I just got my Alchemy and Inscription to 525 and didn't farm a single herb. Spent about 11,000g total but quickly made back lots of gold just selling the good items I leveled off. Some elixirs and scrolls werent worth much, but I sold 5 flasks for 1290g. I posted a blue off-hand on the AH for 3500g. Lots of gems posted, uncut around 110-180g each, probably 20 of them. Also have a puregold bar I placed on the AH for 2000g which sold quickly.

I figure I spent 11,000g leveling both professions, but I'll make back about 6000g in sales and now I have both professions to 525. So in the end that's an acceptable price to me. Now I can transmute puregold bars daily as transmute spec, costs about 700g to craft and they sell for 1650-2000g on my AH right now. And I've switched my inscription over to Blackfallow Ink. I figure each ink is worth 30g, so glyphs cost me 90g to make now. But Inferno Ink is worth 210g and I write those off as a cost of doing Glyph business. So I'm stockpiling Infernos to make all the 4 epic trinkets. My plan is to roughly break even by mass producing glyphs, then make my profit with Inferno inks by making all 4 epic trinkets.

Next up is Jewelcrafting. I got to 490, doing my dailies now, but putting it on the backburner as I do dailies and buy more cuts. I can make metas on my Alchemist who I think will stay transmute spec. Depending how well Puregold bars sell, I might powerlevel my 2nd alchemist. If I can make 500-1000g a day off a transmute, I'll do it again this week.

Just posting to say the AH is viable if you see your profession as an investment. Takes a fair bit of startup gold, but many professions at 525 have a way of rapidly making it back and then some if you're creative. Depends on your server too of course.

I knew early in the expansion, mats would be expensive. I'm spending around 60-95g for stacks of cheap herbs, up to 200g per stack of expensive ones. Stacks of ore are 200g. So there is absolutely gold to be made gathering, I always knew that. But I was more curious about, can I make gold crafting at 525? Is it worth it to drop 5-7k on a profession and can I make it back quickly? The answer in my case was yes. Alchemy can earn back 6k in a matter of days selling off flasks and puregold. Inscription will take a little longer but I see massive potential in darkmoon cards. I'm excited to transmute metas on my alchemist then learn the cuts on my jewelcrafter.

I have 2 professions to 525 now, my goal is to get 2x transmute alchemists, 525 JC, inscription, maybe blacksmithing. And as I make greens with those professions to level, I'm sending them to my enchanter and I'll slowly level that as well. Even with high cost of materials there is lots of room to profit especially if you hit the 525 cap.

Good to know. Some people just firesale off their goods from leveling professions. The big place i noticed this was in elixirs. If you plan on ever using elixirs or potions for raiding, even heroics, have a look on the AH now. Many of them were 1-3g each. At those prices instead of selling mine, I just bought the cheap ones and sent them to some of my alts. If I can't make anything back I'll just use them. Green cut gems I'm trying to AH between 30-70g and I'll probably sell half eventually, but there will come a point where I just vendor the rest I bet. Some elixirs that I'll probably never use (spirit, expertise etc..) I just ate the loss and sold at 1-2g like everyone else. Better to just have them out of my bags. Yeah I lost gold there, but at 525 I spent 700g to make a truegold bar and sold it for 2000g within hours.

Leveling JC is....interesting. I can't say what I spent there yet because I bought so much ore, easily 5000g worth and prospected it. I'm keeping a 20 stack of every green gem uncut just so I can do dailies and I'll keep it topped off. As I prospect in the future and get MORE green gems, I'll sell them uncut for 50g each hopefully. And of course I'm sitting on a huge stockpile of uncut blue gems now, just waiting to buy patterns. I can buy one every 3 days, but I also want 2 of the best meta cuts, and I might dabble in the rings/necklace markets. So the plan there is just do my daily every single day, within 2 months I'll have a decent selection of cuts.

On my server you can pretty much profit by just prospecting elementium ore at 200g/stack and selling everything UNCUT on the AH for max prices. Nightstones are worth 100g+. Many uncut rares are worth 90-120g. The worst uncut greens are 30g and if you sell at the right time you can get 45+, and the mid level ones are about 45-65g.

Once you learn some cuts and can turn those 110g rares into cuts worth 225+ you can really rake in the gold.

