I'm an 85 hunter and 1 of my pets is actin' a fool.

I tamed a spider that I mostly use in PvP situations, however, it seems that my spider is bugged or seems bugged at times.

Under my portrait, my spiders portrait says 'unknown.' Sometimes it attacks, other times it just runs beside me. He's set to aggressive so he should in theory attack. I try to send him into battle by clicking the attack button, but nothing, he just runs behind me or next to me. The only solution I have is to dismiss the spider and bring out another pet. None of my other pets suffer or have suffered this.

Is this a known bug or has anyone had similar issues with any pets, or spiders in particular?

Thanks.

I have not had this issue with my spider, what spider did you tame? Have you tried abandoning and retaming one?

I do have a friend whose spider has been untargetable for a while. Not sure when it started, or if it's just a spider thing.

Hers uses the basic green skin (not the furry one).

Definitely a bug, try dismissing and resummoning it, stabling it and then summon it again and try taming the same spider (same mob, to be specific) to figure out if it's a one time weirdness, your pet is bugged or the mob is bugged. Then send a ticket with what you found out to Blizz so they can fix it.

I use a Black Widow spider. I'll try to abandon and re-tame. Will try it later today/tonight and will post results.

Update:

So I abandoned the spider I had tamed and went back to re-tame a new one. After I had tamed the new one, the pet portrait under my name says spider, now worries right? Wrong! I mounted and left the area, upon dismount when the pet reappears, same issue. The pet portrait says 'unknown'

I presume that maybe this was meant to be an untameable(sp?) creature or that Blizz missed it because it's a pet that's not rare but only spawns in a basement of 1 house, therefor it has been overlooked.

In that case, keep the pet for a bit and write a ticket with everything you've found out so Blizzard knows about the bug.

I know this probably speaks to my lack of intellect, but does anyone else think it is funny that there is a spider bug?

Sorry I know I am a dork.

Which Black Widow in particular did you tame? I'll try and go out today and see if it happens to me.

Twilight highlands, dwarven village. Look for the house with the cobwebs.
It might be because it's spawned as you enter or something.

You have to engage the big mother spider, after you kill her the Black Widows will become targetable and tamable.

Blizzard just said they have no knowledge of any bugs in regards to the black widows and I should reset my UI. The then included instructions on how to do so. I have yet to do it because I don't want to reset all my settings and such.

Thanks to everyone who offered input and suggestions and good luck with this bug (both pet and otherwise) if you decide to get it.

They always tell you to do that first, if that doesn't help they tell you to run the repair program.
It's like the "is your device plugged in?" type of question for a technical helpdesk, stupid as **** but it clears out half of the problems.

Interestingly I had this same issue long before WotLK. Funnily enough I did pinpoint it down to my interface/addons.
Necro Warning: This post occurred more than thirty days after the prior, and may be a necropost.
