My Excitement (Don't read if you don't care...)Follow

I just bought the game last night, watched the depressing opening video... Sat through the hour and a half install. Then had to sit through a 3 hour update. But yet I am still roaring to go!

A buddy got me a gold pass but I'm not sure what server I'll be playing on. So this evening I'll be making another post with my server and my name and inviting you guys to give me the standard noob welcome party :). J/K, I'll be posting my information incase anyone on that server would care to group with me from time to time and possibly be a life line if I had any questions.

I asked my wife to use the online character creator tool to pick out how she wants me to look... I doubt she'll actually do it and thats fine because I already picked out my favorite! lol.

I'm not going to be able to log on for 12 hours!... Oh the torture. Unless after seeing all the cute little characters my wife decides she wants us all (we have 3 little kids) to sit infront of the TV and develop the character together, though the kids would love it... Pretty unlikely.

Anyhow, I'd like to thank everyone who responded to my previous post and who has encouraged me to play. I'd also like to thank everyone who has posted any useful information! And just to get it out of the way, I'd like to thank everyone who is going to help me in the future! :) Thanks!

Best of luck indeed. I think you'll find that FFXI is without a doubt THE SINGLE GREATEST GAME EVER MADE!!!!!!!!!!*

Note that this statement is purely opinion, and does not represent the opinions of the WoWaholic majority that plays MMOs, but no one really cares about them much anyways.

Come to Pandemonium. We're the single best server. We have no RMTs and our tarutaru are hung like horses*.

Oh and do not drop beastman seals!

*except Lemmi.

If you live in the EU; Fenrir has a lovely EU linkshell called Europa & End-Game EU Linkshells. For the US, everything is about fine. :P

G~l with FFXI! Don't get addicted, now. The gym > FFXI.

What's "The gym?" Is that a new expansion coming out? Does that have anything to do with the "Real Life" expansion I keep hearing about?

Four hours should be an ample amount of time to reach level 2, even more, I am sure.

Just remember to check the mobs before you attack them, and stay away from the beastmen (yagudo, quadiv, and orcs) untill they are decent challenge or easy pray.

and save all of your beastmen seals.

Yea; it's the most anticipated expansion evar! It adds the jobs "Student", "Prostitute", "Teacher", "Drugs Dealer" and "Sex Addict". Don't forget the new status effects "Depression", "Hunger", "Horniness" and "Orgasmic", too!

Also, I am not sure if they are still handing out Anniversary rings they can be used to get extra EXP per kill. I know the Moogle by the Mog House in Port Sandy was giving them out.

Meh, to be honest, with my first 4 hours with this game, I would simply wander around whatever starter city I started in.

Get a feeling for everything, where the shops are, maybe start a quest or two (for some money). See if there's anything you could do just to get more familiar with the game (Starting in bastok? well every drunk monkey should find Cid and talk to him one for entertainment's sake). Find out a few things, get used to your inventory, etc.

Once you think you've gotten that down, and even maybe said hello to a few people :3, take it outside. I'd imagine if you spent 2 hours getting familiar, and 2 hours starting your head-strong plow into leveling, you'd probably hit around level 4 or 5.

Remember that /heal and ctrl + h allow you to regain your life after battle, but mobs that can agro, will agro <3.

He seriously needs to bring his annoying taruness to =10. He's getting ripped on and isn't around to be snappy with a reply, so tragic. I'm telling!!!

Taken from Coddys Sticky

a: Commonly used FFXI Phrases and abbreviations.

FTFY: "fixed that for you": this is usually a sarcastic remark used when altering someone's quote to either reflect a more accurate statement, or to create a quasi-humorous statement.
"sky": this refers to a region accessed late in the Rise of the Zilart mission series. The region is known as Tu'Lia; it is home to many end-game activities.

4 hrs to level 2 wow that's a record. I spent 2 full days running around Port Sandy trying to figure out how to get out of there. Trying to see what quest I needed to do to get the Airship pass so I could leave. I didn't even fight my first mob until my 4th day.

Not really. EVERYONE I know uses it as a "lol" aka. laughing/funny emoticon.

Say, an LS mate tells you:
"hey lol check this out this rmt just got himself killed by linking leaping lizzy!!"

And someone replies:
"haha wtf?! XD"

Then XD is used to express laughing in a kind of sarcastic manner. It's hard to explain, really, but you'll get a feel for it as people around you use it.

This is so, so true. Don't mess with the rabbits. Unless you really know what you're getting into.

Nightmare Rabbits in Dynamis Buburimu > 36 well geared level 75s ;; Last time at least we cleaned them out . . . just barely.

QFT!

Many players have thrown away stacks of these before they learned how valuable they are. You won't be able to use them until you get a job to 30 (because the fights they gain access to start at level 30 cap), so that's some time off, but hoard them in your mog house and you'll have great fun later on.

Twadd - I've enjoyed your posts. What will be your first job? Are you going Taru?

My advise is this: DO NOT get hooked on quick leveling cause you are gonna need gil for decent gear (maybe spells etc.). Don't forget to do missions and quests and what not.

I am still messing around with their crazy PlayOnline registration content ID madness, still waiting to play. *sighs* Anyways, consider yourself fortunate to have such a family & be involved in this spectacular gaming experience.

I'm happy you're gonna be playing. :)
