs will be harder to obtain. Whether they are talking about colors, races, or traits I can't say.

A little breakthrough today. I walked my chocobo Lance today 3 times, and watched over him 8 times, leaving him with 0 energy (not even a sliver of energy bar showing). Assuming that the energy drain of a particular activity is the same no matter what, then we can determine that a short walk takes 8 times as much energy as being watched. 1 Walk (W) = 8 watch-overs (w), so 3W+8w= 32w. If 1w = 1Stamina point, then on Day 12, Lance has 32 stamina points. If you have been keeping a daily record of your birds activities, and using every bit of energy you had available, then using this you can actually see the progression of your chocobo's energy as it grows. I should note that yesterday, he had only enough energy for 3 walks and 7 watches and yet he had a sliver of health still visible, so whatever unit energy is measured in is smaller than the amount of one watch-over.

Also, Lance re-entered his perky phase today. I examined my journal and noted that both times he had become perky, he had been fed at least two San d'Orian Carrots, which he loves (he gobbles them up in one bite, unlike the other foods I've fed him). The day before he came out of it the first time, I only fed him one. The only proof against that is that there were only two other occasions where he was fed two or more carrots, but on the subsequent days, he was suffering, then recovering from his loneliness (the White Handkerchief incident). I'll test this theory further by keeping his diet steady, and I'll see if I can keep it going. If I'm right, the only thing that should stop it will be illness or some other status overridding it.

[EDIT:] If anyone wants to see my journal, it's at http://crowndefender.livejournal.com/ It has all my notes about my experiences there.

Day 15... still a lil chick...

She's perky and in high spirits already again. But... no new care plan options! ;(

So i called a GM and asked him if that could be a bug or not. Well, he couldn't tell me... GM said we should check for chocobo raising news on playonline.com. Also, if we think that this is a bug, we should write a bug-repot-mail to SE.

One more sleepless night... day 16. tomorrow... i want to see her grow up finally. >_>

It just occured to me while I was looking at this. SE stated that chocobo colors weren't going to be introduced until the next update.

I wonder if we won't see those teen chocobos until then. They seem to have some sort of hint to color.

Yeah i know... i feel like they made this chick stage a little too long... the chocobo still has to go through adolescent and adult stage before it is retired from the raising process.

3 Days of being an egg and
12 Days (at least) of being a chick with limited care options...

That leaves 15 Days to split between adolescent and adult (assuming 1 month = 30 days = total raising time)

Be better if they made more days during the time in the chocobos life where you could do more stuff with it... if they split the rest of the days it would be

8 Days adolescent
7 Days adult... much less than the chick stage.

Im pretty sure that they said they released two new colors when they implemented chocobo raising and that other colors would follow... but i could be wrong, i dont have time to check.

Also theres no way they could hold off the teen chocobos that long because they have to be adult in one months time from when you started raising them... that would be a major bug of sorts...

Today my chocobo's Endurance briefly changed from poor to substandard.

In the Daily Report, after getting the results of yesterday (walk in town and that he "seems to have calmed down") his 4 stats were poor, substandard, poor, poor. Now I've been feeding him carrot pastes since day 2 (first day fed him 2 veggie pastes, then got some vomp carrots harvested). All but 2 of the days I've had him do "Walk in Town", and he's been reported to be, for almost a week, "a very patient chocobo, making him ideal for carrying packages".

But, after todays update, he was quite hungry (instead of starving), so fed him another carrot paste. That took him to completely full (seems about every other day I feed him 2 to fill him, needing only 1 on the opposite days), but also his endurance changed back to poor in the subsequent "check on your chocobo's abilities" results.

I was initially very excited by this, as I am aiming for Endurance (I would like my chocobo to be able to stay out longer once I call him). That's why I had been feeding him carrot paste (made from Vomp carrots, which supposedly help develop physical traits), and having him go on walks in town most days.

It's really disappointing to see such a brief change, though. And to be honest, I don't know if substandard is higher or lower than poor (though my feeding habits and daily plan choices lead me to believe it is, indeed, a step up).

But no matter, it's gone now, and back to poor endurance.

And this phase is going on a little too long, really. If 30 days is the time we can start calling them (and it would appear to stop "raising" them), half of it has been rather dull, to be honest.

I'm thinking maybe it will be 30 days total til it's an adult.

3 days til it hatches, leaving 27 days for chick and adolescent.

13 days as a chick
13 days as an adolescent
last day it turns into an adult.

Then, at this point, you can continue caring for it (possibly improving or changing stats?) or you can retire it.

3 days til it hatches, leaving 27 days for chick and adolescent.

13 days as a chick
13 days as an adolescent
last day it turns into an adult.

Then, at this point, you can continue caring for it (possibly improving or changing stats?) or you can retire it.

This is what I'm thinking too, but more like ...

4 days as an egg, 16 as a chick, and 10 as an adolescent...

then you have a full grown chocobo and the stats probably won't change much, because at that point you'll know what type of breed you have.

(kinda thinking like 1-12/13 you're a kid, then to about 20 = adult in human terms~ approx. 60% kid time ><)
