Yet another returning player...Follow

#1 Jul 09 2012 at 2:21 AM Rating: Decent
Hey all, I'm returning to the game after a two-year hiatus, and I'm looking for an open social LS with friendly members who're willing to give an occasional hand to a relative noob. In the immediate future I'm looking to get the 2nd limit break quest done, and start collecting my PLD AF set. I know the rules have changed quite a bit over the years for PLDs, so anyone who'd be willing to give me advice on getting back into the swing of things would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

As someone whose only job at 99 is PLD, I can tell you we're not as accepted as we once were. It's virtually impossible for PLD to tank in Abyssea due to the fact that melees can hit the hate cap so easily. However, that doesn't make us entirely useless.

My best advice to you is keep your weapons skilled up (sword, great sword, staff, club, even dagger and polearm), and consider leveling Dancer as a subjob. As far as an LS goes, I believe Shadowsong has one for new/returning players. They'll probably be along shortly to offer you a pearl. Smiley: smile

Yeah, I'd heard something to that effect. It'd be nice if the upcoming expansion and new jobs would make PLD a more viable endgame job. I've dabbled in a few others but haven't found one I enjoy as much as PLD. Plus I miss the shiny armor.

I've heard that DNC makes a good sub for PLD, but I've never understood how that works. Why does DNC work better than WAR? Or is it a situational thing? Oh, and thanks for the reply Ralrra! I think I remember you from Garuda back in the day, though we never actually spoke. Giant Galka in shiny armor right?

Yep, just like everything else in this game, it's situational. DNC uses TP to heal & debuff; Drain Samba & Curing Waltz help you stay alive for longer than just Cure spells alone, and there are Steps & Flourishes to enfeeble your enemies. You'll also get Spectral Jig for sneak/invis, but it didn't get the increased duration like the spells did.

I do Campaign once a week to maintain my Medal of Altana, and as PLD/DNC, I can usually hold 3-5 of the regular Campaign mobs at once. It also helps that I can toss out a Curing Waltz on either PCs or NPC, since your actions in Campaign determine how much EXP & Allied Notes you get.

Back on Garuda my name was Caliburn. I wound up changing it to Darian after the merge. It worked out well, actually. I was tired of getting mail meant for the guy in Windurst. What he needed that Savage Loincloth for I will never know... And for which I am eternally grateful. The not knowing, I mean. Not the Loincloth!

Hey Hey,
Yes, my LS is quite returning-player friendly, and it seems all I do now is assist returning players.
You can hit me up whenever for a pearl, or advice.
Ralrra hit all the good (read: bad) points about PLD nowadays
