The big Chocobo researchFollow

#177 Sep 09 2006 at 6:16 PM Rating: Decent
Got a little bored updating my log after doing the same thing day after day and nothing occuring but looks like things finally paid off!

Sky Comet is now an adolescent with white tail feathers.

I searched over the new commands and set her to carry some packages and excercise in a group (will raise endurance and strength). This will intiate after 2 days when he's done with the taking in walk plan.

Updated information:

Chocobo name: Sky Comet
Sex: Female
Stage of life: Adolescent
Current color: Yellow with white tail feathers
Current Diet: San d'Orian Carrots

Current stats:

Strength - Poor
Enudrance - Poor
Discernment - Poor
Receptivity - Poor

Regarding affection: parental figure

Personality: None

Weather preference: None

Abilities None: None

Basically, I've been doing the same thing as I have been for the past week or so. Check chocobo, feed till full, take on a walk 3 times, check again, and then leave.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/Kaggypants/Chocobo/Chocobo1.jpg

So I figured it was time to change her diet since she was no longer a chick. I fed her some sandorian carrots (increase endurance and strength) and she really liked them.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/Kaggypants/Chocobo/Chocobo2.jpg

Then I took her on a walk (long) and ran into some snobby hume chocobo raisers.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/Kaggypants/Chocobo/Chocobo3.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/Kaggypants/Chocobo/Chocobo4.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/Kaggypants/Chocobo/Chocobo5.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/Kaggypants/Chocobo/Chocobo6.jpg

They challenged me to a race. I wasn't exactly sure how to accept the challenge so I clicked another long walk which didn't seem to work. Then I noticed the compete with others and it did the trick:

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/Kaggypants/Chocobo/Chocobo7.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/Kaggypants/Chocobo/Chocobo8.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/Kaggypants/Chocobo/Chocobo9.jpg

We tied but I bet my chcoobo would've won if I hadn't done that second walk before which reduced her energy a lot.

By then my chocobo's energy was fully drained so I wasn't able to do anything. Can't wait to get back here tomorrow and try the other options!

Mine grew up! yay!

Name: FireMelodie
Sex:Female
Age: 19 Days
Stage: Adolescent
Colour (current): Yellow with white tips
Area: Sandy
Egg type: Bit warm *quested*

Stats: All poor

Personality: Military ^^ yay!
Affection: regards as a parent

My usual care *for chick* short walk x 3 and watch over x 8-9
Care schedule *for chick* normally walk through town 2-3 days a time and listen to music 1-2 days a time

For Adolescent my care was 2 regular walks, a story and 2 watches.

With the military personality i'm hoping mine has at least some traits of a Destrier so i will focus on strength and so on, i know some people stats have reached substandard, did you focus completely on one aspect or did you vary but mainly keep to that one aspect?

Day 19 - Teenager

Fed: 3 vomp carrots (got one more days worth of feed - hope harvest soon!)
Took on: regular walk, met the 3 npc
Competed against others - won!
Told the story from Key item

(No energy to do anything other then watch over it (well I didn't try to scold it, cause it did win after all).

Was able to watch over it: 2x then no energy

He's in high spirits.Excellent care, bla blah. Other stats all poor.

His color is yellow, looks like white tips. He raced against a bird with black tips.

Set him on delivery packages.

Name: Night Illusion
Age: 19 Days
Color: Yellow with Blue/Greyish looking tip feathers. (if the racing chocobo for competitions is black, then for sure mine is Blue)

Usual Feed: Vomp Carrots with a mix of 2 parasite worms and a couple pastes in the 2-3 week span.

All status weak: (will probably start changing tomorrow)

Excelent Condition: Ideal for carring Packages: Patient.

Current Plans:
0: Exercise Alone
1: Delivery Packages
2: Forgot lol
3: Exercise in a group.

Now it shall get annoying, imo, on how many schedules will start.

I took it for 2 medium walks after an elixir fill up: One was being challenged. I eventually accepted the challenge and lost by a chocobo length. I probably should have waited a little more.

Checked on chocobo. It finally grew up. White tips, yellow chocobo. I won the race against the chocobo with black tips. I thought it was a tie, but my chocobo barely made it. The chocobo is no longer extremely happy nor in high spirits. It still regards me as his parent. I changed the take a walk to carrying packages under one of my plans. The others, I left alone. Don't want to drain too much affection. Anyone have an idea of how much the payment will be from carrying packages?

Hello! My chocobo became an adolescent today, so I thought I'd add my info for reference:

Name: Merciless Mister
Sex:Male
Age: 19 Days
Stage: Adolescent
Colour (current): Yellow with black tips
Area: Bastok
Egg type: Bit warm (bought)

Stats: Poor

Personality: Military
Affection: Parent

My care for it as a chick was all walks with a few musics thrown in. He rested two days and was under the coma glitch, but woke up when I got the handkerchief. I fed him mostly carrot paste and sandy carrots, but once he got a worm paste, and once a Parasite Worm ( on a 'high spirits' day.) He also got one of the mental carrot things, and Sharug Greens. I think I gave him vegetable paste once and he didn't like it.

