Final Fantasy XI Missing Dat Files!Follow

I've been having constant troubles with dat files. Some of them, like Peiste (ROM5/5/86.dat), are missing from the game and the ROM drive. I've used Model Viewer and Altana Viewer, and they don't appear. I looked into the corresponding location, and they didn't exist. I am left wondering "Why didn't the file checker update and add those missing files?"

I'm very puzzled right now...

Perhaps someone can enlighten me on what's going on, and how exactly to update and add those files?

If anyone here has that file, thus, then they have the entire collection of dat files, I assume. If you do have that file, please, upload all of your ROM files to mediafire, and share them. I cannot get the PlayOnline viewer to update and add those files no matter how many times I check.

I also did a reinstall of Windows 10 as well. That didn't fix the problem either.

If the file check didn't work, I can try uploading some missing DATs for you. Just know I probably wouldn't do more than a dozen. x.x

Yeah, the file check didn't work. For months now, I've been puzzled by customer support not knowing what's going on with the missing files. Some particular missing files include:

Raff
Madrid

a few others...

But that's not all...

I noticed small and large numerical gaps in the ROMs directory. I'll give you a list of files that are not included... (I did this work in 5 days... and it was strenuous, non-stop work, possibly 5 hours per day worked on.)

At this point I'd just suggest a full reinstall since they've got the download files up. Update process will suck, but at least you'd hopefully be able to play eventually.

I completed the reinstall, and ended up missing even more files. I attempted the file checker, and it downloaded some files. However, now... I am missing the exact same files as before. Not sure what's going on...

They say my computer has an antivirus software or malware installed. I ran malwarebytes, adwcleaner, and Hitman Pro. It came up with a few files, but nothing too dangerous. I attempted the reinstall, and file checker, still... same problem.

Not really sure what else to suggest. Running the game from Win10 may be your overall culprit, but if you did get a hit on some malware, it's possible there's still some stuff you haven't caught. I'm also unsure if Windows Defender or whatever Win10 equivalent might be would potentially clash with the install.

So, I guess it might be prudent to ask if you're installing from disks or the free download (from SE or otherwise). If you've been using one install source consistently, it might be wise to find an alternative due to possible corruption. And while someone could technically upload the whole unpackaged game to some file sharing service, I hope you realize that'd be over 10gb of data, which is also why I said I wouldn't personally upload more than a few dozen files myself.

Absolute worst case scenario, you may have a failing hard drive where those particular DATs were attempted to be written, but the sectors were bad and thus obviously weren't. Don't know if a defrag would help in this regard or not.

I just did an install with the downloaded version on a new PC, hoping that that will solve the problem. Unfortionately, the exact same dat files are missing. I am at a loss of what to do. I think their download is corrupted, and I don't really want to use their CD versions... I've heard of problems arising with those on Windows 10 PCs. Do you know a place that has the complete download archived? I don't mind a torrent, since that pretty much the only way to get it now (as long as it doesn't have viruses or a keygen/patch/serial code)

Can't think of any up-to-date torrents, personally. Their official download is pretty much your best bet.

Wondering if maybe you're getting some kind of conflict with a virus scanner or the like. POL has been prone to get flagged in the past. So, this would mean shutting down things like MacAfee, Avast, or whatever you're using, alongside likely things like Windows Firewall and Security Essentials. If a fresh install/update doesn't take after that, I'd be more inclined to worry something is up with your hard drive.
