After hearing about the "8 exciting new pets" from Blizzard I was pretty excited. The idea of a new variety of rare pets with the special mechanic's to tame them was pretty exciting for once. Then I took a look at the pets and dissapointment set in. http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=11629

3 spirit beast (icluding another cat) and 5 spiders. I don't mind the new spirit beasts, as long as they were actually new. With all the beasts roaming Azeroth why would they choose spirit beasts that there are already models of? And did they really need 5 of them to be different colored spiders?

I think this was a great chance for Blizzard to do something really fun, new, and exciting for hunters and I really feel they missed the mark on this one.

I glanced through that thread and it sounded like the only thing they said in order to tame some things was either, take your armor off, or throw a freezing/ice trap....which good hunters do already. I don't see how this creates "special mechanics" to tame them, granted I haven't watched the tame videos, but it sounds kind of bleh anyways.

It looks like the trick with the ice trap one is that you can't leave it trapped for too long--it'll die. So a hunter who doesn't know already how to approach it may have trouble.

I definitely think it's lame that they added another cat spirit beast. The popularity of cats as hunter pets is rather aggravating to me, although I understand it has a lot to do with the buff which they share with spirit beasts. So there being more than one cat spirit beast is just stupid and redundant.

The spiders though, I really like. It would have been nice if they had done something more than reskin the same spider several times, but at least each spider has a different unique ability. I think that's really awesome, and it's something that people seem to be forgetting.

I'm not let down, just unimpressed and uninterested. Some spiders and some more spirit beasts that aren't any better looking that the ones we already have (unless you want a bird.)

I miss pre-homogenization pets.

Sure, the buffs are great, but it took away some of the "bonding" experience with your pet. Snuggles, Fluffynoodles and Irwith are now DPS, DPS and Mitigation instead.

Agreed. Over time my pets have gone from being my friends and companions to being buff bots.

Not that anything has really changed that much, it just seems different now for some reason. Maybe I'm just jaded this many years later.

Hell they aren't really even buff bots anymore with the fact that homogenized pretty much all raid wide buffs. Hunters are pretty much the only class that doesn't bring something that someone else can't already bring, or that is already better.

Well, we only do 10-mans, and I think there's at most one time that there wasn't even one buff slot open. On the other hand, this means that 2/3 of the time or so, I'm bringing a Ravager, who I only have around for tactical reasons (although just through the constant forced association, I'm getting used to the little *******).

I really do miss the pets pre-homogenization as well. I remember when certain pets were badges of honor.

And the real problem is that none of this has gotten rid of cookie cutter pets. Now the Hunter can choose raid dps over personal dps if applicable. But there's still a best pet for your spec...

Agreed, we usually have most buffs I tend to bring a Ravager or Wind Serpent depending on if we are physical or caster heavy.

Just got Call Pet 3. Already have a cat (Fluffy) and a spider (Legsy). So what do I want for #3. Thinking about returning to Blackfathom Deeps solo just long enough to kidnap Ghamoo-Ra

Get a fox or a mastiff! Preferably the latter, because they have the better ability.

I'd recommend a tank pet of some sort. From what I've been told, it's good to have a tank pet for some situations. Only issue I have with tanking pets, is that there aren't any pretty ones until Warp Stalkers at level 55 in Winterspring. So I've got a turtle on my hunter for now. :-) A gorilla would be really cool too.

Meh. Crocs are completely unappealing to me. But three more levels and I can try and find this guy.

Man, I remember when Gorillas were super OP for tanking.

Good times.

Tank pets are meh. If your cat can't tank it, you're better off using your cat anyway and just kiting the mob.

I would assume 8 since they are called "shale spiders."

Then they're not arachnids! <3

Be right back, going to tame that spider in Deepholm.

:D That was my feeling on the matter. I have a strict policy against anything with more than 4 legs.
