Well it affected also non NA players using NA eddtion on PC.

So... I was banned coz my card was declined, even tho i had money and its valid till 2012. Now.. from what i read all over here i have like 3 solutions:
1) find some1 with PS2 or Xbox and ask him to put my card info and repeat that thing each month coz my card isnt VbV and i assume if SE kick me this time it will each following month. (and i have known 0 ppl here who play FF on other platform then PC)
2) I can call Se and they will update my info, hmm call USA, wait on hold for not know how long, and then repeat it each month.
3) Go to 1 of 2 banks in whole country (nice we have 2 on official visa sie in france there is no bank supporting this system) make new account pay for new card pay for account each month only to play FFXI.

hmmm... first time a big international company not want my money, first time it prevent me from spending them for now and for their future products.
hmmm.... the world is going to end.
I am vewy vewy scared.

Kellinda has had her account affected by this and from what I heard in chat logs last night, the CSR that she spoke to had her on the phone for 15 minutes as he helped her change her information. Are you guys getting this "they won't change it" info firsthand through your OWN calls or from forums?

Edited, Aug 4th 2009 6:16am by Pikko

Not trying to sound like an a$$ or anything, but could Kelinda have gotten service unavailable to the rest of us? I mean lets face it, if you call SE CS and say: "I am an Admin from an SE Premiere site and need help." as opposed to saying, "I am joe nobody and need help." aren't you likely to get a different response?

I'm not panicking. Pissed, insulted, and irritated that once again SE solves a problem by shoving the solution down our throats, making us jump through hoops to play.

It's more like I'm pissed that I've had to go though all the headache of changing banks because of what SE's CS drones told me only to find out I may not have had to in the first place.

If I were just starting FFXI I would have quit in a heartbeat. As it is I will never EVER buy another online SE product a again. They treat their customers like garbage.

With all respect, why is this a sticky? The information here is no different from what's in any of the 50 other threads on this topic, except there's not as much here (in terms of ******** or information) and it's kicked off by a quasi-misstatement of the policy that I actually trusted before I read the whole thread ("oh! I can just call, cool"). This just misled me into thinking that the Allakhazam team had communicated with SE and gotten some special information, or even lobbied for some change. Please don't get me wrong and rate me down -- I look forward to seeing an informative sticky in the future, but all of these posts are wasting our time until someone has some new or clearer information.

Call the Info Center and they will assist you in changing your payment information. Unfortunately, if you wish to change your payment method online, you will need to have a credit card that is actively enrolled in one of these programs.

This is incorrect. They will tell you you need to get a new card. They cannot change your payment information.

I have been on the phone with customer service myself. They are *not* taking credit card numbers over the phone or re-activating accounts. They are taking names and they'll call us back at some later time to discuss the issue (after the moogle event is over on the 17th or the next ice-age comes I would guess).

In the mean time, we're expected to wait. (well time for me to go level my Scrapper in CoX, anyone wanna bet i'll get her to lv 50 before I get a call from SE?)

Also, this requirement is for NA PC users only. This does not increase "your" security, it prevents chargebacks to SE when they inevitably ***** up.

Huh? Wait, Does this mean I can change my card information thru my Ps2 when I find where I packed it? Crap! ::starts rummaging thru all the boxes in the apartment madly::

~Makai

P.S. This is why I play more than one game and from different companies of different genres. (and if you read my post under the main page 3d secure is not secure and doesn't prevent charge-backs to the merchants either. Its something Master card has been forcing on merchants.)

yep I am in the same boat, none of my card issuers are part of securecard or verifiedy by visa, and SE/POL is really not doing anything about it. They screwed their system up and can't fix it. Twice now I have had reps call and try to update the info over the phone but it doesn't work for them either. All they can say is that they are working on it. It has been 11 days (08/01/2009) of not being able to play now. Not that it is that big of a deal I guess, I am hoping that my dynamis ls is forgiving because my attendance will have fallen to the point that I will no longer be able to sponsor runs, which definitely sucks. I worked hard to get to that level. I guess that is me keeping my hopes up that they will actually ever resolve the issue.

