SQUARE ENIX ANNOUNCES FINAL FANTASY® XI EXPANSION – CHAINS OF PROMATHIA™ 500,000 Players Await the Latest Expansion, Scheduled For Simultaneous Release In Japan and North America This Fall
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 28, 2004) – Square Enix U.S.A., Inc. (“Square Enix U.S.A.”), the publisher of Square Enix™ interactive products in North America, today announced the newest expansion to its fast-growing massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), FINAL FANTASY® XI, titled “Chains of Promathia.” With a community of 500,000 players and 1.2 million active characters from Japan and North America combined, this FINAL FANTASY XI expansion promises to bring more exciting adventures for all levels of gamers. Chains of Promathia is scheduled for release this fall in both Japan and North America. The first cross-platform, cross-continent MMORPG, FINAL FANTASY XI, allows gamers to connect to the same exact world regardless of whether they are playing on a personal computer (PC) or PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and whether they are playing in North America or Japan. In Japan, FINAL FANTASY XI for the PlayStation 2 and for Windows® were released in May and November 2002, respectively. Approximately a year later in October 2003, FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows® launched in North America, followed by the PlayStation 2 version in March 2004. This first online title in the world-renowned series has quickly become one of most popular MMORPGs to date. About FINAL FANTASY XI FINAL FANTASY XI blends sorcery and technology. The once peaceful world of Vana’diel® stands at the brink of war as a power struggle slowly emerges among the three nations. The struggle focuses on the control of sacred crystals: an essential source of all creation. An unknown malevolent force rises in Vana’diel with a passion for the energy within the crystals. In FINAL FANTASY XI, players will undertake multiple adventures through vast environments in the world of Vana’diel, a persistent world that has more than 100 areas to explore, including mountains, forests, ice plains, deserts, oceans, rivers, castles, and dungeons. The brand new gaming universe contains the award-winning visual content, innovative gameplay and deep storyline seen throughout the FINAL FANTASY series. FINAL FANTASY XI allows players to create their alter ego that will exist in the world of Vana’diel, choosing from a variety of races, facial features, hairstyles and colors. They will be able to play at their own pace and form parties by utilizing the various communication tools that have been incorporated into FINAL FANTASY XI, including easy-to-use chat and messaging systems. The inclusion of the “Rise of the Zilart” expansion pack expands the storyline and opens up a variety of higher-level skills and abilities. The soon to be released expansion “Chains of Promathia” brings a new chapter to the story of Vana’diel. Expanding the world of Vana’diel, new areas never before seen in maps will surface and towns, which have been spoken of but never seen, will emerge. Fabled legends will also be realized in Chains of Promathia. As some of the mysteries of Vana’diel are unraveled, additional secrets will be discovered in the intricately designed expansion, Chains of Promathia. Man..You guys keep repeating the same thing over and over..." Wouldn't So and so mages be kewl?"
I don't know about anyone else but I would like to see a Job brought in along with its own new weapon...if you are catching my drift I'm talking about a Gunblade Specialist or something of the like...I mean seriously using a Gunblade to rape those Mobs would be hella kewl!

Character: Kamizkah
Server: Shiva
Jobs: 24 THF/War

i am tired about people trying to piece together these jobs nobody has heard of, that they want to be like the best in the game. all i want is for squaresoft to bring back the classics. c'mon, guys, this game has a setting like final fantasy 3 (3 NOT 6) gunblade?! magitek?! that is ASSENINE! seriously, what would be the point of a gunbladesman, anyway? all the gunblade was, was a gimmick! it was useless!

ffvii sucked anyway...

Everyone talks about adding new jobs and that is cool, cuz i personally would like to see Blue Mage or Assassin or even Berserker jobs myself. But what i would like to see even more than one or more new jobs in FFXI from SE is the ability to use all the jobs collected on any character created. I think it kind of sucks that if you create a new and want that character to be your nin/rng for instance, you have to go all the way back to lvl. 30 again and then do the quest all over. You could probably think of it like a New Game+ or something along those lines. Not sure if anyone agrees with me. But this my personal oponion.

Ehh...well, you can do that. You can change jobs at will. The only job I haven't lvled is WHM...I've lvled every single other job currently available in the game (some higher than others, obviously) and can change back and forth pretty much at will.

You can change you country of allegiance.

The only thing you CAN'T change in game is your race, but if you want to start all over with a different race it makes sense that you would have to start over from scratch, no?

I haven't read through all the posts so don't flame me if I repeat these "wouldn't it be cool if..." posts but here's my wish.

