I wish I could gain some weight from playing... I've been playing FFXI on average for 10+ hours a day since its release on PS2 and I've yet to gain any weight... :\

FF11, at least on my server, has been giving many people connection problems very frequently lately. I think the last maintenance was intended to be a "quick fix", but since it didn't work, I think they're trying to just end the problem solidly. Even with 8 hours, they'll have to move fast if they want to iron everything out by their self-imposed deadline. Given what this game is, I'm surprised they can accomplish ANY real fixing with only a 4-hour downtime.

The connection problems I've seen first hand myself... The thing about my connection issues I don't think are related to SqEn or FF11 servers. After I get dropped, I do a ping from another computer and cannot even get any reply from other webhosts...

I think they are probably going to put some pre-emptive Halloween and Christmas updates during this maintenance as well..

Happy ff11'ng

Why the hell does Square ALWAYS have to put these damn maintenance runs during prime hours? Can't they do it from like 3AMPDT-11AMPDT?

Geez... No wonder all the JPs not only constantly get the HNMs and crap, but are always getting 5 steps ahead of us... they dont get their prime time f'ed over by some company who likes one demographic more than the other... And I mean, I wouldnt even be surprised if there are MORE US players than JP players, yet the JPs get all the favors... No maintenance during prime hours, more specific information on various stat interactions, more sneak peaks on expansions, etc....

GRRRRRRRRR

uhhh...maybe because they are owned by JP? NA players are just a source of income, It is the JP players that matter to SE and POL.

I love how SE actually takes time on their games and tells us when there will be maintnance, it shows that they care about us, the customer. We shouldn't argue about missing game time 'cause if SE dint do this we would probably lose even more game time with crashing servers etc., It would also be pretty unfair because of bugs and people abusing them

I've notice lately when my ISP goes down, I get kicked off ffxi (duh), but when I do come back on, I'll get disconnected off ffxi and POL at the same time.. even though I'm connected back when my isp is back up, I'll still get kicked off again when I renter.

and it's true, many of you can do more things other than ffxi.

Haha, I don't know whether to be highly amused or irritated! WHY is it *I* appreciate the early warning of maintenance? WHY is it *I* am perfectly OKAY with it being a long maintenance time this time? WHY do I really look forward to logging back into FFXI after the maintenance is over?

Because, I understand the needs of their business, because I CAN find other things to do, and because I am looking forward to improved gameplay to an already great game. The improvement can either be less bugs that I may or may have been aware of previously, or because there's new content -- doesn't matter, either way is an improvement.

For those that complain about the secrecy as to the details, I HIGHLY doubt they are "hiding" mistakes, but rather they are PROTECTING YOUR GAMEPLAY. How? Because if they are fixing bugs, I would very much rather they fix the bug and then tell us there was a bug to avoid people trying to EXPLOIT those bugs to their advantage (and my disadvantage). If not fixing bugs and adding new content, then I would very much rather they kept that secret so that -- GUESS WHAT -- someone somewhere can stumble across new surprises in this fantasy role-playing game where you EXPLORE and do new things. When they added at least 3 new HNM's in the last update (among other things), what did they say they did? They said they adjusted monsters in the following areas, etc etc. Would you rather they say: "WE INTRODUCED NEW HNMS CALLED TIAMAT, JORMUNGAND, ETC ETC IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS". NO!

Those that complain, please THINK before you talk and amuse me further. :P

First of all, you are a jackass. There, now with that being said, I'd like to put in my two cents worth. Yes, maintenace is good. Yes, it does suck that it is eight hours. And yes, Mondays are one of my days off, so it does annoy me that I cannot play for a substantial portion of the day. I do have other things to do, it's just that I like to get in some time on my days off to get things done in game. And really, get over yourself. *I* think that some people, *YOU*, should find other things to comment on other than people venting on maintenance times.

Maintenance is my favorite thing!
SE
# Oct 15 2004 at 3:20 PM Rating: Default
Part of the problem is SE has the most ambiguous patch messages ever. I mean, what the hell is this for? All I see is that the servers will be down for 8 hours because SE screwed something up and they don't want to say what it is.

All you asses saying "get a life", ever think that maybe some people only have 2 hours a day to play during the week? With maintenance twice a week it cuts out a good portion of the time they could actually play the damn game?

Ask for a refund on your brain, while you're at it.
Can you sorry sobs find NOTHING else to do for 8 hours on a Monday? How about go to work? Walk your dog? Go to school? Watch some Tv? Read a book? Play Monopoly? Talk to your parents? Go out to eat with your friends? Go get your car washed?

I'm sure asking for a refund will accomplish zilch. Do you realize how much money they'd be out if they gave every single person a refund? Besides, as someone already stated, I think, it's in the agreement that "so sorry Charlie, deal with the maintenence."

Step back from your computers and your PS2. It's going to be ok. FFXI will have to go bye-bye for a little bit. Here's a tissue. Now go out and do something.

