Do you find yourself wishing you could go on some more swashbuckling adventures with Joachim? Has the urge to get swallowed up by a cavernous maw and spit out in dimensions unknown been eating away at you? Then spice up your Vana'dielian experience by experiencing all three Abyssea battle add-on scenarios—Vision of Abyssea, Scars of Abyssea, and Heroes of Abyssea—for free!

This event will be held from Sunday, August 11, 2013 to Friday, October 11, 2013.
*Dates and times are subject to change.

However, what sort of eleventh vana'versary celebration would that be if adventurers had to visit Abyssea empty-handed? That's why, in addition to all three battle scenarios, explorers taking advantage of this opportunity will receive nine types of atma, one piece of lunar abyssite, fistfuls of cruor, and a visitant aura bonus!

Start cleaning the teeth of your nearest maw, for more information on the Abyssea and Atma Axtravaganza will be made available in the following days.

Mmm one of the big things for returning players atm is. Anyone who wants to come back to ffxi Is suppose to spend $40 on the seekers collectors edition. And they might not know how important abyssea still is and instead spend $30 on just Adoulin. (Like if they last played 5 years ago during WoTG) This exact thing happened to someone in my ls a few days ago. And now they're buying each abyssea addon for $10 each. So coming back to ffxi then spending $73 the first month(Adoulin, + 3 abyssea's + monthly sub) just to catch up. It may be small but I can see some people benefiting from this.

Also this will be good for newer players who haven't had a chance to get into abyssea before (you don't see very many atma shouts anymore)

If they are smart, they will use the opportunity to work with their friends on getting some Atma - it's a lot easier going forward if one has some atma to start with. Even if they don't have close friends to work with, it may make them feel more confident joining a pickup group shout, knowing that they have an atma to equip and some cruor (and if they did some exploring, some confluxes)

The Unleashing of the Abyssea and Atma Axtravaganza! (07/04/2013)

Campaign Period
Friday, August 9, 2013, to Friday, October 11, 2013.
*Dates and times subject to change

In celebration of the eleventh FINAL FANTASY's eleventh year of service, we're giving away all three Abyssea battle area expansions, along with a few key items to help with your adventures there.
For those who have yet to trek into the otherworldly and violet-hued wilderness to obtain Empyrean equipment, unfurl the story by undertaking missions, or gain massive amounts of experience from the perverse foes within, now is the time!
* More information on the Abyssea and Atma Axtravaganza will be made available in the following days.

* Read on for the particulars on Abyssea.
* Read on for how to get started traversing Abyssea.

• [Gift 1] All Three Abyssea Battle Scenario Add-ons
Receive all three scenarios—Vision of Abyssea, Scars of Abyssea, and Heroes of Abyssea—during the campaign period, at no cost to you!
* Characters must be level 30 or above to access Abyssea content.
* The Rise of the Zilart and Wings of the Goddess expansions must be installed and registered in order to play Abyssea content.

• [Gift 4] 100,000 Cruor
Cruor is a red, naturally-occurring mineral found in Abyssea, as well as the standard currency of the realm. It can be exchanged for maps and other sundries, warp point activation, and special boons.
* Cruor is most often obtained by killing monsters and completing quests.

• [Gift 5] A Colossal Increase to Initial Traverser Stone Stocks
Traverser stones are magically imbued stones that allow for travel to and existence in Abyssea. Each stone enables its bearer to stay within the world for thirty minutes apiece.
During the campaign period, new adventurers will be able to hold many more traverser stones than most who first set foot upon Abyssea's violet landscape.

Assuming all players get the gift and not JUST new ppl getting Abyssea for the first time?

Actually just thinking about that, if your new you wouldn't already have an abyssite.
Though with how the rest of the campaign is described it's only discussing new players, no where else does it discuss existing Abyssea owners.

And like, play too.

Greetings,

This campaign was designed to help out players who have yet to purchase and play through Abyssea content. However, even if you have already purchased Abyssea you will still be able to receive the Atma and cruor gifts. Players that do not possess the lunar abyssite that is purchasable from certain NPCs will be gifted one, and those that already have this will receive 100,000 cruor instead.

As long as you participate during the campaign period everything you receive (including the 3 battle area add-ons) will be yours to keep!

Not really - you can just buy the expansion without the collection still, can't you?

It's a nice marketing strategy atleast. It makes SE look good for giving away free stuff you otherwise had to pay for, while at the same time isnt losing them any money at all since;

1) Everyone either already HAS Abyssea, it's been years. or;

2) The only available things these days are complete collections anyhow, which come with Abyssea included in the first place. So anyone getting a new collection just for Seekers of Adoulin gets Abyssea, and even complete new players, (if we still get those), can only purchase a complete collections edition that comes with Abyssea as well.

The only people who possibly would get some use out of this were people who quit 6-7 years ago. And if free abyssea is the thing to get them to resubscribe, the monthly fee of this new resubscriber is enough to cover the costs for SE really.

tl;dr: Brilliant marketing idea. Absolutely no use to anyone. But nice try and nice thinking SE.

Bitter about something? Having started an account this spring with an ffxi collection, those atmas and cruor will be of enormous benefit to me. I'm really looking forward to this event.

Add me to the list of people who will benefit from this event. I left in August 2010 and returned a few months ago.

I started my stone counter and got a few opening cutscenes, but other than that, I haven't been in Abyssea for longer than two minutes, so I'm looking forward to the jump start.

Some of the atmas included are a total ***** to get. Allure and Minikin are not so hard since there's usually a group fighting them you can flag up around and go "atma pls" and get invited to join (Carabosse for the Empyrean weapon and Durinn for the +2 gems he drops) but Razed Ruins and Voracious Violet, two of the best DD atmas, often require a linkshell willing to spend a few hours and a bit of effort to get because the NMs suck and don't drop that much of anything really valuable other than the atma.

I canceled my content ID last night because I'm jumping to XIV in a couple weeks, but I'm going to log in later today just so I can get Razed Ruins in the event I ever come back.

Hey guys,

I just noticed the Abyssea/Atma event going on. Do I need to be level 30 to open the blue chest mentioned in the official event website? I'm not sure if this matters or not, but I technically haven't received the opening CS(s) yet since I'm level 25, but I really want to take advantage of these free Atma's. For reference, I just started the game (again) a few days ago (Ultimate Seekers Edition).

Thanks for any info.

I think you do need to be level thirty, and have started the quest with Joachim. You have until October 11th.

Push push push for those last five levels and get 'er done!

Hey Catwho,

Okay then, so the order of things would be > level 30 > Joachim to start the official Abyssea content > Open blue chest for the freebies?

Yes, you need to be 30. If you haven't gotten the starting Abyssea cs (which requires level 30) the box that gives you the rewards tells you to buzz off.