They could make a new job called Mechanics/Engineers. This job would create machinery such as mechanized weapons, control mechanical mobs and abilities such as putting on a mechanical suit to do extra damage. I think machinery is overlooked in this game because people are focus on the medieval/magical theme. Putting in some technology might be a refreshing idea.
Gun mage

I personally think a GunMage would be cool. Like a Ranger but with guns and a whole new Magic set of it's own. I think a Gun mage would be nice if it had Enfeebles that made it weak against Certain weapons. (i.e H2H, Scythe, Etc.)But only one at a time. I personally think that would be a Fan-tabulous idea...than again it would just be another Job that Mithrans rock at :P WHERE'S THE ELVAAN LOVE! because we gotta think of how to make the new jobs (if there are any) will fit with the races. Just my 2 Gil.

I think a Vampire class would be cool, I mean they exist in the game already why not turn it into a class. they can have limitations ofcourse like a pendant to allow them outside during the day, and maybe high strength with low defense, I dont know I like the idea of a Vampire class I'm just not very imaginative.

Personally I would like to see more race options or at least more face/build options.

Personally id love to see some new jobs open up. However my guts telling me this packs just going to have some new areas. The logic behind this. More people keep signing up for the service and from what ive seen they sign up faster than new servers are put up. Theyre proabably just adding more areas so they can have more people on the same servers. Frankly thatd be a releif to me. Quifm and Kahzam are crowded enough as it is itll be nice to have some nice open hunting grouinds.

New expansion eh... Good thing, if they would make new jobs why would they make Pirate??? Isnt thief kinda like pirate? and i doubt they would put in blue mages because of there abilities, because some NMs you fight use 2HRs like invincible and stuff. That would mean that a blue mage could get a bunch of different 2HRs. Also that would almost eliminate all other mages because...
1. Red mage, black mage, and white mage have to buy there spells.

2. A blue mage would be able to get all BLM, WHM and RDM spells while other mages are limited.

3. And even if they did add Blue mage dont you think that the ability to get other monsters abilitys would be a 2HR move.. meaning that its gonna take forever to get some other monsters abilities.

Another thing is what kind of spells would a time mage have if they made one? It would own if there 2HR was the ability to give another person there 2HR back. but then imagine that with 2 Time mages in the party.. Eagle eye shot like no tommorow, and infinite invicible. I dont think that there gonna add any kind of mages, if they do anything it should be give DRG some more abilities and increase level cap by like 25.

These are all personal oppinions.
new class ideas

although there likely aren't gonna be new classes in this game i think it's still fun to theorize about possible addition. here are the best/most likely new classes to be added:

Blue Mage/Mime (BLU): lots of people dont think blue mage would work, but i think if we combined blue mage and mime it might be able to work. it would be like the classic Blue Mage, learning moves from enemy monsters. things like 1000 Needles and Bomb Toss could be learned. the moves would require MP to use, and each move would be learned simply by having the move used on you, then possibly having to cast something afterwards to obtain it. you could have a 10 minute job ability or something that teaches you the last move used by the enemy as long as you do it in time. Or maybe it's 2hr could be to copy moves, making it harder to obtain them (while leveling in Valkrum how can you NOT have bomb toss cast on you?). they would also later gain an Mime ability that would allow them to mimic abilities and traits of other jobs or something like that.

Berserker (BSK): this would be a pure damage class. very low defense, but huge attack. it would pretty much be like a dark knight but with even less defense and more dmg, and without the magic.

Pirate (PIR): this would be a very interesting class to add. it would be a melee class, but do a lot less dmg than the others, and heres why: when we're attacked by pirates on the ferry, we dont see humes and elvaans and tarus, we see undead. because if you talk to a certain pirate in Norg you learn that pirates in Vana'diel summon their dead comrades lost at sea to fight for them. so a Pirate would be a necromancer! it could be another solo class, like beastmaster (you need at least one more pure solo class for those that dont like to party). perhaps as you progress through the game you are able to summon minions of different jobs. at first you can only summon a warrior skeleton, but later on you can summon other types. imagine having your own whitemage skeleton to follow you and heal you, it could turn out very interesting. what might also be neat is if you could summon more than one skeleton at a time. perhaps even 5 so you could be a full party. of course the amount available at a time would raise as you level. hehe, never spend hours LFG again!

Dancer (DNC): like a bard, but uses dancing instead of singing/playing music. would be more offensive than defensive. brds mostly cast enhancing spells, dancers would cast enfeebling spells.

so, what do you think? 2 new mage type classes and another solo class. i really think each of these ideas would be a great addition to the game and would be very fun to play.

I think that Blue Mage is VERY workable if you think it through and put some rational limitations on it. Here's what I've come up with in just the few minutes that I've given it some serious consideration:

Blue Mage: Learns the magic abilities of mobs. Magic here is important. Bomb Toss, as mentioned in the above post, would not qualify as it is a weapon that requires ammunition, not an ability. So no bomb toss for our BlM. Bomb Toss would remain the bane of our collective existences. :)

The BlM would be able to learn the abilities of normal mobs only after that ability has been used on them explicitly (not on someone in the party). This would make it a little more difficult for BlMes to learn the abilities in a party as they are not exactly tanks. This would also make soloing well worth the effort. Lack of XP while soloing would be less of a pain for BlMes as they are raising their magic abilities while soloing. BlMes would need to use a job ability to learn the ability after it is used on them. This would allow some choice on what abilities the BlM attains which would also let the BlM keep down clutter in their menu.

