Stuck, not sure what to do next. Follow

Hello.

I recently returned from a 2 year break and have been trying to gear up according to current standards.

It was actually a bit depressing since the first thing I did was get sparks gear which made about 80% of my old gear (Some that took a lot of effort to get) obsolete.

Next thing I did was to go to Abyssea and get the majority of my gear to i109.

Now comes the problem, I tried UCNMs, but even on my BST the majority of them are too difficult, so no access to that content.

Then I tried Alluvion Skirmish, which also proved to be too tough to solo. Granted I only tried a few times, Rala VVV and Rala IV IV IV and got owned by the NM both times.

I have an 8 month old, so getting groups is a bad idea, since I have to randomly afk all the time, and I'm finding that the majority of new content is not solo friendly, so I'm feeling stuck and frustrated.

I was wondering if anyone here with more experience in the game could advise me on content that's accessible to someone like me who doesn't have large chunks of uninterrupted game play and basically hates asking others for help.

Thank you for your help!

Yorcia Skirmish is the one you want to do if soloing. Trade Copper Vouchers for Obsidian Fragments, then once in the event, spend like 600 or so on worms to defend your base and then a couple for offense while you roam and build up some more to spawn more attackers later. You don't want to fight the enemies that come from the objective (they'll hand you your butt), but free roaming stuff is fine. It might take a while to put together the right set, but it'll generally be better than Sparks gear and it can be augmented if you're not hurting for gil. Though, some gil will have to go into accessing Skirmish itself.

Beyond that, getting some of your AF/Relic to 119 is just a matter of grinding sparks to convert to pages if you can't find BC groups. You'll want some gil for the trade components, too, which could cost over a mil per depending.

If you haven't already, though, work on RoV. You should probably be able to get to the Reisenjima wing on sparks gear, but after that you're gonna want better gear. The more ideal solution is to hope someone might let you mooch upgrades from other events, but XI hasn't really changed in that a lot of people are closed circle and putting PUGs together can be extremely hit and miss.

That was really helpful Seriah, especially because I didn't know that the items to upgrade relic to 119 was stuff you could just buy. I looked up Dark Matter and saw it dropped from a mob I couldn't kill, and figured it was all unobtainable.

I will try your advice in Skirmish.

I'm currently on RoV 2-5-2, but Reisenjima so far is just something I hear people talk about, I'm really clueless as to what it's all about.

Any advice on getting the sparks for all those chapters of Rem's Tales?

Thanks again for all of your advice.

Well, depending on how many quests you've gone through, you might be able to just snag a good reserve right off the bat. Stuff like job levels and mission progress can contribute. Also be sure to have Rieve things set when go through Adoulin zones to collect Biovaucs and whatnot. They'll offer small permanent JP bonuses once completed. However, the best standalone Sparks quest tends to be the one that asks to gain EXP. If you're strong enough to solo Adoulin mobs or even early Escha Ru'Aun things, a single mob kill would be an objective clear. Downside is this is a 2 hour window that might not cooperate with your schedule, so I'd try to find the table to see when you can best try to get it. Unfortunately, you won't be able to upgrade your Empyrean gear without Vagary clears, so I'd target your more useful AF and Relic if you see a good piece listed. Also be sure to go through your daily/unity quests.

Hello again!

So I got lucky and found a Vagary group and got my clears to bring my i109 gear up to i119. Unfortunately however I feel stuck once again.

I went into Reisenjima and tried to fight a couple mobs, Crom Dubh seemed like an easy place to start. Unfortunately with my THF maxed out in i119 gear and a little bit of enchanted stuff like Herculean trousers could barely hit him, and I assume he's one of the least evasive mobs in Reisenjima. I switched to my BLM who is also sporting i119 gear, Enchanted Lathi, Amalric Gages, and again found my nukes doing just about 200 damage per.

So anyway, I'm still not geared well enough to defeat much of anything that drops anything that will improve my character. I don't really have any help either so I'm not sure what to do.

Does anyone know of stuff within my skill level to fight that can help me improve so that I can join groups and not be shrouded in shame?

A lot of these are better done in small groups than solo, but I understand your time limitations.

Have you tried any of the abjuration NMs in Escha Ru-Aun (sky)? Some of those can be a bit easier once you know their "trick" although those that summon helpers or adds will probably be tough to handle solo.

On my server (Phoenix) there are occasional shouts for Reisenjima farming, but I'm honestly not sure how well those groups fare.

What's your accuracy at? Just highlight yourself and type /checkparam. Anything under 1000 is asking for trouble in Rei, but even then some mobs will be more evasive still. Sadly, just being i119 isn't enough as not all gear is equal in the tier.

There is now a wide, *wide* variety of i119 gear, and some of it varies enough in effectiveness to the point where I really wonder why they stubbornly cling to a i119 max when it's clear as day that some i119 pieces are better than others. In short, just because you're in i119 duds doesn't mean that you will necessarily be able to take on current endgamey type mobs effectively :<

Since it sounds like you're playing alone, trust setups are very important; almost as much so as your gear and sometimes even more so. Something I highly recommend doing as a melee class if you haven't already is to join Sylvie's unity. She is the only geomancer trust and is packing atk or acc bubbles (depending on whether or not you need acc) and enemy -def bubbles for you that will greatly enhance your melee potential on most moderately difficult targets.

Some good news!

I managed to get some help upgrading my THF and BLM, got into a hardmode Tenzen group so now Orobo will talk to me. Got a Ternion Dagger +1, and a Sandung, so now my THF is at:

Average Item Level: 119
Primary ACC: 1003
Aux ACC: 990
Primary ATK: 976
Aux ATK: 910
EVA: 1022
DEF:770

I managed to get Merlinic Legs/Feet/Head. I got Amalric Hands from the Gobbie so that's also a bonus.

What I'm looking for now are some of the easier NMs in Reisenjima, or Zi'Tah, or Ru Aun that are within my range of difficulty/gear. Hopefully I can solo a piece here and there and start gearing up my other jobs, RDM, GEO, MNK, BST, SAM.

I was thinking about trying Taelmoth https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Taelmoth_the_Diremaw for Herculian Gloves and Valolrous Hose. I looked up a lot of other Reisenjima mobs and the majority of them don't look solo friendly, but some of them are easier than others. so any advice in that direction I could get would be awesome!

As for trusts I actually just switched to Apururu. I do try to do stuff like 2X BRD + DNC when acc is an issue. I'll have to check out Sylvie though, thanks for the advice.

When I fought Taelmoth, he was a jerk and kept throwing out 1-shots with Benthic Typhoon and such.

Belphegor (Herculean feet, Odyssean legs) is a wuss as long as you bring a light-based dispel. As BLU it's a trivial solo as long as I set Blank Gaze, but you may need additional help. So far he's been the only Reisenjima NM I've been able to kill >_>