I can see meta gems being very expensive, you need 3 of every uncut green gem. 3 nightstones alone is 330g. I'd say an uncut meta is worth 900g+, I can see cuts going for over 1200g.

Took about 5k to get my alchy from 480 to 525 this morning although none of the stuff I leveled with was demonstrating any sell value on the AH so far. Got the stuff I need for the truegold xmute though and that bodes to be a money maker - here's hoping I can score that mythical five-proc on the x-mute come midnight.

I've had terrible luck with transmutes so far, and the profit margin on transmuting truegold has dropped big time since I made the post. Funny how the market changes so rapidly in like a week at the beginning of an expansion. I feel like if I dont stay on top of it everyday, I fall behind quickly.

To make money early in an expansion when prices are volatile you really need to buy quick, sell quick and get out. Recalculate profits constantly based on ever changing prices. My biggest risk I'm taking right now is sinking tens of thousands of gold into darkmoon cards, hoping I can sell the trinkets at around 25k in the early new years. Its a big risk, might pay off might not, but kinda fun..I have nothing else to do with my gold anyways lol.

I will say my pre-expansion ink stash payed off in a huge way, at least 40-50k profit from glyphs since 4.0+. I knew the market would be big, but how big I had no idea. At the time of writing this it costs me about 75g to make glyphs. Prior to 4.0 it cost me about 12-15g. I've sold over 100 glyphs a day at average price of 93g. I came into the expansion with 2 of every glyph, some of them as many as 10 stocked in my bags, and about 1800 inks (600 glyphs). The glyphs I had in my bag I crafted as low as 3g because thats how little it used to cost to craft them in mid-wotlk.

So I have all this gold I'm just taking silly risks. No luck on truegold right now but I've proc'd quite a few metas. If I had more time I might level another JC but I keep sinking gold into herbs and volatiles for darkmoon cards and I can hardly keep up with the amount of milling/ink trading I need to do on a daily basis, let alone posting all my glyphs daily, making cards, recrafting glyphs and you know, actually playing my main character (still level 83, sigh)

I still owe you thanks for the truegold suggestion - I'd scored a stack of, uhm, whatever that metal is you use to make it fairly cheap over the weekend in anticipation of earning some money off the gold - the market's since tanked while the cost of that metal went from high teens to about half the current cost of the truegold - I think the raw mats are already worth more then the gold - think I'm just gonna earn cash xmuting elements for now.

Alch is one of those profs I can easily see slipping away to just a few hundred gold a day, but still decent. And a proc can bump that up to 1700-5000g if you're lucky. As long as there is some profit on truegold (say 50-100g) its worth doing since a single proc is like 1400g in your pocket and a 5x proc would just be ridiculous.

Find average sale price of truegold throughout the week it seems steady at 1400g now. Then buy the mats in bulk when they are cheap.

Alch is decent I am toying with the idea of respecing elixir mastery when raiding really starts to pick up. Will have to see what the flask market is like.

Transmutes have been serving me well - though honestly my big cash cow right now has been just plain herbalism. I'm sell stacks of Whiptail for 200-250 each, and most others are still easily in the hundreds.

But the Volatile Life is where it's really at, even after the hot fix they are still going for 10g each. In just two days I made enough money to max out enchanting on an alt, purchase epic flying skill, and buy 333 iLevel gear for my off spec.

I'm executing a "hold" on truegold, which I might even switch to "buy and hold". I believe that, on my server at least, crafting has not caught up to alchemy since the recipes are gated and the customer base isn't raiding yet, thus no demand for the highest-level crafted items.

Remember, each truegold takes a shared cooldown (so no pyrium or transmuting elements), so resupply is not going to be quick or easy if demand spikes. I'm hoping that frustration with the current sinking price incentivizes other alchemists to not stockpile so that there comes a day when I'm holding the only ready supply.

I got my bankers on both factions to 500 enchanting and I'm doing well buying cataclysm greens for up to 20g each and disenchanting into hypnotic dust, etc. I buy for disenchant at a 50% profit level and buy tradegoods for resale at 25% of market value. Between de and buying tradegoods via auctioneer snatch, I'm easily over 1k per day AH profit.

The markets may change, but the methods still work.
