Note, in the form the OP showed us,it says "Under Penalty of Perjury under the laws of (Nation of your Residence)"

This means, that if you get caught lying, you will be prosecuted for Perjury. Last I heard, this isn't exactly a joke, and when you go to a Notary of the Public, and lie, there are serious penalties for doing so.

In the United States, committing Perjury can land one in Prison for up to Five Years, as it says in Wiki

Serious business.

Rofl. Yeah, SE is actually going to "investigate", find out you sold the account, and spend thousands of dollars taking you to court.

Eh, we're not talking a civil case here.

Perjury is a *crime*. If your home gets burglarized IRL, *you* don't spend the money to take the thief to court; the State/Province/Whatever does that. (Edit: Well, eh, before anyone nitpicks on this, you kinda do through paying taxes, but I mean directly...)

When you commit Perjury (thus committing a crime), and SE catches onto this, they will notify the police in the state where you live and press charges. They don't pay a penny; the state does, when they pursue the criminal charges against you.

All SE does, is send whatever evidence they have (Payment records, someone else contesting your claims, etc) to the law enforcement authorities involved. It is also interesting to note, that if someone BUYS an account and gets hacked, and tries to use this form to recover their account, is committing perjury too, because they are testifying that they are the original creator of the account, which they are NOT.

So, lesson #2: If you bought your account via Ebay and get hacked, Don't use this form to recover it! If you do, you are committing Perjury here as well.

Some people might go "Its just an MMO, the police don't care about -that-" need to stop and think that Perjury in of itself has nothing to do with MMORPGs, the Internet, or whatever. *Any* Document that says "Under Penalty of Perjury" and was notarized can land you in jail if you get caught lying, regardless of what it is for. It is all treated the same, be it a testimony in court, or something like this, or *anything* that says "Under Penalty of Perjury" that you took to a Notary of the Public.