I'd like to add that I almost always left him with no less than 1/4 stamina each day. He has not become sick and went into 'high spirits' mode three times. I wondered if maybe they're more likely to become sick when tired.

(MademoiselleMorte - I stole your form! Thank you. :o )

Hi! Quick question....

I constantly take my choco (AutumnWind) on walks, and while we're out, we keep getting cutscenes with the stablemaster from Windurst. But she commonly says "Keep up the good work with Spring!" - Which is the name of the friend I made with AutumnWind, not my actual choco. Is this an error? I've received four cutscenes since getting my story from the stablemaster, and am concerned I might be missing something.

Anyone else having that problem?

Dont know why I just thought of this, but has anyone noticed a change in What weather your chocobo prefers(sp...)?

Linkshell leader was just talking about doing 5-1 again pretty soon, and I got to thinking about Xarcabard, Ule.Range, and Beaucidine. As far as I know, these are the only Mainland non-dungeon area's that we can not ride Chocobo's in. I dont remember where I read it, but I think there was something about the most Chocobo hating the cold(Ignoring the fact that the only way to said areas is through a dungeon).

Since we will be able to call our chocobo's, I'm sort of wondering if all of them will be able to be used in these areas, or if a preference(sp again) to cold weather will be needed. Weather seems to be the one condition that people have no discussed to often.

My own chocobo has had no stat increases or personality changes, and no weather changes.

Honestly dont know if this part will even be added yet, but I was just wondering about this.

I posted this in another choco thread, and it seems like everyone else's has grown up a bit also^^

Day -18 and -19

My choco woke up from it's coma on one of these days, starving, and in the next stage of size... teenager? He's starting to change colour, still mostly yellow, but blue/grey around the edge of his tail and head feathers (I'm hoping for a black choco :D). He's slightly ill as well, and paste fills him only about half as well as it did when he was a chick. I'm gonna wait till he's feeling better to take him for a walk in LTP, although I may try telling him a story while he's sick to make him feel better. :3

I can now Take him for a Walk (regular) (to La Theine Plateau since I'm in San d'Oria) Tell him a Story, and Scold him all in the Care for Your Choco menu. In the Set up Care Plan the full list of things I can ask them to do with my choco is available (as listed in the POL Viewer before you log into the game).

Hope this helps anyone doing "research" on how to raise and get certain results.

I'm just so happy he isn't in a coma anymore!!! :3

I agree that the lighting is crap but I am pretty sure mine is yellow with whitish grey tips.

So I assume yellow.

The trainer did say to "look at that color"

I got excited and then saw her.

All stats are poor, no personality but lots of energy. I'm the parent.

I got all the new options with the LeThiene trainers CS

Race, carry packages etc

I got a new message after feeding my chocobo today. Normally I'll feed him and it says "She swallows it in one Gulp!". This time it said that, and then the choco guy said "I'm sure this animal will turn into a great Chocobo".

Anyone else gotten that before?

Ive been getting the "i hope we can turn this animal into a fine chocobo" every time i feed my little chick. I'm on day 15 right now, so not at the adolecent phase like most of you are.

I started out with Veggie paste - and only veggie paste - for the first 15 days. Recently, for pretty much no reason at all, i switched to A. Greens, and now i get "...gobbles it up in one bite" as opposed to "eats the ____"

Im not sure which is better, or whether me changing things may have set a new course, but oh well. Its just odd to me that i get the "i hope we can make this animal into a fine chocobo" every time i feed her.

4 more days 'til adolecense. With my luck, i'll get a Black, emo chocobo that will sit in my mog house listening to Linkin Park while painting his claws with black nail polish... "You did this to me mom!" he'll say "You should have never switched my food as a baby!"

Then he'll ask me to drive him to the mall >.<

So far my Chocobo is just day 10. He became 'Perky' today as well. and Finally started regarding me as a parent yesterday.

He hasn't gotten sick once yet and I've only really been feeding him Gysahl Greens with occasional Sandy Carrots. I have bought 1 veggie paste and one carrot paste to him, but nothing special. I usually leave him with about 25% energy at the end of a day.

Not sure if this is anything useful to anyone, but I hear a lot of people saying they have sick chocobos, and have no idea if it has to do with wearing them out or something.

I noticed the same thing. My choco hasn't been sick, and I leave him with some energy. They have to have some energy left for their day plans, perhaps?

I would like to report something here.
<Choco Report>
Name; Comet Challanger.

