I would suggest you check the settings on your firewall then, because its very unlikely for anything to go out from my pc without me knowing it.
FTFY (Wow I've always wanted to get to use that)
I just don't like to see people being overly confident. If a program tricks your firewall into thinking that it's something that you have allowed it will let it right through. Also people need to remember that a virus program only catches the stuff it knows. When we get those virus updates protecting us from this virus or that virus it's often because someone else was infected by that virus and now the AV software makers are aware of it and can add detection for it. The same is true of spyware. Depending on your software, you may get occasional notices about a program trying to access something that it shouldn't or that a program is behaving suspiciously. Until the spyware software knows about new a key logger or something along those lines, those little warnings or questions are all you have.
I don't want to sound like I am telling people that we are all doomed and that you will get infected by a virus/spyware no matter what you do. Just trying to point out that we can never truly be 100% secure and this is why SE needs to (and should have done so about 5 years ago) update their procedures for dealing with these matters.