NMs. The 2Hour of the BlM would be the special attack learned from an NM. Note that I said attack; singular; as in ONE. The BlM would be able to learn any NM's special attack, but would only be able to equip one at a time. So if invincibility is the ability a particular BlM wants to learn, he/she has to learn that from a NM and choose not to learn any other NM's special. If they do learn another NM's special after learning invincibility (for example), invincibility is no longer available to them. And this WOULD be their 2hour and operate just as everyone else's 2hour. It would last for a particular amount of time and then be unavailable for 2 hours. NMs' special abilities would also be the only exception to the "must be targetted toward the BlM" rule. This would also require a quest to get the ability, which would be separate and distinct from the standard leech ability.

BlMs would have NO scrolls. Every ability that a BlM would have access to (other than basic melee) would HAVE to be learned from mobs. Also, it would not be a 100% chance that they would learn the mob's ability on an attempt. The success of a learn attempt would depend on attributes like MND and INT. This would help to balance out the cost discrepancy between BlMs, BLMs, WHMs, and RDMs. While BlMs would not have the cost of scrolls to burden them, they would have to stay VERY current on their gear. Much more so than WHMs and the like, who tend to focus more on scrolls than gear due to the cost involved.

That's what I've got so far. Any thoughts, ideas, additions, problems? :)

new jobs
# Apr 28 2004 at 7:07 PM Rating: Decent
I think that ideal new jobs would be Dancer, Blue Mage, and maybe even a special gunner job like ranger but not quite. I think that Blue Mage would be a great support jobs if they put in classic abilities like White Wind, Trine, Flamethrower, and other things from FFVII "Enemy Skills", FFVIII and FFX Limits. Speaking of limit breaks, I efinately think that a great thing for SE to add would be a limit system, unless that is what they meant 2 hour abilities to be like...

I can't wait ^_^

on ps2 or PC do we have to pay extra monthly for the expansion + the $12.5?
Its kinda expensive to pay 125$ (CAN) + 23$ (CAN) monthly payment + cable + $30US for the expansion = about $200 CANadian (hate ontario's taxes)

When it comes to new jobs, you really have to think of balance and what is missing in terms of the party experience. What roles are missing. Truth is, a Blue Mage is so close to a Beastmaster that I can't see it happening.

One of the new areas is a Goblin city "Movalpolos" that is all about Technology and even Bionics!! Imagine Magitech Warriors or something similar. Or the possibility of a machina making guild!!!!!

Anyways, if you sit and think about what could be added in terms of jobs, there isn't much left that wouldn't be duplicating the other jobs that exist.

The jobs throughout the series are basically all included in FF5 and are as follows:

Knight (Warrior)
Monk
Thief
Lancer (Dragoon)
Ninja
Samurai
Berserker
Hunter (Ranger)
Sorcerer
White Mage
Black Mage
Time Mage
Summoner
Blue Mage
Red Mage
Trainer (Beastmaster)
Chemist
Geomancer
Bard
Dancer
Mime

And of course paladin and darkknights are hybrids of warrior + white/black mage.

Mime would be a bit too difficult to portray in an mmorpg sadly.

Dancer would be an interesting advanced Bard, using dances rather than songs, so is a possibility

Geomancer (earth/nature mage) would be very interesting - this is a light melee that uses their surroundings to inflict damage - very possible idea.

Chemist would be too closely related to a white mage in job assignments.. no particular use in an mmorpg

Blue mage would be in my opinion one of the ideal choices for a new job if SE decides to add more. This is a mage that learns monster abilities (Quina from 9, Quistis from 8.. you get the idea)

Sorcerer would be the other ideal choice for a new job - Enchanting one's swords with white and black magic, Although similar to a red mage's En-- line of spells this job is strictly melee.

Berserker would be like a Great Axe warrior mixed with a Dark Knight's attack up buffs - heavy dmg melee.

Time mage would be space magic + time buffs/debuffs would have an interesting mix of white red and black magic plus some abilities that people have been dying to see.. namely Meteor and Ultima.

So with all that said, there are several likely candidates should Square/Enix decide to implement new ones. Enjoy.

I have been told by numerous resources that there will be three new jobs. This includes the Blue Mage that everyone is raving about. Necromancer, finally a job that incorporate the undead. Lastly but not least, the barbarian (another combat charater :P). I am almost 90 percent sure that these are the new jobs and I am definitly sure that there will be new jobs. Everyone enjoy the game and lvl up for the upcoming huge event in the fall (a huge war).
