I always understood it as meaning the winning number is the one that wins the jackpot - not the only number drawn.

It's too bad though that someone felt the NPC story of Maat would encourage lots of similar guessing because Maat only said he'd pick one number.

Like others said, I don't see any problem as SE was kind enough to do this. Though there might have been some discrepency in how things were repeatedly worded over the weeks showing us this game, I had np knowing what they were going to do.

Congrats to all the winners!
Okay.

Guys, I know you're complaining because you had some of the digits right in the 5 digit prize number, and that's a bummer, but technically them picking 5 numbers doesn't give you a disadvantage. It may have been misleading, but it doesn't change the odds any. (I didn't win big, either, just a rank 4 prize)

But I don't know any NA people who won. Funny, I figured I'd see shouting.
rip off or not poll?

you have to give the winning marble to the mog for exchange for your prize, so if they only picked one # someone with the winning # wouldnt get all rank prizes they would only get 1 cuz you already gave your winning marble to the mog. thats what i dont get why they didnt choose 1 #. oh and has anyone else thought about how many rmt's played and won??!!

I do agree that this looks like a big conspriarcy. Everyone I know thoguht the same thing.....one number. Just one.

But, lets just remember one little thing.... SE owns all rights to anything having to do with this game. There was no contract. They are under no obligation to do a damn thing for any one of us except make sure the game runs. They don't HAVE to even give us new material in the game.

Bottom line is....don't fret over what coulda/shoulda/woulda/maybe/kinda/me me me me me. It really doesn't matter. Sure we didn't get **** after getting our hopes up. That's life.

I wouldn't have minded a rank 4 prize for a behemoth hide. I imagine with the large influx of them that the price should go way down.
I was so close to wining rank 3.

Hmm i was thinking i would log on here and see like 10 ppl claiming they won the jackpot or at least close. I didn't get a chance to play since my account didn't get "recovered" till the day after the event (how convenient). But anyways congrats to all who won!

out've all my characters I think I came up with about 10 Rank 5 winners and 1 rank 4 winner.

The original context was misleading. It does sound like they'd only pick one number. It's obvious why they didn't, then a person would ***** that he won all 5 ranks instead of just rank 1. However, you have to trade your marble in to receive the prize for it, and after he traded his rank 1 marble in he wouldn't have it anymore to trade for the other 4, so maybe 1 number would be better afterall. Personally I don't care either way, because if they only picked the 5 number combo, i would not only lose my 10 exp scrolls and behemoth hide, but i wouldn't win anything new either.

Ya know, just suck it up, they didn't have to run this lottery in the first place. You'll all get your fair chunk of that 6 or 7 billion gil when the economy inflates and farmed item prices skyrocket... you'll just have to work for it, as usual.

out of 12 marbles I won 2 rank5 and 1 rank4 no pretty sweet stuff though. I only got 12 cuz i didn't have room at the time and forogt to get the other 8 on my main cahracter =(

"I've been waiting a long time for something exciting like this to come along.
I doubt a young whippersnapper like you will understand, but when you get to my age and have seen all there is to see, nothing really gets your heart pumping anymore.
What? Want to know how I'll pick my numbers, eh?
Actually, I intend to pick only one. I don't know what that number is yet, but I'm sure it'll reveal itself when it's good and ready. The rest I leave to fate.
I have a feeling a lot of young'uns looking for ways to better their chances won't be satisfied with my answer.
Sorry to disappoint! Heh heh heh… "

No, they didn't. That section was added to show us what tactics those NPCs would use to win. Maat would only choose 1 number, even though he would be able to choose 10.

Price: 1000 gil.
Mog Bonanza marbles available for purchase from May 16 till May 28.
The winning numbers will be announced on June 30.
Prizes available for collection from July 2 till July 31.

* The winning number will be randomly determined in a strictly supervised process.
* Employees of Square Enix, Square Enix Inc. and Square Enix Ltd. and their relatives are forbidden from participating in the Mog Bonanza.

That's what's been a tad annoying, had I known that...I might have let the moogles pick more than a few for me since I played two numbers 5xeach thinking I'd have a larger choice of prizes if I nailed at least a few of the ONE number they were supposed to pick. As it is, with the random for all ranks, I got nothing. Had it been based off the grand prize number I'd have won a tier 3 prize and a tier 1 or 2, can't remember offhand.

They contradicted themselves and you leaned towards the wrong one. It makes sense that they would pick a different number for each rank though, having a first prize winner winning every rank would be ridiculous.

it's pretty obvious that, in a lottery, you automatically win the highest prize your numbers get you. No one would ever expect you to be able to claim the 2nd, 3rd,...., and even the consolation prize after winning the jackpot.

so it doesn't make any sense to say:

Quote:

it's just not a proper reason for choosing different numbers for each rank.

On the other hand, choosing only 1 number seems more logical/fair. Say the winning number is 12345, and if you had something like 32345, then you were very close so you should deserve a slightly lesser prize rather than "oh the rank2 prize number is *9876, i'm sorry you're way off, you dun deserve anything"

1) 56 Grand prize winners? With a 1/100,000 chance to choose the right number, does 56 winners sound absurdly high? Did 56 ppl pray to Bruce Almighty for the winning number?
2) A few within my circle of friends online are exceptionally critical and skeptical of SE, so much so that they are confident SE would not award a winning number to anyone from NA. I don't exactly buy into this conspiracy theory, but once you hear it, it does stay back there in the brain.

The rules were to pick a five-digit number to play. Why did SE pick numbers with 1 through 5 digits? If the five digit number was "47396", Rank 1 prize would be "47396", and Rank 4 prize should've been "-7396", not "1017". Why did they change the rules the day of the drawing? Is there something that I missed?

I agree, kinda confused me to. I thought there was going to be ONE number picked with the rank 2-5 prizes being based off that number as well, as in your example. They obviously picked a number for each rank, though I don't understand why. I don't think any of my numbers on my main or 2 mules won anything. T.T

Guess u haven't played the real lottery, In the case where its just one number and u got it, you will get the highest rank prize for that number. At least by them doing a drawing for all ranks it gives a person a chance to win multiple rank prizes. But yeah it was totally mis-leading making every1 think it was gonna be just one number..... /welcome to the gayness of the people behind SE.

If you play your local lottery and get for example 10/10 of the winning numbers, you'll win the grand prize jackpot of course. You will not win the jackpot and every other prize level. That's just common sense. ^.o

I don't think it will hurt the economy much. But, that would depend on how many of the 56 grand prize winners are on each server.
