A NooBs Life (Day 2)Follow

So yesterday was day 2. I managed to gain two levels and two friends. I'd say it was a successful day! I finally figured out the coordinate system (as far as what G2 means). Some people have been extremely patient with. Twice I gave this guy directions on where to find me and both times I died and then gave him new directions which happened to point back to town without telling him I was back in town... Oops! That <pos> command should really mention zone name as well. That'd be helpful.

I got some experience working how a Black Mage should work, though I really need to work on my hate management. Things really enjoy hating me. One thing I had difficulty doing was following my log during combat. Is there a way to mute certain information... Like combat from non-party members? If so is there a standard that most people use? I really don't know how many tells and says I missed in combat. It's impossible to follow, especially when there are people near by doing stuff.

Something really useful I found out. On this site if you go up to search and type in the name of an item it tells you if there are any quests that need it! Thats my new best friend! Why get a quest and try to find the items when you can get items and try to find the quest! :)

I was told to start selling items on the AH for what I bought them for (as far as gear and so on...), so I've decided to keep a spread sheet of all the reusable items I've purchased. I'm also going to have a spread sheet of important NPCs and their locations. That should be useful as well. Instead of saying dang it... where did I find that... I can look it up!

For getting in a party, what range of levels can be together? Can a level 6 get decent experience when partying with a level 8 or 9?

Thats it for now,

Better off soloing to 15 without having a subjob unlocked, but mileage varies depending on job. You can get rings that have an experience points boost enchantment from gate gaurds (they cost Coonquest points not gil).

As for AHing everything, some items simply wont be worth it as they might not sell well. So sell craft items on AH and NPC the random crap you get.

And keep your Beastman Seals. Always.

You can mute lines of text from the log in the config section of the main menu. Play around with the ones that are most useful to you as this varies depending on job role in a party.

i usualy wait till lv 12 to start in party's.

Valkrum Dunes is the spot you will prolly be leveling with a party.

You want to stay at a max of 1-3 level diffrence, exp is based on the mobs level and the highest lv in your pt, then adjusted(lower) for anyone lower.

It was my plan to solo until 10 or so but I was invited to group and I figured I should take it. For me it's been a good experience learning how to handle my hate. As far as selling items I generally mean selling gear that I bought off the AH back to the AH when I'm done with it (Atleast that was the suggestion).

I really like the coordinate system on FFXI, on WoW you had nothing of the sort unless you installed a plugin which typically came with a virus.

I will keep that experience information in mind when looking for groups, thanks!

Thanks,
Twadd

I usually pt at 10 in the dunes though its a little hecktic, 11 or 12 would be much safer.

you might wanna check out ffxiah.com instead of making a spreadsheet of all the AH transactions you make seeing as how that keeps track of them. Though come to think of it, ffxiah only keeps track of jeuno transactions, so until then if you really want to spreadsheets would work.

I will have to look into that at some point, but for now spreadsheets will do!

Thanks.

The chat problems can be fixed. If you go into your config option there are several chat filters you can turn on. Also you can change your background in the text boxes and edit the colors things appear.

Some things I like to change color wise are my resists. I like to make those a very noticeable color like red. Also I tend to make my tell chat dark purple and keep party chat blue and ls chat a dark green.

Once you have gotten those filters on it becomes a lot easier to read your log. Also you can change damage to appear on the mob instead of in your log if you dont really care what your doing damage wise.

Some filters to change would be.

Anything dealing with other pcs and npcs outside the party or alliance, damage from party members or alliances, damage from mobs outside your party, actions started by anything not in your alliance or party.

I'm begging to question if your honestly a noob now Twadd. You seem way too rational and i'm sure most of us when we started never used spreadsheets or half as much logic. I know i sold pretty much everything to NPC's and used a polearm on Warrior till i hit lvl 30 and unlocked Dragoon.

I will also recommend this to you http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/jobs.html?fjob=3

Thats the Black Mage forum. General forum will be better for general gameplay advice but if you want more detailed knowledge of your job then that forum will have it. Start by checking the 3 "sticky" topics at the top and read through some of the guides which will explain how to get certain spells, what is the best gear you can buy and how to solo exp effectivly.

lol there is a difference between a newb and a noob. A noob is someone who believes that are right about everything no matter what other people tell them and they genaerally suck at everything a newb is a new and inexperienced player

On high damage/defense jobs I solo until 20, because its easy and faster than partying (Well maybe not faster, but hassle free)

Jobs like Black Mage, Corsair, White Mage, Red Mage, Bard, Thief and Ranger, I threw my party flag up at level 10 on the ding.

Some jobs can just solo better at lower levels while others take days to get to level 10.

Don't Question his Honesty of being a Noob, in his other thread he had no idea how to find NPC's or who to use the Coordinates. He is just an Adult, and actually has some common sense.

When i started i was a Noob, but i knew some general Stuff. Not all noobs are like Tele-jeuno Plz, how i mine for fish, how can i get moogle to join my party. Some actually have some Decent logic, and Spreadsheets are a Great way to organize. Maybe he's Left handed or Quasi-OCD/Perfectionist. Trust me, its possible.

>.>
<.<

-_-

Stupid left hand.

Ps. I am left handed, so this is hwo i was and am.

Well I am new to FFXI. I have played a lot of the other FF's though. I just quit WoW to play FFXI so i do have some MMORPG experience. Not to mention I have had loads of assitance from you guys here.

Like I said, or thought I said, writing things down and keeping track of this wasn't my idea. It was suggested to me by one of those two new friends I got yesterday. He suggested using a notebook but I'll probably use Excel... And if I ever find the servers down I may take that time to write a program to do it :).

