Besides, FFX beating down EverCrack in every aspect, I can actually play FFXI. I started out with everquest and ended up switching to FFXI because I got disconnected from everyquest every fricking half an hr. And after months and months of fighting with the ISP to improve my line. I gave up and switched to FFXI. FFXI works like a charm. So here's the conclusion from my shallow mind, FFX ROX, EVERCRACK SUX!!
For those who said otherwise, Why are you ranting about everquest being better in a FFXI forum?. I can only think of one reason, you think you know something we dont?. Well, you are wrong. Many of us had played everquest. So shaddup about it already. We r here to talk about FFXI. If you have something to say about everquest being better, go to the everquest forum and rant about how lame FFXI is. Perhaps, you'd get a few to argree with you. Spilling your ******** here, thinking you know something , we dont, will only annoy people.

Good post Kamunt, personally I really don't think any mmorpg is better than another, no matter what mmorpg I play.. it may look and seem different but deep down it's still the exact same concept with every mmorpg I've played.

I think the mmorpg crowd tends to move to the newest thing around, but the people who have spent large amounts of time on the mmorpg they currently play tend to think the one they play is better no matter how old and thus the which mmorpg is better argument begins.

Although as for the which console is better.. well we all know that's ps2.. no contest =p.. kidding
omg...

okay, i am going to end this right now by saying this: IF YOU THINK FFXI IS BETTER THAN EQ OR THAT EQ IS BETTER THAN FFXI THAT IS YOUR OPINION. THERE IS NO RIGHT ANSWER. its just like the never-ending argument of "which console system is better: PS2, Xbox, or GC?" WHO GIVES A DAMN?! if you think that EQ is the shiznit of MMORPGs and that FFXI sucks completely, THATS FINE. GO RIGHT AHEAD AND THINK THAT. but OMFG it gets really obnoxious when thats all people talk about for huge amounts of time. you like what you like, and i like what i like. simple as that. end of disscusion, and my rant.

I read that article in the first post and I must say that Square Enix uses some of the same tactics "timesinks" I'm lvl 50 doing Limit Break 1 why must it's taking for ever to get the mold. In a party I we killed maybe 7 to 10 exorays and not a single drop.

Why does Square Enix force you to party in order to get xp? It can take at least half an hour to form a good party and than when you finally get to your camp someone has to leave sound familiar?

Why can’t quests give you xp? Is that so wrong? I hardly ever do any quests because they are so unrewarding.

But that's almost it actually, EQ has a better gameplay, better fight system (extremely superior in EQ actually, FF XI is clumsy and lacks a good overview)

Zieveraar I'd have to disagree with you completely, I can't possibly see how the EQ combat system is "extremely superior" to ffxi. With xp chains, TP, skill chains, and magic bursts I find that there's much more strategy involved in FFXI combat.. when I played EQ combat was quite boring actually.. So I'm sorry but I just can't see how EQ combat is extremely superior.

Quote:
better quests and a lot more of them

Now this I strongly disagree with, now I can't judge FFXI that much yet since I haven't been playing for too long but EQ I was playing for awhile and if I honestly fail to see how the quests are better at all in EQ.. quests annoyed me a lot of EQ but EQ is one of those games where you can get by without doing many quests.

Quote:
better start of the game (very handy tutorial!), more races, access to server of your own choice, better PvP,...

I agree with that, the tutorial is nice for new players, more races.. well I'd hope they'd have more races and classes considering they have 8 expansions out... Now servers.. if you think about it if we could choose what server we could go on.. it'd leave some servers way too populated and others under-populated with 32 to choose from. By putting new chars on the least populated server it does a much better job at balancing it out. So I don't consider that a flaw for FFXI when it's helping us all more than we realize.

Quote:
The only thing that I can't make my mind up over, is the fact that one character in FF XI can learn everything, all possible jobs. Not so in EQ, one character = one job. But EQ doesn't charge extra for another character.

The one character, all jobs feature was made partly because you pay extra for other characters. If you were limited to one job per character like EQ then you'd have to pay more to try another job and no one would like that. Instead you can get by with one character and play whatever job you want. Of course you probably know that.

Overall if you think the only thing FFXI does better than EQ is the AH and graphics.. you've let your addiction to EQ corrupt your mind so that you can't possibly think any game is better than the classic 1999 mmorpg with 8 expansions that is known as EverQuest.

For those of you EQ addicts here, people thinking of picking up the game, or people who simply want an interesting article to read.. http://slashdot.org/articles/02/12/27/1748252.shtml?tid=127

enjoy.

I don't know why some people are saying EQ has more subscribers than FFXI.. cause that's definitely not true.

"As of 2004, Sony reports subscription numbers close to 450,000. " source: http://www.fact-index.com/e/ev/everquest.html

"Sony has now announced that FFXI has over 1 million subscribers along..."
source: http://www.sfsignal.com/archives/001535.html Posted on May 13, 2004

If FFXI had 1 million users then, imagine how many we have now 4 months later with an expansion and european version released.