I started out chocobo raising, as giddy as a school girl.
I went over to Ru'Lude gardens (oh, the lag), and bought myself an egg. Slightly warm, hardboiled. xD
Anyway. I went onwards to windurst (my home) and traded the egg over.
Soon enough, I was staring at my egg.
4 Days later, after retuning each day and watching over it, it had hatched and I was looking at my cute little baby chocobo.
I took it for a walk, and got the first cut-scene first time.
I took her for more walks and watched over her each time I took her for a walk.
A few days passed, and I continued my routine of watching over and walking (three times each), while giving her the food she needed and rotating her care program to give her the things she needed and a good variation of things to do. So, every two days the activity will change for her.
She has just hit about day 17~18 and she is now adolescent.
I've noticed those patches of black feathers on her, and I'm wondering if she'll be able to turn into a black chocobo?
I sure hope so, but then again looking at reports from people delving into the models it seems like there is no normal yellow chocobo adolescent.
On top of this, the Black chocobo is a San'dorian variant. While raising in Windurst, this would be a rare thing to occur. Seems strange to me if it does grow up to be black.
It would be nice, but it'd be strange...
I'll have to wait and se what happens.
Oh, another thing.
I recieved a cut-scene on her first "Walk (Normal)" just like I did on her first "Walk (Short)", perhaps suggesting that these CS's are really love-based.
Anyway, there are those three guys raising the "Ultimate" chocobo which is balanced in all areas.
This gave me the option to allow my chocobo to compete, and when it did I narrowly beat their chocobo.
I gained nothing from this, except the satisfaction of seeing the look on their faces, a little STR for my chocobo, and a new cut-scene of chocobo racing around the fountain in windurst.
Perhaps some more cut-scenes will follow, I sure hope so.
Possibly you'll see them throughout the training phase, and gain some ultimate chocobo item after defeating them for the final time.
They act all pro, "lolx u nub, u no noffink abut chobo raisng lolx., i r training 4 strnth hez traing 4 intelignc n hez traing 4 sped" but they ... they just suck.
I would like to see some kind of Face-off between Pulonono's chocobo, my chocobo, and their's.
CometChallanger would win any day. ;D

[Edit] And of course, there were several new options for the care scedule and things.
I can now show her off for a few gil (a bit a gander), scold her, race her, take her on longer walks, play with chocobos, play with children, train alone, train in a group, deliver packages, and ... one more I forgot that is acts like the package delivery. [/Edit]

I just want to point out somthing, has anyone actually listened to the guy/girl that tells you about chocobos?, one thinghe says is

"The chocobo's temperament is determined when it is just a chick. its temperament and atributes somhow related, but im not really sure how."

This leads me to beleve that the temper isnt for color but for your chocobos abilities itself, like some will grow faster for that chocobo than normally.

He also says

"ive herd that by listening to a story the chocobo might even realize it has powers it never noticed before. (ive never seen it happen though,...)

and

"Your chocobo learns abilities by listening to your words, so if you know of any story you think might intrist the animal you should tell it often"

This says abilities are most likly learned by the story book we got and not just for affection

one more thing, he says Excercising alone will significantly improve strength and taking a walk will only increce strength and endurance but not significantly, but on the list they are both marked with a 1, just wondering why

GhostWing Update: Day 20

Couple of new things today.

Just after the update I was told my choc was bored and restless and needed something to do, and that racing against other chocobos would sort him out. The animation for this ailment is pretty cool, he stamps his feet, scratches the floor and tosses his head about. He also 'ate weakly' today, probably a side effect from the boredom. (interestingly though: when I fed him an Azouph Green it said: I hope he gets well soon, but didn't for Vomp Carrots, why? I dont know)

Take a Walk (regular):

This resulted in me meeting up with Hantileon from the Sandorian Stables in Tahrongi Canyon, GhostWing made friends with Air much like the first time I met Spring. That's two choco-friends he has now. I wonder if he will teach me the stories if I meet him another two times?

Other than this nothing much happened, but I did win the race today hehe!

I checked ol swift this morning before work, and he did in fact get older, his feathers looked grey to me but i only had a limited care time because of work. Looking at the .dat mine pic, it is unlikely that almost everyone got the SAME kind of adolescent, the lighting or resolution must make it hazy. AND remember, rounseys (sp?) arent the only yellow chocos. in ALL of the breed descriptions it says that colors are rare: "on rare occasions, a red courser will be born" ect. So if your choco is yellow as an adult, that doesnt mean it isnt the breed you want. I am hoping for a courser or a destrier, aand all my stats are still poor... I'll look closer at it after my schedule cools down a bit.

I hate being too poor to afford things like chocolixers... I felt i didnt get enough time with my newly teen-aged choco.

If anyone is on midgardsormr and can make chocolixers, it'd be nice if i could have a discount... ^_^;

Pretty much the same happened to me as for Shenanigans today. My choco is also bored, so took her racing and she won! Didn't expect that since I haven't worked on her strength or endurance much. Maybe it's just random since it's a cutscene. :)

Hopefully the chocobo will feel better tomorrow!

She got the perky status again.

Took a walk in Tahrongi, but didn't get any cutscene.

She was starving today (I guess since I've tried to do as many things as possible XD Low stamina bar), and fed her 2 Zegham Carrots and 1 Azouph green that I had lying around.

All stats still poor, and personality is Enigmatic. No change in weather preference of anything.

Should get the "play with children" cutscene tomorrow, and I'll be ready with my camera (AKA screenshot program)!
