I was attempting to recall what exciting moments we had in previous "pre-expansion" events. I started playing WoW shortly after The Burning Crusade had gone live, so obviously missed that one, but the only one since then I recall that I found interesting, and a whole lot of fun, was the Scourge event that preceded Wrath of the Lich King.
I know a lot of people hated this event, but it was definitely different, and memorable.

So, here is a quick list of expansion events that I have been able to dig up:

The Burning Crusade

Wrath of the Lich King

Cataclysm

Mists of Pandaria

Warlords of Draenor so far has been pretty 'meh', event wise anyways. But it's only been a day.

edit: changed all links to Wowhead for consistency. Well, except for TBC..can't find one.

I've never really bothered with any of the pre-expac stuff. I remember the wotlk stuff was a pain.

In terms of pre-release breaking raiding, this is like 3.0 hitting. Even complete joke guilds are getting 14/14 mythic right now. Hell we 19 dps, 1 tanked, zero healed mythic siegecrafter this week. Which doesn't really matter since none of the content matters at this point. It is just frustrating seeing people trying to take how they perform at 90 and starting to create expectations at 100, and it is like lvl 30's jumping to conclusions about end game. Unless you were on the beta playing it at 100 don't bother.

WoD pre-expac gave us more than MoP's pre-expac did.

MoP was just a scenario with the Fall of Theramore and that was pretty much it. You did it once or twice, and yay, that's it. It was more of a tech demo of the Scenario system basically. Oh, and Pet Battles... did Pet Battles come before or after MoP's actual launch? I can't remember.

I want to say that they were after. I popped on to check the scenario but didn't do any pet battling, so I don't think it was live yet.