I'm not saying EQ is a bad game, I played it for quite awhile before I got into FFXI, but I just wanted to clarify that it's not nearly as popular as FFXI is.

i beta tested Lin. 2 it sucked. just a bunch of whining lil biatches. plus graphics "thumbs down" I reached lvl 14 in like 8 hrs and just said skrew this game and PK everyone i saw till i was lvl 4 then quit. FF 11 is incredible, it's everything you could ever want in a game.
also i have a feeling that PoL is gonna be the center to all SE MMORPGs. If they made one like Front Mission that would be sick =p

I recently quit EQ and, yes you can indeed compare them, they are surprisinly simliar, EQ is much worse, if only because Sony doesn't ever fix anything on it, they just release new expansions to distract you, which by the way, are barely tested at all, when Sony released the last expansion for EQ, entire parts of the game just stopped working, and it took them forever to make the lag bearable. while Square-Enix does fix things, and when they do release an expansion, they anticipate problems and solve them before they really hurt anything.

aye, they pretty much got a good hold of the glitches and patches part (one ex. of a bad game is Lineage2). As for ffxi vs. eq, you can't compare the 2 since everyone will have a different opinion ^_^

Anyway, I'm glad to see most of you are satisfied and still having fun with FFXI.

As for my next mmorpg, I don't think I'll ever play another until ffxi is really dead. This game has tons of stuff, by that I mean for the casual players, lol.

compairing ff to eq is like comparing apples to oranges. I like apple better.

Played both games 2 years eq and 1 ff. Hands down eq in my 3 years of playing was by far a better game.

Auction system, zones, mobs, equipment, crafting, grouping, abitilty to solo, kiting, rooting, buffing, spell effects last longer. Guild system far better than ls, Auction channel, storage space, travel sow boots and potions, buy horses not rent everytime ya need to go somewhere, not near as many botters or gill sellers on eq
RE: eq vs final fantasy
# Sep 23 2004 at 7:48 PM Rating: Good
Let me start by saying, I played EQ in 3 and a half years before FF came out and this Oct 30 will be my 1 year in the game and so far the only thing I miss about EQ is being a high level. Other than that, nothing else.

On the issue of the Auction systeim in EQ being better than FFXI. I hated the auction option through the chat box in EQ (I often block it) and the Auction Spot in Luclin is overcrowded and wasn't even implied to the game until 2 months after Luclin came out.

Yea you're right about horses being free (assuming free is you having the enough money to buy the bridles or getting lucky off the white/black bridles from Emp Ssra or Lord Inquisitor). And unlike EQ, at least you don't have to wait for so long to get horses/chocobos (60 for AA horses, and 60 to get into a party that will let you "roll" for the bridles or be rich and buy the bridles).

I will say yes for Solo's, but I hated that too, why cause I was a Paladin in EQ and IMO WIZ's, DRU's, BRD's, SHM's, ENC's that solo kite are gay to be honest (wyverns/otters in Cobalt Scar, Dwarves in Greater Fay, oh and PoP zones like PoV, PoN, PoD, HoH, BoT, PoStorms, PoJ (yes, I've seen people kite in this sorry *** excuse of a zone and the only good part about this is being able to access the Ele planes later on if you decide to go on with the story), and PoFire) They can spend all day doing nothing but that and gain tons of levels, while the melee's and other classes do it the normal way. Least in FFXI, it promotes you to socialize yourself with other people and not be a loaner (unless you like to be alone).

As for the buffing and spell effects, I do miss the root, but some buff effects are overpowered in a lot of ways (YAULP V for clerics, giving them haste while Paladins are shafted, MB'ing wizards, Clarity line spells, Snare, DOTS, PETS (mage pet is overpowered), SOW and AOE's). There are also some that are really awesome though (right clickies, EB items, see invis items, majority of the potions (Like Gate or Stalwarts regen), and invis).

As for the guild system, if you think about it, it's the same as an LS, except instead of being just invited to a guild or wait for a GM to approve your guild, here you just need an item to be in a Guild and you have to wear the item to be in the guild. I sorta do feel bad about that seeing that you can be in multiple ones then switch back and forth as you please, but again, it's another game, trying to be different from another.

No arguments here on the Storage area, only thing FFXI is missing is the bags to be honest. And even then, 10 slot bags that has weight reduction in EQ are expensive, and given if we calculate how much storage you get in EQ (10 slot bags, 16 slots *that's including the bank btw*) you'll have 160 slots, where in FFXI (Goobie IV *now V* is 55 and Mog Ex 80) you only get 135 "idividual" slots. But if this game had bags (with 10 slots each) it will have 1350 (135x10).

