Who can help me analyze my combat logs?Follow

#1 Apr 11 2011 at 2:16 PM Rating: Good
The last couple weeks I've started recording combat logs for our raid. Mostly so I can figure out what's wrong with my rotation. I do okay. Right now I've got the best gear of our dps and I'm usually at the top, but I still feel like the dps numbers could be higher. Especially when I compare myself to other Boomkins in the guild, or look at the 10 man normal numbers on the "State of DPS" site.

I know Brisin is the only other Boomkin here who posts regularly, but if he or anyone else could help me figure what I could do better, I'd really appreciate it.

I even put the dates in the order everyone else does, since most of you guys aren't American. =x

Not an expert by any means but just from casually looking you seem to have low DoT uptime. Highest I've seen on the couple kills I checked were a bit over 80%.

DoT uptime should be no lower than 90% especially with the changes to DoT refresh mechanics in Cata.

Could of used Starfall an extra time on at least one of the kills I looked at as well.

That's weird, I looked at Recount's data for DoT uptime and clicked on my bar for the breakdown, and it looked like the numbers added up to nearly 100%. That was for overall data for the whole night though, so I guess it wasn't that accurate. I do try hard to keep my DoTs up, sometimes I forget for a short while when there's a particularly hectic part of the fight going on. This last week I definitely was not on my A game. I was pretty tired, and had a lot going on in the back of my mind from the DV shelter training. I was particularly getting frustrated during V&T and Council, partly because it was later on in the evening, and partly because those fights are pretty hectic.

Where are you seeing 64k DPS Maz? O.o

NVM, I see it. That's raid DPS, and I was a dork and forgot to turn combat recording off after the raid was over. So the heroic a few of us did after the fact got recorded too. =x

Taking a look at it. I'm gonna assume you know rotations and etc, so I will check if there is some minor detail.

Hmm...you didnt use Mushrooms on Magmaw? You really should. In fact, try hard to be on solar when the adds spawn. Use mushrooms and sunfire in every add then mushrooms again. That should kill adds if your raid is at least regular. It's hard to be on solar everytime there are adds incoming, but doable.

Other than that, keep dots always up on Magmaw, even when the head is down, unless eclipse is a 2 casts away. That should get you more uptime on it. Your uptime is not bad, but not good either. 82% with Moonfire/Sunfire and 79% with IS is not bad. Just not great.

Well, you used mushrooms on Omnotron...did you forgot to use them on Magmaw? =p

Omnotron has a few tricks, too. When the bosses are about to switch, you can actually refresh your dots. It will not consume the shield. Just remember to be quick.
Check for when the Toxitron adds are coming and place your mushroons beforehand. They usually come from the one of the hands of the boss (forgot if right or left). Again, be on Solar Eclipse when they come. You can time it when you have enough experience with the fight.
Do you have the Focus Glyph? I usually use it for this fight. This way, you can always use Starfall, just have to be near the bosses.

Maloriak...hmm...don't use Hurricane, really. Just drop it from your bar. Mushroom + Sunfire is the way to go with adds and aoe. When you get to the second vial, time it so when you get to the green vial you are in Solar. It's pretty doable, just have to check dbm timers. There's not much happening in this fight for a moonking to worry, so you can be really carefull with your rotation and timing.
As soon as you see the green vial warning, run to the back of the room while casting Mushrooms. As soon as the tanks got the adds there, detonate it, Trinkets+Starfall (I usually macro it), Sunfire everything and cast mushrooms on cooldown.
Your dot uptime is really low on this fight. Around 75%ish. This fight is really easy to have almost 100% uptime, so you should work on that.

Atramedes....from what I see, you are doing it just good. Well, at least concerning dps. Dots uptime are almost perfect, above 90% on Moonfire/Sunfire and above 80% on IS. You could work a bit on IS uptime, but as long as you keep that percentage you should be just fine. It's preferable to recast Sunfire/Moonfire than to recast IS. I'm assuming that is happening because you are recasting it during air phase and not recasting IS. It's fine that way. A surviving tip: use Barsking when Searing Flame is coming. Can be the diference between life and death.

