SQUARE ENIX ANNOUNCES FINAL FANTASY® XI EXPANSION – CHAINS OF PROMATHIA™ 500,000 Players Await the Latest Expansion, Scheduled For Simultaneous Release In Japan and North America This Fall
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 28, 2004) – Square Enix U.S.A., Inc. (“Square Enix U.S.A.”), the publisher of Square Enix™ interactive products in North America, today announced the newest expansion to its fast-growing massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), FINAL FANTASY® XI, titled “Chains of Promathia.” With a community of 500,000 players and 1.2 million active characters from Japan and North America combined, this FINAL FANTASY XI expansion promises to bring more exciting adventures for all levels of gamers. Chains of Promathia is scheduled for release this fall in both Japan and North America. The first cross-platform, cross-continent MMORPG, FINAL FANTASY XI, allows gamers to connect to the same exact world regardless of whether they are playing on a personal computer (PC) or PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and whether they are playing in North America or Japan. In Japan, FINAL FANTASY XI for the PlayStation 2 and for Windows® were released in May and November 2002, respectively. Approximately a year later in October 2003, FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows® launched in North America, followed by the PlayStation 2 version in March 2004. This first online title in the world-renowned series has quickly become one of most popular MMORPGs to date. About FINAL FANTASY XI FINAL FANTASY XI blends sorcery and technology. The once peaceful world of Vana’diel® stands at the brink of war as a power struggle slowly emerges among the three nations. The struggle focuses on the control of sacred crystals: an essential source of all creation. An unknown malevolent force rises in Vana’diel with a passion for the energy within the crystals. In FINAL FANTASY XI, players will undertake multiple adventures through vast environments in the world of Vana’diel, a persistent world that has more than 100 areas to explore, including mountains, forests, ice plains, deserts, oceans, rivers, castles, and dungeons. The brand new gaming universe contains the award-winning visual content, innovative gameplay and deep storyline seen throughout the FINAL FANTASY series. FINAL FANTASY XI allows players to create their alter ego that will exist in the world of Vana’diel, choosing from a variety of races, facial features, hairstyles and colors. They will be able to play at their own pace and form parties by utilizing the various communication tools that have been incorporated into FINAL FANTASY XI, including easy-to-use chat and messaging systems. The inclusion of the “Rise of the Zilart” expansion pack expands the storyline and opens up a variety of higher-level skills and abilities. The soon to be released expansion “Chains of Promathia” brings a new chapter to the story of Vana’diel. Expanding the world of Vana’diel, new areas never before seen in maps will surface and towns, which have been spoken of but never seen, will emerge. Fabled legends will also be realized in Chains of Promathia. As some of the mysteries of Vana’diel are unraveled, additional secrets will be discovered in the intricately designed expansion, Chains of Promathia. i said this like in december, they should put in at least bahamut... thats the strongest though so it should be like lvl 75... its be cool to have a Giant dragon which has an ultimate atack ( summoner 2HR) which did 9999 dmg
and had like 100k hp
I GOT AN IDEA!
# May 23 2004 at 2:08 PM Rating: Decent
There should be quests or things which give you the ability to seriously use enhanced abilitys...
its be cool... especially if they added new 2 hours for every 30 lvls, and enhanced some other
skills and JA... also that dragoons wyverns could equpi crap like mythril teeth, or darkstell claw covering err whatever... tail plate armor
and that every 10 lvls theyd get bigger and stronger like evolve... lol i jsut got some crazy ideas after reading all your posts

well, i sincerely hope that they change the look of some mobs of the same type.. meaning, wild rabbits look so much the same as forest hare, sand hare, etc.. and the thickshells, clippers, snippers look the same, pugils, greater pugils, oceaen pugil, etc look completely THE SAME!! i mean, they can like change the color or add some spikes, change their size, etc even if its the same type..

lets see.. mandragoras would vary i.e. tiny manda -> only 2 leaves.. other mandragora -> 3 leaves, color change.. mandragoras in kazham -> four leaves? change color, etc etc... hell i dont know..
RE: mob images
# May 23 2004 at 2:18 PM Rating: Decent
they actually do that... but not enough... its like every 20 to 30 lvls theyll change the appearance

I would also like to see a choco mounted class that would be realy cool, and the alchemist idea is realy good too i wouldn't mind playing one of those.
Although im all for a whole expansion of just more diversity looks, cloths, weapons, so that each person would be more unique maybe a colore scheme type thing for equipment.
and 10 was ok but please dont mension machina for 11 please...

oh and gunblade realy was a ***** gimmick..