I will add a few features that he didn't mention that I'm happy that FFXI doesn't have. And that's your character having a weight limit (items vs your str), your consumption of food and water, and your endurance (I heard there are +endu items now).

Not near as many gil sellers in EQ?? I saw a bunch of EBay accounts and items sold through EBay before, but I guess that is different.

So that's my opinion between the two games, long rant and yada yada, and a lot of the former EQ players and current ones that's reading this thread might get pissed off at me, but hey, I'm stating my opinion like how Kagak is with his.

Ikari

P.S. I was part of the 3rd highest guild in Vallon Zek (Zephyros, and yes laugh all you want, I love that guild damn it), was a level 65 Paladin, didn't get the horse nor the title that I always wanted (Sir Riyoga, but instead I retired being Baron Riyoga ; ; ), but I was a Lord Protector. Died countless times on PvP but had fun in each and everyone of them. And the final raids I remember from my guild was in Vegarlson, the Earthen Badlands againts Tantisala, Temple of Solusek Ro againts the Xuzl and Drunder, Fortress of Zek vs the God of War himself, Rallos Zek.

Honestly, FFXI's style holds my attention. EQ is cheesy and boring, and WoW really doesn't intrest me very much. I think aside from the free RO back in the day, FFXI will be my first and last MMO, unless someone manages to make something besides typical crap in the future.

Not to mention, if you have ever played Everquest, you know just how annoying it is to craft items...and level up...and find armour...and level up again...and blah blah blah

FFXI has the very best crafting system I've ever seen. With EQ it was just "click, click, click" then it's crafted. With FFXI you not only have to "click click click" but also you have to find the best -time- to craft, which is definitely a cool aspect of the game ^..^

FFXI's battle system is also much much better than Everquest's. It looks better overall, and you can't forget the fact that Provoke, unlike Taunt in EQ, actually works.

So, as I like to say, Final Fantasy XI is like Everquest, only without the suck :D
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 23 2004 at 10:23 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) FFXi better than EQ???? SE does a decent job but they also have 1/3 the population that EQ has. Granted both games have their good and bad things about them, but look at the big picture EQ had way more variety of zones, weapons & armor, and the crafting was better, and how many people look the same on EQ? Only thing I really like about FFXi over EQ is the graphics, the AH and MH. Thats about it. Oh BTW anyone ever heard of EQ2?? Well you will soon it will rock FFXi.

Yeah, I'd assume that FFXI has well over 500,000 players worldwide by now, since they hit the 500k mark LONG before the EU release. EQ, being mostly in America, and I believe Canada and bits of Europe, MAYBE has about 500,000 players, and I'm being very generous.

EQ was a great game, despite technicalities; it is the James Brown of the genre. But one cannot deny that FFXI is simply a better game overall. Gameplay is better and much more defined, party dynamics blow away anything else on the market. Crafting is useful, and the Player-Run economy is the ONLY stable Player Run Economy in the MMO genre. The Quests are interesting, if generic, but the mini-cutscenes help add immersion. Everything is contextual, from crystal synth, to Conflict, to the Conquest of Vana'diel. And the missions add a nice FF storyline that unfolds as you grow in levels, and gives the whole story a nice, threaded, epic quest - which I might add is expanded every Expansion.

So, yeah, no one is knocking EQ. But FFXI is just a better game hands down, even if their ARE no Vah Shir (mithra don't count^^)

I thought I read on the FFXI home page that FFXI hit 1 million players. I know that number was up there and that Squenix was bragging. I might have misunderstood what the number was refering to, but I thought it said that FFXI has reached the 1,000,000 player mark.

I tried to check again, but I cant seem to find a headline archive on the website to double check.

I have never played EQ, so I dont have anything to add to anyones arguement.

Havent you ever checked how many ppl are online (/sea all) when i do this often reach 4000 so if we say this is same on each server it make 30*4000 = 120.000 online wow nice population.

Anyway i really like FFXI it is my first MMORPG and i am on it because i really like all FF, stories, abilities are most of time cool and graphisms r real nice.

I understand what you're saying, but just be glad that things are as smooth as they actually are.

I remember playing UO and suffering 48 hours rollbacks -- not fun!

With such a colossal piece of software, you could beta test a patch for 6 months and still experience issue. These minor glitches are trivial.

Grow up...

indeed, the minor glitches are nothing compared how other companies launch their expansions, i played games where the server would just happened to die, and the game was not online for a week, things like that, when it finaly gets back, their backup was gone and we had to roll back a 48 hours (this was not UO btw, it was "Redmoon")
or in this same game, they launched an patch and suddenly there were a lot of max. level chars around.. seemed their was a glitch that when u log out on a certain spot, and then log in again, u get one level :)

so naw, i dont really get bothered by the few bugs in the CoP expansion, as a matter of fact, i think square enix does a very good job on the total FFxi project, their even making new servers when old ones get overpopulated, thats something you dont see much
