I just had my account hacked, and after reading these fourms I'm hearing alot about this. So my question is how do I find this keylogger thing on my PC, I ran norton and it found only a low risk tracking cookie. Any help would be great.

Did you call SE? at the least get it locked - perhaps they can do something.

ya called them, but my friend forgot most of the info so they said they would freeze the account, and if anything it will get wiped ; ;

funny note the guy said if you really want to play buy another copy and start over... that was too funny!

You know what would be great? If we had a sticky that had all of the information about viruses/keyloggers nicely compiled for easy access.

Edit: You all can kiss my ***.

Trend Micro makes a good antivirus and has a free online scan that may find it.

Try using: http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/housecall

Good Luck and I hope you get this worked out.

Edit: well I guess I am a little late in posting I didn't see that you already got it removed till after I posted :( , I'm glad you removed the keyloger but its to bad you lost all your stuff.

I stamp this post with approval.

I had AVG and Norton on an old computer and ussual found nothing. When I bought a new laptop I bought the Trend Micro Internet Security package for multiple computers, ran it on the old pc, and found a juicy keylogger.

Ya... sadly I found out my firewall and norton didnt prevent this from happening. So this really sucks, well nothing I can do about it now it's in SE's hands now *shivers*

Not really from what you posted above, you didnt have all the information SE asked for to give you the account back...sounds like its in your hands.

Spybot Search & Destroy FTW! It's free and it works.

Also, I find it hard to believe the SE would require you to re-purchase the game again vs. just creating a new player. At any rate, if you had a keylogger on your computer that stole your credentials and lost your account as a result, it's tough ****. Just like the legal system, ignorance of the law is no excuse.

It's possible that SE might be starting to make a move to help people recover lost items and accounts. I wouldnt nessisarily hold your breath, but based on the recent RMT report, they may actually try and do something about it. but we'll see. dont give up completely yet.

Well ya, the address and birth day info was changed I didn't have the new info cause I'm not the one who hacked my account. So I couldn't have all the info they needed, so ya it's kinda in their hands to figure out what happened.

Gotta love "my account got hacked" threads the day that a STF report comes out, with a long list of bannings.

Coincidence? ......maybe.

Just an FYI, but I noticed a few people saying, "I have Norton and AVG..." on thier machine. There is a known conflict between these two that makes them essentially negate eachothers efforts. Dont run both at the same time. Others, like Kaperski (sp?), the one mentioned in the stickies, do not conflict with AVG. Also, Process Guard is your friend! Process Guard will let you choose what can and can not run, or even if you'll let it run sometimes and not others.

I use the following...

AVG anti-virus free edition
AVG Anti-Spy Ware Free Edition
PRocess Guard
SpyBot Search and Destroy
AD-Aware Personal free edition
Spy Blaster

and I occasionally install the trial Kaperski.

I update and scan weekly and anytime i notice a new virus/malware thing flying around the net. In fact, b/c i wouldnt let Real player boot each time I turned ffxi on (thank you process guard and personal loathing of real player) I even avoided the recent attack on FFXI info via real player. Since then, Real has been uninstalled, never to return :D

I will say this, I am ALWAYS taking jobs from my co-workers to clean viruses. They come to me with a Paid in full Norton and ask, "How can I have a trogen?" I take the drive home, drop it in my "work" machine and scan with AVG...LOL 5-10 Trogans almost every time! Norton and McCaffy both are worthless and give a very false sense of security ;; On the otherhand, if you work with me...please keep running Norton cuz those clean up are easy money :D (JK)

I usually don't post much but I just had to put my two cents in on this whole situation. If you are a legitimate player and got keylogged I am sorry to hear that, and I hope you get your account returned to you. Your post "ya called them, but my friend forgot most of the info" doesn't quite seem right to me for some reason.

1. Why would you need to ask your friend for your information?
2. Why would your friend even have your information?
3. Is it not possible at all that your "friend" did something to your account?
4. If your friend can access your account why couldn't he do something to get you banned?

Who knows you might be completely innocent and have perfectly good explanations for all four questions, but to me it seem like you were asking to have all of your stuff stolen.

Ya I took over my friends account, I played it more than he did. But the account was started in his name, just used my Card to pay for it. so the guys at SE told me to have him call, the account was hacked, some RMT group had the account and did something with it for a few hours till I tried to log in and found the password changed. Had them lock the account and waiting to hear more news about whats going on.

Ran scans on my PC during the whole keylogger scare and found nothing, never crossed my mind that norton would miss the keylogger. Sadly it did and they got my account, now I have no clue if i can get the account back. He is also looking for the book with his codes in it, if he can find that I'm sure we can fix this problem.

Well all I can say is you are lucky that you managed to get it locked so fast. Hopefully they didn't have enough time to completely drain everything from you. Just make sure that you can get as much information from your friend as you can. Original codes, credit card, address, password, from what I've read it should make the proccess much faster. Good luck getting him back!