Ninja =Assassin
# May 06 2004 at 3:52 PM Rating: Decent
ok... people... if you wan't a job to be added, you have to THINK... what is the point of the job. all the "assassin' is is a name. if you ask me, ninja is close enough to an assassin for me: double weilding, extra throwing skills, even ninja magic!so, tell me... what would the assassin do? or do you know?!

i rest my case
No New Characters
# May 03 2004 at 4:02 PM Rating: Decent
SquareEnix would not add any new characters. It would **** up the whole point of the game. There are enough classes as it is. Saying there will be a necromancer or assasin is like saying Pikachu will be a BCNM. They don't have a Bard in Diablo, do they? It's common sence people.

The will probably stage some more area's closer to Bastok because they are last place in almost every server. The idea of Blue Mage is realistic, but probably not likely. Wedding might be possible too, but is probably not likely either. I have heard that you can use a raft though, for travel on streams.

PEOPLE PEOPLE PLEASE!!!! There is a lot that could be better in FF XI, but I think the game is fine the way it is.... There is already so much to do! If you have leveled like crazy, why not do quests and missions? And if you have leveled completed every single quest and mission, then DAMN you have way to much time on your hands. Please SE if you are reading these: DO NOT COMPLICATE THIS GAME ANYMORE! I have a hard enuff time getting all the quests and missions done and keeping my level up. If people are bored with this game.... MOVE ON TO SOMETHING ELSE! There are other MMORPG, give ppl like me a chance. And I agree with some of the other posts some of the ideas ppl have are crap. (Thats why you dont work for SE, keep them to yourself or your LS). Well I love forums Thank You for letting me put my 2 cents in and I know I am probably gonna get hate from ya'll but.... thats ok. :)

Dancers
# Apr 30 2004 at 8:33 PM Rating: Default
I would think the dancer would stand for "Shadowdancer" but that would remind me of ninja, it seems tho, ive read a lot recently about people pissed about how a ninja is all about blink tanks, and thats not what they were meant to do, perhaps SE plans on changing ninja to more of an assasin job, and will make a Shadow, or battle dancer, something like a warrior, perhaps with dual wield, (makes me think of like a harem wench with two scimitars) mayhbe a speed buff for dual wield, but make them REALLY weak defensively, perhaps a new field of magic, Shadow Magic, a replacement for current-day Utsusemi. we shall see tho, wont we?

Geomancer sounds totally original and cool...A+ on that one! ^^

Here's a few classes I have seen many moan over from other forums, etc. Dont flame me for this

Blue Mage (BLU)
Weapons: Basically same as RDM weapons

Armor: Light armor

Basic Concept: I myself would love to play as the Blue Mage. Taking in ideas from many other FF games, the Blue Mage can learn abilities and spells (Yes spells!) from monsters. At level 1, they aquire a job ability called "Learn". When a monster casts a spell or uses an ability on the Blue Mage, simply click or macro the Learn skill, and depending on your Charisma (CHA), you may or may not learn the ability. Also, you can only learn things from monsters close to your level, like a Beastmaster's "Charm" ability.

Once learned, the Blue Mage can use these spells and abilities as Magic. Yes, this means he uses MP. These can be used unlimited times once he learns them. A Blue Mage's MP is a low amount, remeber that though.

A Blue Mage would make a great addition to this game, and would overrall be fun to use. They would be like rangers when looking for parties (The party leader would probably ask what spells they have learned, etc.) The Blue Mage is actually a lot like a ranger. Rangers need money to be accepted, and Blue Mages would need the time to get the skills. The Blue Mage would also be very customizable. You can be a fighter, debuffer, healer, etc. Depends all on what abilities and spells you want an aquire! ^^
Here is a small list I thought up of of all the monsters in West/East Ronfaure. VERY Basic. Dont flame me, for i forgot what alot of these monsters abilities are...^^

Wild Rabbit - Dust Cloud, Foot Kick
Forest Hare - Dust Cloud, Foot Kick
Tunnel Worm - Stone
Rock Worm - Stone
Orcish Mesmirizer -
Ding Bats - Ultrasonics
Wild Sheep - Sheep Song, Wild Rage?
Pugil - Screwdriver

There was a few...Next up...

