Smite and DiscFollow

Ok folks I have been running as Disc using smite to heal. I am level 44, so still low end. My problem is that smite takes a long time to cast, and I was wondering how I could speed that up. I don't entirely understand haste mechanics, not that it would really matter as I am not getting tons of gear that has haste on it at this point.

Any ideas oh how to speed up my smites? I got that Borrowed Time Talent, but I have not really noticed a difference from it.

Divine Fury or Power Infusion.

Thanks Moz, but I am Disc, so I can't get Divine Fury until much later (level 44). I guess I will just have to suck it up using power infusion.

Will adding Haste to my gear help me with casting speed? I am guessing yes, but that it will take a LOT to see a real difference.

Well yes, you basically answered your own question. Smite without Divine Fury does suck, there's really no getting around it. If possible, you might want to get an on-use haste trinket to make your life a little bit easier.

Yup, it does take a lot of haste to see a difference, even in low levels. This is especially true considering haste is still not all that common on low level gear.

Smite does take some time to cast, but it shouldn't be too much of an issue unless people are taking a lot of damage, in which case forget casting Smite and start spamming shield and either greater heal or flash heal. If they aren't taking a lot of damage, but health is still dipping low enough to make you nervous, try keeping renew up on people, and continue casting smite. You should be fine then.

Still use Smite, just weave in PW:S. With FH for damage spikes. BT does make a difference.

Also a proper Smite macro makes life better:

#showtooltip Smite
/cast [exists,harm,nodead] Smite; [@targettarget,exists,harm,nodead] Smite; [@target] Heal

I usually just target the tank. Weave in PW:S, I use it mainly for Rapture in 5-mans, and use PoH for when DPS needs healing. You should have PoH at level 44, it is good stuff.

Horse... what does that macro even do?

I have been a bit cagey around macros for WoW as I have not been able to wrap my head around what they do. Does that target whatever the tank is targeting?

Thanks for the replies.

If you are targeting an enemy, it will cast Smite on it.

If you are targeting a player, it will cast Smite on whatever they are targeting (provided it's an enemy).

So if you are targeting the tank, you'll smite his target.

Also casts Heal on my target if Smite isn't a valid option. So I can just relax and mash the same button to victory if I want to be lazy.

Thanks! That explains it. I will have to play with that a bit and see if I can make that work for other spells.
