Well the colors do stand out on that link but...LOL too bad the actual chicks at day 19 don't really look like that! In reality they are all yellow with just a small tip of the feathers showing any other color. I hope no Newbee sees that link and really expects to get a chick on day 19 that looks like that touched up pic (or anything close to it):-)

Replace the .dat files if your on a PC with those on that download link, and they sure as hell will look like that joo fool.

So...You are saying for those who don't like just having the colored tips of the feathers on their adolecence chicks (like FFXI intends for it to look), they can download the ALTERED Files so that the chicks will appear on their own screen the way they appear in the ALTERED pics that link leads to. Of course No one else will see their chicks this way and it's a violation of the game to alter the files....hum I still stand by my statement that I hope no Newbee thinks this is what his chick is supposed to look like. But to give you credit, I fully understand where you are coming from. (joo fool?) LOL Lets let this one be :-)

Hi,
Can someone point me to a thread that has a list of NPC names associated with the Diligent bird quest?
I'm hoping there is one, and that not all the NPC's are involved, just a handful. Thanks.

Who else is gonna see your adolescent chick other than you?! It's gonna be the same color when it hits adult anyways. There are many people that get confused by the color of the tips, especially the white tips which some think are gray and get the wrong idea that they have a black bird.

I'm just trying to save them 10 days and possibly some $$$ they might be wasting on carrots.

Also, no, it is not a violation because it's not interfering with gameplay or making you gain an advantage over another, your merely not getting confused with a color, which you already have if you gain the colored bird, the mod is just a sure way of knowing.

Lets just save me the typing space from embarassing you from your first statement. No comebacks please, you already made yourself look like an ***.

I gave my choco a parasitic worm today to see if it would zap Gallop that my choco was born with.

The choco had just gained Average in Discernment today but after feeding the worm, Discernment was back to Bit Deficient.

I think that it may make abilities go but if you are doing a "born with" ability I would recommend trying it before getting any raises in Stats.

.dat transfers aren't illegal, just FYI.

My bird grew up on Friday. ^_^

Here's my bird with the big plumage and big claws. Took the picture just outside the Temple of Uggalepih so y'all can gauge how green it is. ^_^

I stand corrected about the .dat change, I understand it would only change how a persons screen displays something :-) But FFXI is very strict (overly so) on much of this stuff.

I just recently quested my egg and got started on chocobo raising. I thought it was a bit overwhelming but after seeing this thread and its 40 pages.. now I'm feeling even more overwhelmed! lol
My egg just recently hatched and I took the chic for its first walk yesterday. We found a lost chocobo and now I am supposed to find its owner. I've looked but I haven't seen anything about this so far, (although I very easily could have missed it with all this information that's here on these many pages!).
I would really appreciate any help on this!
Thanks =)

This has been touched on but I don't think (at least I can't recall) it being discussed here in great detail. I found a good walk through somewhere when I did it the first time but don't remember where. Actually it's kind of simple. After returning the lost baby chick keep taking your chick for walks each day when you care for it and you will occasionally get hints as to who the lost chick may belong to. Something like it's name starts with "A", or its a hume, or it's a male, or he works in an armor store. Something along those lines. After you get hints, I think it's about 3 of them, spread out over a few walks and several real life days you can go looking for the NPC who lost the chick. I used my Ranger Job's Wide scan which made it easier. It seems to me it could be any NPC who meets the hints (caution, sometimes more than one may meet the hints) located in the area the cocobo stables you are raising your chick in. For instance if you are raising it in Bastok then the NPC can be anywhere in the Bastok Mine district. When you think you have found the correct NPC click onto it and see if you can return the bird. Then go back to Stables and talk with trainer to see if you correctly finished the quest and get the new story that gives you "Treasure Hunter". You will still need to read the story and have high enough Discernability to learn it to actually get the ability. If by chance you fail (try to return it to the wrong NPC for instance) you will usually find another lost chick soon and be able to try again! Also, if you forget what some of your hints were you can talk with the little boy who gives you information on chocobos inside the stable and he will repeat any hint's you should be working on for you. I wrote all this from memory so others may have more to contribute but basically this should get you through it with little trouble. GOOD LUCK :-) BTW anyone know if any fame is gained by doing this or just the story? I don't seem to remember hearing the sounds associated with gaining fame but I sometimes have my sound turned off when in town. Just curious.

I didn't read the whole thread as it's a bit too long for me, but I discovered something today that I hadn't heard about before.

On day 65, if you haven't named your chocobo yet, it gets named for you, and it gets one name, like the NPC chocobos you see running around instead of 2 when you choose your own.

Mine got named Baron. I like that it has one name, but I'm a little bitter because my chocobo is female, and that to me is a male name.

FFXI put out the information from the start about needing to name it or it would later be named for you, the Trainer even mentions the need for a name when your Egg hatches. You have to name it before you can get into Kamp Kewh also I think, plus needing a name to get breeder cards. I never knew anyone who waited as long as you without naming their bird and it's new information to me at least that waiting that long will get you a bird with only one name!!!
I did notice that the NPC's in the cut scenes only had one name for their bird! Thanks for the new information!

One of my chicks got named too. "Friend" was their choice. I was ticked but I had never read any warning that they would name it for me without telling me it was last chance time!

You can get stats up after day 64 but it is very very hard and not very likely.

You might get micro increments though. Who knows. That just might be the little bit that will win you the big race!

You can get colored chocobos on the first egg... My LS Leader's daughter did it and all she did was feed it gyashl greens. Seems completely random to me.

Pikko has it on her Legendary Threads and Stickies post, which is stickied.

This is a great thread though, glad to see it up top where it belongs.

The most reliable method of getting the color of choco you want is to get two cards to breed for it.

You can also get a chick born with an ability if the parents have them. That is pretty much random though. If you don't want a certain ability you might want to make sure the parents don't have it.

Susan is 100% correct on the above information about color. However I disagree with getting the abilities being all that random. They are random for a fact, but not so much so. And if the Parents have more than one ability then which one you get could be anyone's guess as it seems that you only inherit one ability, and if you are picky about what you want don't chance it as Sunsan has said. But if both parents only have one ability (say each has Gallop) then it's a VERY GOOD bet you will get a chick born with that particular ability. Also it's not a proven fact, and I've read others who have posted here claiming that the type of honeymoon has no affect on inheriting abilities but I disagree with them on that. They really have no proof other than a failed attempt of their own to go by but I've succesfully gotten both color and Abilities often enough from choosing "Sports" Honeymoon to get males color or abilities and choosing "Juneo Tour" to get the Females color or abilities. Of course just like their claiming that their failure with this ment it didn't work this way my claiming it really does because of my (maybe 10) successes doesn't mean I'm absolutely correct either but I feel I am correct until it's proven absolutely one way or the other by time. More posting of the failure or success of others in this area sure would help determine the percentages of the success we can expect with this. Remember though as Susan pointed out, if you want abilities other than the ones the parents have don't breed with chocobos that have abilities you don't want!

Outlawbider you are right that it is not totally random. The dating plan has a definate effect on which ability your egg will get if it gets one.

So has anyone found out how the choco dyes work? And what is this Egg Hat that gives digging bonus?
