I am curious if anyone who had their account hacked has gotten them returned yet? I am in the "process" right now and not having much luck but it's still early in the process so I am patiently waiting it out.

Any news?

My friend called in Wednesday with no word back yet. They said to give it a few days before calling back to check on progress, as there are quite a large amount of accounts ahead of his. Sounds like the entire thing might be on a larger scale than we once thought.

I wonder if they'll ever like.. man up and state how many accounts have been compromised.

Nah... that'd be a PR nightmare o.o

Those with copromised accounts are on a list. They go down the list and call each person. SO all you can do is wait, they will not help you until it is your turn. I have yet to get a call.

That's what I am thinking too (that many accounts were hacked). Mine actually got banned as a result and I was told it would have to be handled slightly differntly. What's weird is SE changed my password a little while after I called.

I had checked my account from time to time and kept seeing the banned message then when i checked my account today the password was changed. I don't know if maybe SE logs on to your account to validate it or something.

In any event the first person I spoke too was very helpful but I forgot my credit card info so I had to call back to validate my account fully before they would complete the process. The second person I got really was not helpful at all. He (apperntly) filled out the wrong paper work and it just didnt seem like I was on the right track. So I called a 3rd time and got a very helpful lady (forget her name) but she seemed to handle the problem the right way and made it seem like I would get my account back.

Just a note to anyone who got their account hacked - if your credit card was changed to a known gilfarmer card your account will get banned. It seems to add to the recovery proccess quite a bit.

I feel so bad for all of you. I was on when my account was hacked, and managed to change the password. ...But this is ridiculous that you've had to wait this long. I'm depressed for you. But, it looks like getting accounts back is in the works.. Keep us updated on your progress..

Apparently over 2000 accounts were compromised total as some people from Square has said...so in the end, unless we get the mindless SE bashers saying SE does nothing and SE fails and etc etc, it will take time for them to get accounts returned/fixed.

Maybe with that many accounts (that's a good half of a server number wise, right?) compromised, SE will implement something more secure. I know hubby has an account and in order to log in he has to answer two security questions. When he registered the account, he had to give answers to 4 questions and the computer randomly picks 2. So maybe that'd be an idea for them to use.

I hope you all get your accounts back. Ideally, you'll get your items and gil back too.

Glad to hear that! Still waiting here.
#11REDACTED, Posted: Jan 12 2008 at 7:40 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I seriously doubt that, the accounts were taken so they could be stripped clean, and everything sold for gil. If they return everything (non rare/ex items) it will devalue gil a bit. (sooner or later something will be sold). Depending on the scale of this, it may cause inflation.

So you wouldn't think that they won't get gil or items back because it could potentially inconvenience you economy wise?

To be honest, when I read that thread, I was skeptical it was even taken. Was just a bit too convenient for people to not only know it was instantly hijacked, but that they also knew stolen goods were being traded to a specific character. Not knowing him personally, I wasn't ruling out the possibility of it just being the out of someone that wanted to run off with a couple LS banks to another server. It most certainly wouldn't be the first time it'd happened on Fairy if that was the case.

Hence my skepticism in the very thread when he said he got the account back.

Some of the posts in here, I won't point fingers, have inspired me to make a movie. I'm going to title it Desperate Killers of All Hope.

UPDATE:

Well really there is no update. No calls or emails from SE. No access to my account and it appears my password was changed again.

Still hoping SE fixes this.

You do know there's A LOT of accounts to go through manually right? Especially when changing policies...it will take time so..don't expect anything within a week or two xD.

My friend who lost his account first spoke to SE a week ago, and he called back yesterday just to check on their progress. The representative told him "good things come to those who wait."

Although I think it would be a good business practice to give people a time frame for how long they're going to wait, I can understand that they don't want to make any promises they can't keep.

Thing is the more correct information that you give them about your account the faster and easier your character is to restore. Items, gil, stuff like that, which means they have less logs to go through. If you gave them a time of say December 17th day, verses a person that said December 17th between 4-5pm, helps alot. SE from what I have been told has a team reviewing each account manaually with all logs, which are not a couple pages it's several hundreds of pages each. And if they are saying it's into the thousands of accounts it's going to take some time, but those that did get hacked, be happy they are trying to do something about it. If this happened in 2006, you could just kiss your account goodbye.

Like many said before just be patient, they just started reviewing accounts last week.

Just to throw this out again..

STF said they go through 20-30 million lines a week...and that is just for the things they're looking for specifically..so I can promise you, like someone else said, the more detailed and accurate you are, the easier and more quicker you'll get it back and they can find it.

That sounds similar to my case. I got my account back and changed it back to my old credit card number but still got banned. I've talked to an ICS yesterday and was told they are trying to resolve the issue but couldn't tell me how long it would take.

Ohh I am not bashing SE or anything. Just posting my update. I fully understand that SE doesn't do anything quickly and I am expecting this to take while to resolve. Just figured some people might like to know how things are progressing.

On a similar topic - has anyone here had their password reset by SE? Does it force you to change it when you logon after SE changes it?

So your saying you were hacked, got your account back? Also did you have everything that was there before you realized you were hacked?

Honestly, I'd be a little surprised if SE returned all equipment and gil.

Not only because it would have an impact on the economy of the entire game but because I doubt SE has a way to legitimately track who had what gear and how much gil at the time of the theft.

Hell, people could say they had all sorts of rare/ex gear but that the hacker must have dropped all of the useless gear or NPC'd it when dealing with the rest of the gear.

I had a Ridill and an Armada Hauberk. No, really, the guy must have just NPC'd it or something.

And then when it comes to the economy, all of that old gil and the old gear is still out there. SE would effectively be duping items while the gilsellers sell off the gear and launder the gil. Theoretically, so much gil could come into the economy that it would undo a lot of SE's efforts of balancing the economy. And then you have all of the characters who were hacked coming back, buying things, selling thingsssss, etc., etc..

SE has a LOT to think about in doing this. I do however hope that everything gets resolved well for everyone in the end.
