Special Rules for Ballista (Sep. 12)

Hmm... advance notice on this would have been nice. Ballista will now feature a special rule as detailed below. Please take a moment to enjoy playing Ballista with a twist! Don't miss out! Special Rule ------------- (1) The number of Petras that can be scored at once will be set to five. Additionally a time limit will be imposed on Gate Breach status. (2) The potency of Sleep will be decreased. (3) The effective radius of Gate Breach status will be increased to 30 yalms on party members. (4) Damage and accuracy values between characters of different levels will be changed. As of this event, your damage and attack will increase when you attacking a player who is a higher level than yourself. (5) The maximum number of participants for one team has been increased from 36 to 72. (6) Participants outside of the nation listed on the match card may join. However a certain amount of time will have to pass before that participant may join (7) Those adventurers not participating in Ballista will NOT be displayed. You can confirm this rule by talking to a Pursuivant. Be sure to confirm the entry period as well as allegiance and level restrictions before entering.

i like ballista. but i agree that the allure of it is diminishing ever since its release. i think people should stop taking it as a grounds to settle grievences and think instead of it being a ball game (basketball, soccer, etc). it's more of a device for fun than actual monetary gain.

however, i must admit that i get quite disappointed when i take the trouble to get to the match ground and sign up only to have it cancelled on me.

making it easier to join, i.e. taking away the registration fee, letting registration be done in the three major towns ahead of time be allowed (with instant teleports to the ballista site), etc, go a long way in making ballista more accessible to the people.

if making it so readily available isn't enough to at least get people interested, then i guess moving on to actually giving rewards (furniture items, exchangeable ballista points, conquest points even) would help get the required attendence.

just my two cents worth. probably an echo of other comments made by others. but heck, just felt like typing today. ^^

Im pretty sure you can make suggestions to SE about FFxi and you are right they should make it free and give teleports. If you suggest it they may take it into if you mention it will drive up participation, afterall they did lower prices in the previous update for the same reason.

Why can't you people use the forums to actually discuss the topics instead of turning them into gripe and moan sessions? I read 2-3 posts that were actually related to Ballista...The rest were just poeple moaning and groaning about this. If you don't like it...Don't play. If you do play, think of constructive criticism instead of just complaining or whining about it. And finally, if you don't like the game, then why are you wasting your time and money here? Go find another game to play and let someone truly interested in playing play.
the only reason to play ballista is...

As a BLM, the problem for me with Ballista is the reward are too low vs. the cost of playing.. If I go in without a full stack of Echo Drops (5k-6k), i'm just gimping my team/nation..

I often am one of the first to be taken out (either BLM, BRD or RNG it would seem).

Ballista Has turned into a ghost town as of late.
The new format and rules have really detracted greatly. Perhaps its the novelty wearing off, Perhaps its these new restrictive rules.
I dont know, But Ballista is not going over too well. I spend alot of time in jugner, and Ballista matches are always cancelled. Ive not seen a completed ballista match in id say 2-3 months.

"A ship built on good intentions will sail as gracefully as a stone" - unknown

that says it all. SE clearly has good intentions with ballista. But clearly is showing very ... i hate to say this, but japaneese thinking in relationship to ballista.
The game is too rule oriented, Too bulky, unrealistic. Too slow, and just simply not fun. By the time your 30 min into a match..you start wishing it was over with.

The game needs to be dramatically faster, not only in Real time play, But in how quickly and freely a match can be set up. It also needs to be smaller in scope. Allowing 2 separate parties/alliances to request a match. And select a banner to fight under. Or make it LS based. LSvLS would be great.

Also , the zones, are way too huge to be effective to play. there does need to be a lot of hiding spots to work with , but they need to be in very small confined spaces. And i think a special zone would be best served to act as a ballista arena. Sprint doesnt do diddly to your speed, and getting back into the action of the game takes far far far too long.

Perhaps Ballista is too far gone. Perhaps its time to scrap it, and focus on the new PvP event. Perferably Dueling, But if nothing else, group on group event. And one major thing that would act to a major improvement to the game as it stands... drop the blasted registration money requirement.

Good points. Of course another way to instantly get people interested in ballista is... actuallly give them a reward for playing. I think a lot of people would try Ballista, but just don't have the time between levelling, farming, etc. Doesn't have to be anything great, just a chocobo pass or something. Maybe even some worthless novelty EX items.
Old rules, actually

Those of you who play ballista will note that none of these are new rules. They simply ended the special rule that divided ballista in to 3 small matches (this was last week). I guess they felt like notifying everyone of the change, but it's deceiving in that it seems like there's something new. I think they try to find excuses to spam things like this so that they can get the word out about Ballista.

Just imagine... a 72 vs. 72 ballista. Mass chaos and lag, but probably the most fun you could have in this game.

This should make farming in passhow a bit more interesting. I frequently wander in and out of ballista zones, most the time to watch (if you've never watched a ballista, go out and find one. Its a real riot watching the rangers plow through people ;p).

I think he means there aren't that many people that would do Ballista on his server at one time to fully make use of this new rule ^.^

From what I know, most servers have a cap of 20,000 people, where 3-4 (2000 on my server) are usually on at one time. ˆˆ;
