I am thinking that Merit Points and Limit points are two different things... maybe Limit points are used for "leveling up the final weapons" where you have to use weaponskills in skill chains to earn points. Just an idea...

Sssshhh. I want to watch people get infinitely confused by 2 points systems with similar-sounding names.

Hmm, I would also like to hear how you did this since the official website categorically states the opposite.

"Players can now receive “merit points” for experience earned after reaching level 75"

http://www.playonline.com/comnewsus/040629fg5rh3.html

Let's hear some details about how you got merit points before attaining lv75, if that's not too much to ask.

Any experience earned after reaching the EXP limit at level 75 is automatically converted into merit points. Also, if players wish to accumulate merit points before reaching the EXP limit, they may do so by speaking to the Nomad Moogle floating near Maat in the Ru'Lude Gardens. By doing this, every time a certain amount of EXP has been earned it will be exchanged for merit points, and not added to the EXP total in the usual fashion.
After agreeing to participate in the Nomad Moogle's experiment, players with multiple jobs at level 75 will automatically accumulate merit points while performing any of these occupations.

*cough*

Try reading the next line after what you have quoted.

Please read carefully. Let me explain your quote. . It says that once you hit the max xp points possible at lvl 75 (exp. 47999/48000), then any further xp you get will automatically go towards merit points, but you can choose to put xp towards merit points before reaching the MAX XP LIMIT (exp. 47999/48000) as long as your lvl 75. So in other words you can earn merit points the moment you hit lvl 75 (exp. 1/48000) but any xp you earn goes towards merit points and your actual xp will stay 1/48000 so one death and you will delevel.
"Also, if players wish to accumulate merit points before reaching the EXP limit, they may do so by speaking to the Nomad Moogle floating near Maat in the Ru'Lude Gardens."
"EXP limit" is the keyword. . an exp. would be before reaching 47999/48000xp so before reaching that. If you speak to the moogle, he will tell you himself that you must be lvl 75. I had to try to talk to him quite a few times before he actually gave me an explanation so im not sure how to get him to talk to you though. He usually says to come back or some junk. .

From what I can gather Limit points can be used once you reach lvl 75. At that time I believe you have to do a quest the will enable you to transfer normal exp you gain to limit points. The points can be used to increase you base states like mnd, int, max hp, max mp, and stats like that. There is also a limit to the number of points you can have at one time and also a limit to how much you can raise some of the stats although I don't know what those limits are. Hope this helps.

The limits are 5 points used in HP and MP, and 7 points used in the stats ( ATK - CHR ), as stated in the 53 page update in the Developer's Room section before selecting play in the Final Fantasy XI PlayOnline menu.
It gives an example of what it means. For example, you can raise HP+5 MP+0, or HP+3 MP+2, etc., but the points used can't exceed 5 altogether. Same for the rest of the stats : You can raise =
STR+1 DEX+1 VIT+1 AGI+1 INT+1 MND+1 CHR+1, or =
STR+0 DEX+0 VIT+0 AGI+0 INT+4 MND+3 CHR+0, etc.

When I went to the moogle (it's standing right besides Maat in Ru'lude), he told me he needed more time to think as well!

I sure wish I could get merit points before level 75. ;_; Then again, that just gives me another reason to get up to level 75! So I can max out my stats even more! :D

No, you don't HAVE to be 75
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 16 2004 at 1:32 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ues you DO have to be lvl 75 before Merit points can be earned
RE: Limit Points?

Actually you DONT have to be lvl 75, you can activate the merit point accumulation before 75, and then turn it off at will, you just don't earn xp while this is activated. Check your facts before you say something like this.

Comedy gold.

Here we go, straight from Developer's Room:

"Players can now receive gmerit pointsh for experience earned after reaching level 75."

The only thing ever stated about the quest having an effect below 75 is this little part:

"After speaking to the Nomad Moogle, if a level 75 player is KO'd, the experience that was previously earned will be lost and cannot be regained (all further experience earned will be converted into merit points). However, if the KO results in the player leveling down to 74, he/she will be able to accumulate EXP until he/she has reached level 75 again."

ie, the only time you can have merit points activated without literally being 75 is if you delevel, however, if you delevel you no longer earn limit points, and instead earn exp until you regain level 75.

Yes, please DO check your facts before you say something like this, chief. Served. --need I say more?

doesn't it also say:

Also, if players wish to accumulate merit points before reaching the EXP limit, they may do so by speaking to the Nomad Moogle floating near Maat in the Ru'Lude Gardens

i really don't know anything about this except for what i've read, so please correct me if i'm interpreting this the wrong way. perhaps i've misinterpreted the meaning of exp limit or something, but that sentence would suggest being able to start getting merit points before 75.

The "experience limit" they are referring to is when you are one experience point away from "levelling" into level 76, if such a level currently existed in-game.

Since it does not, the "experience limit" in question is just that -- when you are one experience point from achieving level 76, and are thus at the limit of the current level standards.

What they mean is that you don't have to be one experience point off of the max EXP you can have at 75. You can have 1 EXP, 10 EXP, or even 1000 EXP ... and so long as you are level 75, you can partake in the merit system.

How about you tell us how then? Cause i'm level 57 and when I talk to the moogle he just says that he needs more time to think. It's even stated "A new system for distrubting experionce points PAST level 75 will be added." sounds like you need to be 75 to me...
