I am back after almost 2 years. I left shortly after the last seekers expansion came out.

What are some of the major things I should know? Big changes in game?

What are some things I should start right away? (ie stones for Abyssea type stuff)

What are thing that would help me acclimate right away back into the community?

Anyone have a linkshell on Asura?

Any help for an old timer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Nako

I've been "in and out" for a while. Best thing is to check the forum. There hasn't been much activity, so you should be able to see everything in the first few pages. There's been monthly updates, I would check those posts firsts.

I didn't want to start a new thread so this seemed like the best place to stick this:

I'm currently deployed and bored out of my mind. The laptop I've got isn't going to run much, but it would have no problem handling FFXI. I still get the itch to return to vana'diel all the time and I can't think of a better time than while I'm overseas with absolutely nothing to do. The thing is, I don't have a current account and I haven't played since Abyssea first released so... I'd be starting from scratch and I'd be a big noob once I got leveled up. Is there anyone out there with a linkshell or decent group of regulars who might take me in?

I'd be eager to get back into the game but unwilling to do so if I'm going to be utterly alone on a barren server because of how old the game is. If I have a decent social foundation to get started with and people who are willing to help me get up to speed once I get past the early drudgery, I'd really enjoy playing again, but if it's not going to be worth it, I won't bother.

You'd probably have better luck on Reddit, but I'm curious why you don't have your old account. Just lose the info or delete it thinking you'd never come back?

I wouldn't even know where to begin recovering it. I left around the first wave of Abyssea content. I'd created it around NA PC release. That's like 15+ years ago, meaning I was around 15 myself at the time. I have no idea what email or CC or anything I would have used to create it, let alone last pay for it. I wasn't really adverse to the idea of starting fresh from level 1, even though it's boring and I'll be way behind, I just didn't want to do it if there's going to be zero social interaction and nobody willing to kind of coach me once I start reaching content I'm not familiar with (or advise me on what's no longer worth my time).

I can't remember the timeline if Abyssea forced us to have SEIDs by then or not. If they did and you can remember that, your old account shouldn't technically be lost unless you deleted the IDs. I'd suggest trying to recall what emails you've might've used to sign up if you did, and if you can still access those, start putting in for password resets. Might save you some hours.

To be honest you'll be level 99 in no time at all with how fast exp is, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Social interaction is hard but you can probably just join the reddit shell. I dunno, I interact with folks when they are around (if they are into it) but the game is totally quiet these days.

If you ever end up on Asura and see me shoot me a tell and I will give you a little welcome back present. Name is Olor.