Engineer -or- Sniper (Eng)(Sni)
Weapons: Small daggers...ranged is GUNS

Armor: Ranger-style armor

Basic Concept: Engineers are a class based around guns. Yes, I mean guns. Only guns! With this class comes more bullets and guns though... This class would also be fun to pull off lots of damage with...like ranger =P He would get bonuses to some crafting skills, and able to buy new bullets such as "Goblin Bullet" which would have an additional debuff or element effect Vs. Goblins... He learns other job abilities such as "Leg Aim" (Bind), "Arm Aim" (Slow?), and his 2-hour, "Head Aim" (Ranged Critical Every Time).

This class is like the ranger in many ways, but is more skilled with guns. Sorry to say, but seeing rangers able to use guns hurts my eyes. It doesn't feel right...Forgive Me. This job would be fun to some people who like guns more, and be able to do extra Vs. different mobs. And people may like the added crafting skill plusses. ^^

Alchemist -or- Chemist (Alc)(Chm)
Weapons: Thief-style weapons

Armor: Thied-style armor =P

Basic Concept: This class would be soooooooo friggen cool. First off though, all healing potions, etc. would need to be able to stack in x99, well x12 is fine i guess...and there would need to be more types of potions and medicine. The alchemist can equip medicine in his ranged slot and throw it at his allies. Essentially he is the second healer class in the game, but expensive. Medicine prices would need to drop, or chemists would need a lot of money.

Alchemists also have the unique ability to "Mix". No, this is not a 2-hour, where would all the fun go with it being a 2-hour. Chemist's could forge damaging potions by combining ingredients dropped by monsters. Ex: Pugil Scale x10 = A potion equivilent to the spell "Water". And these potions dont require any alchemy skill! Chemist's also get Boost in the alchemy crafting skill. This would be such and amazing class..../drool

I hope you like these, and better yet, I hope SE looks here and sees these ^^. I really badly hope they make atleast the Blue Mage and Alchemist class, and the Engineer is o.k....probably take more time...

But who am i kidding, Square Enix will never look here, and these will go unnoticed. But hey, a guy can dream can't he? Hope you all liked these, as I did. And dont flame....anyone. These are only ideas, and people are just trying to explain their imagination. Compliment them and tell them how they can make their dream characters better.

i do like that alchemist idea... though, i think chemist would be a better name for it, coz alchemy is a craftskill... that one ability they have sounds an awful lot like the craftskill EVERYBODY can use, though...
RE: Whole crapload
# May 07 2004 at 8:33 AM Rating: Decent
about blue mages learning spells... that would make them SUPER monty... i think they should just learn the abilities, and maybe monster specific spells (if there are any) i.e "magic hammer" and others.
This is Final Fantasy!

Guys I mean I have a sense of humor and all but enough is enough...My only hope is that SE doesn't look to this messageboard for ideas on their next update...
You guys talk about Necromancers? As if it would be kewl to bring them into the Final Fantasy series...Okay if you get your jollies off that kinda crap go play a couple hours of Dark Alliance, Diablo, hell even some Champions of norrath...Just cause square can get away with a few pirates that can do it you think it would be 'neat' to have a necro job? Give me a break...Same with the vampire. I love anne rice and all but this is FINAL FANTASY!!! only enough room for one...and that is for the semi-vamp Vincent! This may be my bias opinion but i feel that others agree with me on this...So c'mon guys think realistically aight?
Hey here's an idea why not a POKEMON MASTER!! job??? rediculous huh...take care all!

I still pretty much agree with the poat above but when I start seeing
Quote:
So c'mon guys think realistically aight?
then I've just got to laugh and replty.
First off, since when did FF ever have any of their ideas based in reality/realism? Let's use a couple examples shall we:
FF - Attaining a Rat Tail was a sign of manhood!
FFII - A flying whale that takes u too the moon!
FFIII/or VI by Japanese release) - Knights of the Squaretable (DO I even have to say more???)
FFVII - Letting Aeris DIE! What were they smoking??? Actually, I never liked her much so good move boys^^
FFVIII - A stream of monsters from the moon???
FFIX - Monkey man for a hero?
FFX - Sin Thats all I'm going to say!
FFX-2 - A game about chicks, err, different.

