I can spend all my time wandering the web and not get time to play, or ask you guys.

These are really basic questions - I think....

I'm still using my original kitty - (night elf L65) and I'm kinda fond of him, but I've been reading the forums about pets and wonder if I should try branching out - once I figure out how....

Do you always have to catch/tame a wild pet - or is thee somewhere you can buy them?

Are all beasts/monsters fair game for pets? What about the named ones (usually the badasses you hit on the last quest in a set)?

Does the new pet begin at the level he was at when trapped? I'd hate to try to force a low level beastie up 65 levels - if its even possible...

There's probably more but I don't know enough to ask the questions...

You cannot buy pets, you simply have to tame them.

Most all pets are fair game to tame, just use the "Beast Lore" ability and it will tell you if its tameable.

The pet will retain its level ONLY if its close to your level, but your pet will NEVER be more than 3 levels below you. So you will only have to level him for a short time before he has caught up to you.

Any beast that would be involved with a quest wouldn't be tamable.

All pets will now be at your level when they are tamed. No more having to level pets.

A lot of good hunter info can be found in the FAQ's thread in these forums.

Not necessarily true--there are plenty of tamable quest-related beasts (like Hell Hoot) including some that can only be tamed during quests (though the exact mechanics vary, with some being summoned, some locking out due to phasing, that sort of thing).

Ollamnh, I'd recommend http://wow-petopia.com/ as a good place to get started. It's a nice, simple way to look up the various tamable pets by family or level or appearance or what have you, and there's a bit of general information on hunter pets as well.

No,as of 4.1 you pets will become your level when you tame them and will be your level whenever you level. This allows hunters to not have to deal with leveling their pets just like everyone else who can have a pet.

I didn't realise they changed how pets level with you in the patch. Nice. :)
