Account Reactivation - What do you need?Follow

I have been feeling pretty nostalgic recently, and wanted to revisit Vana'diel and catch up on some of the newer content that I missed out on since quitting (I quit shortly after completing WoG). However I cannot for the life of me find or remember any of my old log in details.

Has anyone had any luck reactivating an account without any of their original log in details? If so, what info did you need? IIRC they used to be pretty strict when it came to account recovery, and I am not sure whether I have a chance or not.

On another note, how effective are alter ego's? The game looks a lot more accessible to both casual and new players now, and so I might even consider starting a new character from scratch if I can effectively progress solo in my own time.

Thanks!

I was able to do it about 3 years ago when the same thing came over me. Couldn't remember my POL ID or password to save my soul.

I hate to say it but.... I had to contact SE customer support through their live chat. Fortunately what I DID have were my old product keys. I was able to provide those along with the names of my characters and they reset my password for me.

After that you migrate your POL account to your SE account and you never have to worry about that again. Everything is handled through the SE account after that and POL just becomes a big loud launcher.

My wife and I just started back up after 4 years. SE customer service is decent if you have some of your old information... Name, address, birthday and stuff like that... Worst case buy a new copy of the game.

As for alter egos... they are broken. Imagine walking around with a party ALL the time. The AI is questionable but they are not much different from the average lazy player we all had to deal with before so not really an issue. Starting fresh and having to learn all the new stuff I have gotten War, Nin, Thf, and Mnk to 50, whm and blm to 20+, rdm to 30 and Bst to 40. Not sure what to play yet. On top of that I am rank 2, have mounts and teleports to most of the original game areas. All of that in under 24 hours of play time but to be fair I did a lot of leveling with the exp bonus last week.

Until late game there is almost not reason to group up... Trusts don't take exp, exp for everything was doubled a few years ago, EXP rings are now 5k, 10k or 15k bonus depending on which you buy. Most wait a RL day quests have changed to hours... wait hours turned to minutes. Leveling here solo is faster than most other MMOs solo. Most maps are now bought instead of quested. RoEs give a lot of Sparks(currency) which can be converted to gil at about a rate of 1:10. In that 1 day play time I have made well over 400k and never used the AH.

That sounds a little more promising, I even vaguely recall setting up an SE account (That was when they introduced Crysta as the payment method wasn't it?), although, just like my POL details I do not remember the SE account details either.

That is all pretty interesting, things have definitely become more accessible. My biggest worry with starting over was that I would find quickly hit a wall with some of the low end quests (Limit breaks etc), and struggle to find help (None of my old friends still play), but the Alter Ego's look great.

Did it! I owe you one Archmage Callinon!

Yep it turns out I did have an SE account already set up (I believe I left just after they were introduced, and so I had forgotten all about it). Luckily I am too lazy to delete my E-Mails and have mail dating back to 2010, including my original SE account registration confirmation E-Mails, complete with log in details. I am just glad I never tossed my SE security key, and that the battery still works after all these years!

Now to dust off the old disks, and spend the next couple of days downloading several years worth of updates, see you on the other side!

Well then good news! You can download the main client data directly from SE's website and let the POL viewer download the expansion data for you. Still takes about 12 hours or so but there's no disc swapping.

Subjob is done for you with RoV basically... Airship pass to Norg area can also be skipped if you want. They have changed some of the limit breaks making them easier to solo.

Did I mention the mount you get 5 minutes after your choco is AWESOME?Works a lot like a chocobo with low cooldown and you can use it just about anywhere outdoors. Unlocking the past is super easy like this... running around Qufim at lower levels = np.

Probably not a bad idea to pick one of the higher population servers if starting over... just in case you have questions or need something.
