FFXI Hits 400,000 Subscribers

I thought I would pass this on to everyone. This is not an officially endorsed figure, but reliable sources have told us that Final Fantasy XI now has over 100,000 English speaking subscribers and 300,000 Japanese speaking subscribers, for a total of more than 400,000 worldwide. If I recall the figures from other games correctly, this places FFXI just behind Everquest in total subscribers.

if your talking world wide then EQ and Final fantasy are way behind. Lineage: the bloodpledge and MU online have millions of asians playing it.

Everquest only holds the record for the game with the most subscribers in the US, not world wide.

I dont see the problem with everquest anyway. I have played it for more then 3 and a half years now and still like it... but i also like other games. I have played pretty much all the main MMORPG's as well as some smaller ones. Though I do have to say Star Wars gets old fast.

I dont see how the game is different from how it is now and how it was when Varent was running the show. If anyone would like to prove me wrong please reply, but just saying a game sucks just because is stupid. Its like saying The backstreet boys suck cause you dont listen to their music... i dont really like them but that doesnt mean they suck now does it? they would have to have some talent to make it that far anyway... just a thought though

You can't compare numbers with the Korean games. As a rule, Koreans don't play at home. They play in internet gaming parlors. Thus, they count subscribers differently. Basically anyone who ever played even a single hour of lineage at an internet game parlor is considered a lineage subscriber, even though they are not actually making any money off of them.

Everyone cheering that EQ is going down to FFXI, and down with Sony! Ignoring the fact that Sony owns a small chunk of Square-Enix.

Hence the key word here is SMALL part. I assure you Square/Enix will never sell out to Sony like verant did! They are giants in there own fields.

Last i checked sony owned part of EA there for the only thing SOE has part in are things that are Square-EA products, Since squareenix is completely seperate from its joint projects with EA, SOE owns nothing of this game except the rights they bought from Square to have this game made for their system.

As for the amount of subscribers i would say the number is accurate, Square released over 200,000 units of this game in north america , and 3 times that in the last year in Japan.

In closing.... DOWN WITH SOE....

Wanna hear something funny? SOE does the tech supports and hosts the servers for FFXI. So if you are saying down with SOE, you are saying down with FFXI ;)

EQ = evil

As far as the round numbers, I think that generally means they have at LEAST that many.

As nice as this sounds, generally I'm a bit wary of nice round numbers like this. I hope the game is as successful as they make it out to be, and that this isn't just spin. Is this REALLY subscribers, or perhaps units shipped? I'd love to see more official numbers.

I agree. I'm pretty open when it comes to multi players. Ever since the disapointment I got from Star Wars Galaxies, I been extra critical. I enjoy the game so far. I hope it continues. =)

Down with Everquest!! Thats what they get for letting Sony take over the show. Its time for them to see how it feels to get screwed. =D

But did anyone hear what the board administrator said?????

SOE runs the behind the scene action on FFXI. SOE also runs EVERQUEST. Sony is a major shareholder in Square/Enix. Sony owns a little over 20% stock in the company. In fact Square and Enix had to go to SONY for approval for the merger.

They are in denial :)

Personally I have to hand it to sony, they know how to play their cards.

Well I tell you what, if Sony were to ever take over this game, I'll be canceling my account just as I did with EQ. Sony is the corruptor of online games. Look what they did with Planes of Powers! Verant would of NEVER done that! To make weapons that drop in planes better than "Epic's"! Whats the point? Not even the old planes offered such "godly" weapons. You can basiclly buy droppable epic's, instead of doing one of those pain in the **** quest for one. Its just not worth it anymore.

I should of know SWG would of been a disaster after what they did with EQ, and EQII looks like the same ol'game with a new face. We'll see ...