Thanks for all the config information, I look forward to playing with that tonight!

So whats the verdict. How should I label myself? NooB? or Newb? or something totally different... I guess I better add a poll.
What is Twadd
NooB :1 (2.7%)
Newb :22 (59.5%)
Monkey (Don't ask... I don't know):11 (29.7%)
Something Else :3 (8.1%)
Total:37

Hi Twadd.:) If you're on PC, you can hit the + key on the numeric keypad, then hit Enter, and it should enlargen your chat window. From here you can scroll up and down all the text that's just flown by. I think there's some limit or a buffer, so it won't show everything, but it does show quite a lot.

Also, while here I think you can hit the TAB key and it'll filter through things like Tells, Party chat, stuff in Say and Linkshell chat. ;o To get out of this hit Esc a couple of times.

Hope that helps. :)

For filters, you could probably try turning on the one for 'Attacks made by Party' and 'Attacks missed by Party'. This way, you don't see stuff like 'XXX misses the mob.' and 'XXX hits the mob for XX damage.' :) You can apply similar things for Alliances. It's probably worth just experimenting a bit with the ones in there. Note, this does include all forms of dmg, including magic.

Finally while we're in the filters bit, if you go up to where it says something like 'received Tells' if you hit Enter a few times, you can toggle it to Hold, and this way it'll be held at the top of your log for a little bit while other stuff is filling up. I think you can do this with a few of those, like linkshell/party, etc.

Also you can make a green musical symbol appear next to tells received by hitting Enter as before to cylce through, and what this does is it makes a musical ping sound when someone sends you a tell. :) I really like it, it was added a while ago.

Thanks a lot for that.

I am left handed by the way and 24. But I have 3 kids and when you factor that in it's more like being 30 (Especially since I have twins).

It's encouraging to know that I now know how to use coordinates and find NPC's! (for the most part)
#18 Dec 06 2007 at 7:18 AM Rating: Excellent
hehe when you get 30 and unlock ranger you can widescan the map and the npc you want will be able to be tracked ^^.

I noticed that you were Sage a while ago, but after replying just now, you went back to Scholar, so I tried desperately to help you remain Sage, as a bit of fun. :x But I guess it wasn't enough. :[

Question about storage, last night I filled up my inventory. When you guys who have multiple classes leveled up how do you store stuff? It seems to me like 30 slots (I hear this number goes up) would not be enough to hold your gear for different classes. Question is this, how do you get more slots... Is that just a level thing or is it quest/mission thing? I understand that you can get furniture for your mog house (and have that book marked so you don't need to take the time time to explain how to get it) but when I was looking, it looked like you can only store 1 item per piece of furniture. Is that correct? So max you can only have what... 80ish stacks total?

Yeah I noticed I dropped from Sage too... Must have been my attempt at the goofy poll. That or the fact that I have no business being a Sage and a NooB at the same time. What should be the reasoning behind rating people up or down? Up if they are helpful and make a good post? Down if they hijack useful posts and ruin them? I don't know... probably best to take all that ranking stuff with a grain of salt? What is the general feeling about this stuff?

Thanks,
Twadd

A piece of furniture takes up a slot in your mog, but it has a storage value. ;o I have several armoires in mine (I think it's those), and they give, I think it's 5, storage slots. So my Storage has about 64 slots for rare/ex sort of stuff. ;o You can raise your inventory through gobbie bag quests by 5 at a time. Mine's 60, and every time it goes up I still seem to have trouble managing. Most of the time I am running around at 58 or 59/60.

It's been so long but if I remember correctly I think there are moogle quests that can get triggered which increase mogsafe space. ;o

But of course it's all relative. :) By the time you have several jobs, you'll probably have several of these done, and therefore the space to accomodate the multiple sets of equipment. ;x It's easier when you have jobs that share a lot of equipment too.

I find it very funny how Twadds kharma rating keeps going from Scholar to Sage in alternate posts in this thread.

But yeah, many a newb I've helped have since quit the game from the sheer overwhelming amount of game there is in FFXI.

It probably helps that you've done outside research. One girl I was mentoring told me she was using the Brady Strategy guide. (this was 2 months ago) I think the Brady Guide was 1 of the factors leading to her quitting.

Just try to have fun with what you can do, and don't get overwhelmed with how tough FFXI is gonna get when you start grouping. The dunes has killed many an adventurer.

Following on from ThePwnisher's post, don't fall into trap of trying to do everything at once. :p
#26 Dec 06 2007 at 7:45 AM Rating: Excellent
well there is 3 ways first way is by increasing your mog safe through quests. Second is increasing your inventory by doing quests. third is by getting a mog locker once your able to get to aht urghan.

safe quest require putting a certain bed in your moghouse after sometime your moogle will ask for 1-3 items after you give it the items he will go away for a little while and bring you back a nice bigger safe max safe is 80 so 3 quests there.

Once you get to jeuno with decent fame you talk to a goblin and he gives you quests to increase your inventory or what the goblin calls gobbie bags the items the gobbie asks for can be exspensive especially for the new quests they added with WoTG max inventory is 70.

The mog locker is like an extra safe you get for being a mercenary for salaheems sentinels in aht urghan you can go to aht urghan pre 30 but its not advised unless you have good friends to help ya get the items ya need mog locker has a max of 80 which you get by tradeing aht urghan currency to an npc.

You can also place furniture in you house to increase storage but the drawback is you can only access furniture storage from your home moghouse i dont know the max storage you can have lol i have about 60. Soooo those are the ways to increase your storage if ya have any questions you can PM me and ill try to help further ^^
