Final Fantasy XV to Release in 2016; New Video

Square Enix is aiming to unleash Crown Prince Noctis and his comrades in 2016.

Square Enix has announced that their upcoming RPG, Final Fantasy XV, will be released in 2016; a more exact timeframe is expected to be revealed next March. Make sure to catch the upcoming Active Time Report during September's Tokyo Game Show for more details on Luna and Regis, as well as information about the fishing minigame and chocobo-related features.

“We’re proud of our technical capabilities and the work we’ve done to help shape the open-world genre,” said Avalanche Studios Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer Christofer Sundberg. “We hold the Final Fantasy franchise, and the team working on it, in such high regard and are excited to be a part of the next chapter.”

Immerse yourself in the road because if you actually look around at the rest, you'll probably notice that the car turns without the driver actually turning the steering wheel.

What stands out about open world games is the attention to detail that makes them that much more realistic. I know that people would say there is still a lot of time to correct issues like this and there is, but for a game in development as long as this one has been I'd just expect obvious things ironed out.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

Am I missing something here? It looked like some sort of sight seeing mini-game. I'm not sure why they didn't include the 'manual' selection, but auto-piloting to a destination while you switch between camera angles doesn't seem that exciting to me.

Immerse yourself in the road by activating the first person camera. I feel like I've been able to do that for a while. Program your digital valet? It looked he just selected park and the car drove itself to the nearest stop.

Not to be rude or anything, but I don't see anything here 'shaping the open world genre'. I don't even know if you could technically call this 'game play footage'.

This is where I think SE has lost sight of what made them great. The passive stuff was nice to look at in the old days, but it was preceded or succeeded by hands-on adventure/action stuff. It might be relaxing to go on auto-pilot and look around a few times. I am sure a simple fast travel feature would be used more than any scenic route with no input. If I was to wanna shape the open-world genre. I would have a living breathing seamless world, with different active ways of traversing it.
