Hey Guys,

Well this is more like day 12-15 but I've decided I wouldn't make posts stating I went and farmed rabbits and plants for 3 hours... I am now level 15, and I have ventured out to the dunes and Selbina. Haven't done and exping out there yet as I just made it there. I was lucky enough to find an escort there and yet I still died. It was my fault though... It's hard not to panic and run around when really you should just stand there and let your escort draw agro.

Speaking of Agro, Newbies pay close attention. Elementals will agro from across the map if you use elemental magic. I found this out the hard way. I was just told be careful of Elementals as they don't like magic... And I had heard that before too.. So I looked around and I saw this elemental half way across the map and I figured eh.. I should be okay. I cast a spell and the next thing I know that stinking elemental is dashing across the screen to rip my head off and chew on my kneeless Tarutaru body. (It was looking for a femur but Taru's done have em). When you are in a situation where casting spells will get you destroyed and you are a BLM what is your role in the PT? Melee? Rest?... /panic? Wiped my PT member and he quickly ran off to the dunes to escape my newbishness.

At that point I was invited to a PT in the dunes and thats how I got the escort, I managed to get one of the teleport crystals as well. The boat ride to Selbina was long but apparently it's more interesting at higher levels as you can fight stuff on the deck. I was told not to go up there, so I didn't.

Since I'm level 15 I'm thinking I need to start farming the subjob quest items, is it too early to begin that?

One thing I did notice for the few kills I had in my PT the day before yesterday was that exp in groups is far superior to exp solo. I was killing 3-4 mobs for a net off 100-130 exp solo before having to rest. In a PT we were killing 2-3 mobs for 200 exp before having to rest, this was a PT of two so I imagine it gets better with more guys.

I got to a point in windy missions where they don't have anymore for me, and they say I have to go talk to other people first but they really don't give much or any details as to who you have to talk to. Anyone know what they are talking about or know where I can look to get more details?

As I mentioned before I picked up a crystal shard or something like that, that supposedly lets me teleport to that area. How do I do that?

Thanks,
Twadd (Altis on Carbuncle)

For your windy mission woes: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?fqtype=Mission#Windurst

Look in your mission menu to see where you are or are not

There are various teleport crystals strewn across Vana'diel.

Mea, Dem, Hola, Yhoat, Altep, Vazel (sp?) - have someone escort you to the crystal or just wander til you find it then click on it. You will then be able to be teleported to that crystal.

I highly suggest getting Altep around level 32ish. It's a great leveling spot.

To be teleported to a crystal you need a WHM above level 36 for Teleport-Mea Dem and Holla. The WHM casts the spell and whicks the entire party to that location. (provided everyone touched the crystal first)

Yes I picked it up. But how do I actually get teleported to that crystal? Do I have to ask someone to teleport me? Can I do it myself?

(Edit) Question answered in previous post, thanks!

The earlier you start the better, but the nice thing about doing the selbina sj quest is other then the skull, you'll get them from mobs youll xp off of in the dunes.

Hmm, try doing some of the missions over again to fill up your rank bar. Sometimes you wont get missions untill your rank bar is a bit fuller.

What exactly do you mean by this? What crystals to whom?

Take some crystals to the W.W at the Windy gates and just trade them to the wee little warlocks. In the low ranks, it doesn't take many crystals to get your rank bar filled up so you can do other missions.

Edited to add: You also need to be Rank 2 with all three of the 1st missions completed to do this.

Are you talking about the Wind, Earth and Fire type crystals?

Any type of crystal can be traded to the guards; earth, fire, wind, water, heart, whatever you can find.

Also, it's not too often you'll be seeing an Elemental when you are partying. Most of the camps try not getting close to them. If you do, however, aggro an Elemental, just let the party know, sleep it and ask if the party wants to run or fight it. (Side Note: Elementals aggro to all magics that cost MP, not just Elemental Magic). Also, Bomb mobs which you may see every once in awhile too aggro to magic. If you see them or an Elemental, try not to cast until it's out of sight.

So depending on market and how bad I need gil I should trade crystals to the WW guys instead of selling them on the AH. The one good thing about soloing is that you make more gil per level than in a PT so I can probably afford to trade in some crystals.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Not sure what rank you are for Windy, but you can not trade crystals to the guards (the same one that gives you signet) until you are rank 2 or higher. Rank missions are based on your "mission bar" (if you go to menu, click profile, your mission bar will show up next to your character information - it needs to be almost full to get the mission that would give you the next rank).

You should check to see if you have a mission to finish as well, since you can only have one open. You can check this by checking your mission log to see if you have any open missions. This is on the second menu.

You can check out mission tips and hints under the Quests and Missions part of alla, under Windy Missions.

*edit*: Only trade to the WW guy if you need additional help for your rank - i.e. you can't get the next mission. There really is no need to give up your crystals other than that. Lower level, they are a great source of income, and you will eventually need that gil!

Great! I was unaware of the Quests and Missions area of Alla, I can't believe I never noticed it on the side there. Anyhow, thanks for pointing that out that certainly helps quite a bit! Now to find a PT to do the mission...

Thanks,

You may have noticed it's a long trip from Windurst to Selbina. A great way to shorten the trip is to do an outpost supply quest to the Valkrum Outpost, which is marked on your map and very close to Selbina. You will have to wait for Windurst to control the Zulkheim region (which includes Valkrum) in order to have the Zulkheim outpost supply quest available from your local windurst gate guard.

Once you do the supply quest, you will have the option to warp from windust to the outpost and back for cheap (100 or 300 gil, depending on who controls the region). Only requirement is that you've done the supply quest and are on a job of at least level 10. All the outpost warps have their moments of utility, but Valkurm is especially nice to have, since you're too low level to ride a chocobo when you typically go there, especially all the way from windurst.

Good luck on Windurst getting control of Zulkheim though.