Tavnazia
# Apr 29 2004 at 3:24 PM Rating: Decent
All I can see so far is that the Tavnazian Archipelago looks like it has a city with a natural stone bridge...just like the one where Aldo comes from.

Looking forward to hearing that side of the story, especially since WHM AF quests talk about the fall of the Marquisate of Tavnazia.

(I always thought the beginning movie sequence was what Jeuno looked like before it was destroyed...it bothered me since I never knew if I was right or wrong... Anyone else have good info on the Tavnazians? Maybe San d'Orians?)
My thoughts...
# Apr 29 2004 at 2:33 PM Rating: Decent
I read all of the posts and some of the ideas presented are terrible. Keep in mind they have to be balanced. The Prestige Jobs basic idea was decent, but ruined by the person who elaborated on them. Worst of all, a Gun Mage?!?!?!?!? That is the biggest load of crap I have ever heard of.
RE: My thoughts...
# Apr 29 2004 at 9:30 PM Rating: Decent
...Well i thought it might have been a good idea...but i mean obviously it's just a "Load of Crap" as you put it. I mean I see no use in Guns since Rangers PRIMARILY use bows. oh and Gunmage was from FFX-2...the game may have sucked but i liked the Gunmage...no need to flame me.
rumors ive heard
# Apr 29 2004 at 12:59 PM Rating: Decent
blue mage - learns spells from mobs

chocobo knight - fights from chocobos (they would have to add another type of chocobo, specific to this job so you could fight and be aggroed on it)

necromancer - like bst, but with undead, and more mage oriented rather than fighter.

these are what ive heard...

Well, if they do put in new jobs, they probably won't be anymore powerful than the existing ones. They will also probably not be very simular to any existing job. (not anymore than any current job is simular to another) I personally would like to see another solo job thats not as dependant on charisma. Maybe *cough* dex and/or agi? ^.~ At any rate I can't wait to see whatever new stuff they put in! *cough* choco races and/or chocos with special abilitys pleeeeaasssee! Yeah I know it'd be hard to do but I can hope!
New Race?

Anyone pick up from looking at the new stuff that there may be new race coming in? Mentioned within the Taznamia cut was the fact that a race was thought wiped out, but now not so sure. Am I just dreaming, or you think there might be something there? Anyway, Me thinks that we definitely need some new classes (solo possibility preferably). Gunblade warrior sounds too cool for words, and machina has always been a great thing. :) Whats up with the Magiteck Warrior? Don't think I've ever seen them.

The more I think about this expansion, the more that I think that the addition of new advanced jobs is not likely.

One thing that was discussed awhile ago that I think would be really fair would be the addition of prestige jobs. If you think that avatars are now available at lvl 20 for summoners, then a killer reward for high lvl players would be a nice addition.

I think the Addition of these jobs could be cool:

(limit them by disallowing a subjob)

------------------------------------------------
Sage:
Requirement:One Mage job lvl 60, other mage jobs at lvl 30

Would have the ability to use White, Black and Red Magic
------------------------------------------------

High Summoner:
Requirement:Summoner lvl 60, defeated all prime avatars, and all trial size avatars.

Add a few more killer avatars: Bahamut, Alexander, Odin, etc

------------------------------------------------

Magiteck Warrior:

Requirement:Melee Class at lvl 60, 2 other melee jobs at lvl 30

Haven't really thought this one out, but it would be some kind of super advanced meele job that would have lots of perks.

------------------------------------------------

Something like this would give a really nice incentive for people to work to lvl up higher rather than just jumping from job to job and staying low.

I think it would be alot better than just adding new regular jobs, because it would be a reflection of the the path you have decided to dedicate yourself to in the game, and therefore earning you the prestige.

We'll see though.

i found this in another post in the WHM job forum. this was posted before the expansion was announced. possible connection???

I have heard rumors about an increased level cap, this list looks to me like a RDM/WHM/BLM spell list up to lvl 100. God, I hope I'm right.....:)

One of my LS mates said something about seeing a file with the word "dancer" in it. No clue as to the verity of this, but who knows...