O.o A refund? You must live a sorri life if you cannot get by without ffxi for a mere 8 hrs. Literally. I think you need some help^^;

Would you rather have it so ffxi's Worlds go down a lot more, or nothing else new is introduced? Without maintenance, they can't really update anything. And I'd sure as hell like to be warned a good day or 2 in a advance about and 8 hr maintenace I can plan around then those little 1-2 hr ones that come outa nowhere.

I also always laugh when someone asks for a refund due to maintenance. They obviously have not done the math.

Ok,

Lets say that you pay 12.95 a month for your service. Divide that by 30 days in the month = $.43 a day. Divide that by 24 hours = .02 per hour. So for a 8 hour maintenance your "refund" would be 16 cents. Thats it. That is what you were jipped.

So please, lets stop complaining about our loss of less than a quarter. And go out and have a life.

RE: I'm asking for a refund...
# Oct 15 2004 at 3:23 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah, but if you "did the math" as your so fond of pointing out SE would have to pay that $.16 to 500,000 people.

$80,000

Think that might encourage them to get their crap together?
RE: I'm asking for a refund...
# Oct 15 2004 at 5:33 PM Rating: Decent
yes but thats just in play time, they are not making an extra 80,000 and I am very sure that somewhere in the rules that they made you click "yes" to when you installed the game, this is all included in there that this could and will happen. But since most people would probably just click yes and sooner sign away there lives then read something like that, they are the ones who will be bothered by SE keep doing 8 hour patches, but, why the hell would they do an Eight Hour Patch if they didnt have a reason? so just sit it out, and go play something else...

Do you know the reasons for this maintenance?
Usually, SE warn us that if there is a maintenance, they will check/fix this and this and said bug will be checkek and etc...
But for this one, its only going to be shut for some time, and I don't think it will be to defrag the HDD, they have done it lately.

Does it continue to shock anybody else that whenever there's maintenance, people make the same complaint about it? Frankly, I'm quite bothered that some of these constant complainers are still playing if they are so very put out by a little bit of time they can't spend killing rabbits. Anyway, before this post gets ridiculous, I'll leave it be.

The point is, just bloody deal with it, it's not going to stop.

Why, why, why, why, WHY does EVERY SINGLE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE happen during NA primetime? This is taking place from 11 to 7 for me, and on my day off!! Why can't the schedule a maintenace starting at about 4 PDT until 12 PDT for a change, and fix things while I'm asleep?
RE: Another NA primetime maintenance...
# Oct 15 2004 at 1:35 PM Rating: Decent
Last time I checked, Prime time started around 7:00PM and went until 10:00PM. I dont think noon is "prime time" in any companies book. so this comment is partially wrong. as for it ending at 7:00, ya it sucks, it ends at 8:00 for me. but there are other things that I can do (like homework and getting ready for My last quarter of classes at college). unfortunetly, SE cant please everyone at once, so **** and moan like you want, but then shut up and take it. Whining about it wont get it back up any sooner.

actually, he was talking about the game's north american primetime, which is about 1PM EST to 7PM EST (about the time that kids get out of school, adults get out of work), not television's primetime, which is the time you speak of.

Because the NA servers are on the west coast. All NA customer service and help is dopme during "regular" business hours west coast time. Just be glad they are fixing the problem now before it gets worse.

What is with all the maintenance lately? It seems that ever since the patch just before CoP's release, there's been a ton of maintenance and downtime. It's getting kinda ridiculous here.
RE: A Common Trend

Would you rather play a MMORPG that is buggy and messes up all the time? Be glad that SE cares enough about it's players to give us constant updates and routine checks. Otherwise, we'd have a really buggy MMORPG, and that's a lot more frustrating than an 8-hour maintenance every other week or so.
RE: A Common Trend
# Oct 15 2004 at 3:38 PM Rating: Decent
i think the point he's getting at is the fact that it's so frequent.

what bug came up in the last 24 hours that demands 8 hours(+/-) of maintenance and is so small they didn't notice it during the maintenance yesterday?

yeah, i'm all for a well kept game. but as far as i could tell, everything was running fine until they decided to shut down for an 8 hour maintenance that could've been taken care of during yesterday's maintenance most likely.
RE: A Common Trend
# Oct 15 2004 at 10:01 PM Rating: Excellent
True, but usually during the 8-hour maintenance periods, they're doing more than fixing just a couple of bugs that happened in the past 24 hours. Notice that they've mentioned that they are *updating* not only FFXI, but Tetra Master and POL as well.

And why are people rating me down for speaking the truth? If you're going to rate me or anyone else down, at least post WHY you're doing it.

I believe that one of the statements in the EULA is that you can never demand or receive free play time in exchange for the hours lost due to maintenance.

Those darn SE lawyers thought of everything...

CCP that runs EVE Online give a few days if maintenance is taking too long... i think SE should do the same this time...