They actually suggested I should open a new card from a supported issuer. While that probably would resolve the issue, it is an unacceptable option. I am not going to go open another credit card because they screwed their system up. I imagine as each month passes this is going to affect an increasing amount of people, and eventually they will actually 'really try' to fix the problem.

Forgive me for pointing out that Blizzard has also suffered a huge reduction in players, after they announced they are ending WOW at level 99cap (only a few more expansions off), and screwed up Death Knights & Warlocks (according to the player base). Maybe that's why I have seen many former WOW players invading CoX (dominantly on Freedom server) overloading AE and PVP areas. And bringing all their game terminology with them.

With that said, I truly hope you are right about a 'real fix' being in the works FeloniusXI.

I have already made it clear opening another bank account just so I can play FFXI is not right to demand/ask of me. Being that I maintain the 4 accounts of myself and my husband, I already know even if they call me back, they won't be able to combine the payments for the accounts. Eventhough two are linked under their 'SE Acct' because of my former security token. They need to fix their system. As a 24 hour wait between times you can use the same card number is retarded. so in essence what they are saying is that I need 4 new bank accounts/cards.... Not going to happen.

~Makai

P.S. Of all the game companies that look to be doing well, and even expanding their supported games... NC Soft is nothing to sneeze at. (Aion, Star Trek, Champions Online, City of Heroes & City of Villains <CoX= both city of games>)

You might want to clarify that statement and the op, I'm assuming it applies to players with a USA acct that are living outside the USA, because to my understanding this was effecting USA accounts only, so no need for a JP or EU account to need the update.

So I am using a Visa 50$ Gift Card, since my cash card from college is out of funds. But the gift card can not do the 3D verify thing that is required. I called customer information and the guy told me to call the bank and ask them which ones were. But I thought you said he would be able to switch my account simply over the phone and I wasn't required to have a 3D verified card? Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Why did I get downrated for pointing out that this FAQ contains *inaccurate* information? If your card is not supported, you have to get a new one (at this time, at least). You *can't* just call POL and have them change your credit card info. The FAQ needs to be changed to show this, because this is the primary issue people are angry about.

Did you specifically say that you wanted him to change your information for you or did you simply ask him what to do? It's sounding like if you call to ask what you should do, they'll pitch the 3D secure cards. Can you try calling again and this time insist that they change your information, let us know what happens.

Bank of America MasterCard user and it doesn't seem like it's shown on the list of securecode financial institutions.

Tried looking up Bank of America's website and they have something that sounds similar called a Safepass. Anyone have any idea if this is the same thing? If not I'll try calling up to change my credit info over the phone.

Bank of America isn't on the list, but supposedly some of their cards are said to be accepted if you can find the sign-up screen at:
https://www.securesuite.net/bankofamerica/registration/welcome.jsp?partner=mc

Note: Bad security design, the URL is under Securesuite's name, and not Bank of America. Makes it hard to distinguish from a phishing attempt.

Over time, BoA has gobbled up a number of card issuers, and they don't seem to be well integrated. I'm guessing the problem is due to the patchwork of who actually issued the BoA card you're using. Mine was formerly from MBNA, and apparently does not work.

The only way around the issue with a card that does not verify and you are in the usa is to use a ps2 to update the info as the ps2 limitations prevent the verification as there is no internet browser capable of a secure connection on the ps2 in the usa.

Can anyone confirm that this works? I have recently been issued a new card by my bank, and while my old one worked with Verified By Visa, the new one doesn't seem to. I just assumed that they would expect that I would register the card via a computer and then change the information via the POL viewer. I have been running in circles with my bank (Chase FTL!) and Visa, and think I've maybe found an imperfect, if not viable, solution. But if I can just set it up with my PS2 (which is where I play anyway) and it'll actually charge through, then I'll say bollox to the alternative method and do that.

Plese let me know if this has actually worked for anyone!

Thanks

I was able to update my account over the phone after a 20 min wait. The card that was updated was a mastercard bank debt card. The min. I got off the phone I was able to reactivate the ID despite a -$10 debt to the account.