Chimi...not much to say. Try to use mushrooms when you are moving to stack for AoE healing on feud and cast it when you are on solar. But that should be a minor increase. Again, your dots uptime are not good. This is pretty much a tank/spank fight for dps. You should have near 100% on Moonfire/Sunfire and above 90% on IS.

Conclave...it all depends on wich platform you are at. The one that spawn adds, same old, same old. Mushrooms, Solar Eclipse, Sunfire, etc. The one that has the gales...well, you wont have much dps there. Just keep your dots, cast Moonfire/Sunfire when you have to move or when he is casting his ultimate. And place mushrooms while he is casting his ultimate and detonate it when you are in Solar Eclipse.

Halfus...well, it depends on the composition of dragons. It will pretty much be a tank/spank fight for you. Only concern is when you can move out of fire you should and when you have little adds, kill them with aoe rotation (mushrooms+sunfire). My group usually kill 3 drakes. Last time I dpsed, we didnt had the little adds and I did around 36k dps. As long as you have 3 drakes down, you should do a lot of damage to Halfus. Save trinkets and Starfall for that moment. I had one star criting halfus for around 40k ish. So...a lot. Keep dots on Halfus all the time and try to keep it on all the dragons the longer you can. GrayMatter talks about Multi-doting bosses, you can check his blog if you want. Rule of thumb: if you have more than 1 boss on the fight, dot everything and keep dots up.

Same rule about Multi-doting goes for Valiona/Theralion. They are both targetable throughout the hole fight. Keep dots on both bosses and you should see a dps increase. Well, I think you are already doing that, since I see IS with 190 ticks...
Other than that, minor details and a little bit of randomness. If you get the debuff on Theralion phase you will have a lot more dps than if you dont. Remember to cast Moonfire/Sunfire whenever you move (transition phase, stacking part on phase one, moving out of stuff on phase 2). Your dot uptime is perfect on this fight, btw. Above 90% on both dots is just the way to do it. Only 1 problem. For some reason, you had way more Moonfires than Sunfires. That's...odd. It should be around the same thing, with Moonfire having just a bit more of hits. Probably because of the multi-doting thing. Maybe you were not refreshing the other boss during Solar Eclipse?

I never dpsed the Council, just healed, so I might be off here. I dont have much to say other than what I already said, multi-dot bosses and use all your CDs on phase 1 and phase 3. Phase 2 is more of a surviving phase than a dps one. It's more critical to get both bosses with the same health than to have your dps skyrocketing, so, really, don't worry about dps on this boss.

I guess that's it.

I mainly play a shaman (ailidrae) and a dk (ailideath). Of course most of the time I run in guild or randoms, so its not like we would have hung out...not since the dungeon finder anyway. I'm currently in The Knights Templars guild. Old guild were Naby and For the Overmind. My old main was Ailitardif (waelock), since vanilla, so maybe there. Oh and on alliance side as well.

Anyway, don't see too many on here from same server, so I thought id say hi.

Yeah...dont remember pugging anything with you. I do know your guild, though. Well, at least I remember pugging with some of them.

There used to be someone around here from my old server, we were even in the same guild and didn't know it. (Minions of Fate from Anachronos EU) It's weird when you see stuff like that. I only realised we were from the same server/guild after I moved to Kazzak to play with Aeth and Maz

Thanks Brisin. I don't know why the logs aren't showing me using Mushrooms during Magmaw to be honest. O.o At least this last week anyways. The week before, and the week before that we were trying a different strat where our DK off tank just kited all the adds, and DPS focused fire on Magmaw. They specifically told us not to dps the adds at all, so I didn't. =x

Sounds like the main thing I need to work on is my DoT uptime. That's definitely doable, and I have trackers up for that. Both DoTimer for multi tracking and Power Auras for my target. I tend to get a bit scatter brained when I get stressed out during raids, and sometimes I forget to keep an eye on my timers, so I'll have to work on that. Thanks. :-)

If you use tidyplates you can put your DoTs on them.

You are welcome.

And, yeah, what Horse said. Been a while since I last dpsed (I'm mostly healing in my 10 man group), but tidyplates really helped me with that.

I do have Tidy Plates, and I think I figured out how to get my DoTs up on them before, but for some reason weren't showing again the last couple weeks. Probably due to the name changes. I'll have to go back and fix that.
