For all the crap that's been happening this past week with the servers, would be nice if we could get a partial refund. But no, hell would freeze over before something like that ever happened regardless....

A partial refund would be nice (and about as likely as a Level 1 Taru WAR soloing Fenrir), but realistically - even if they pro-rated the the monthly fee for "time lost," they would give us back one day at most. That's 1/30th of $12.95. Not exactly an amount I'm gonna waste time griping over.

The only thing you can do is wait. Until tomorrow, if you can wait that long.

Seriously. :-)

The nightmare will end. You will be able to get slaughtered by IT's and lvl down within a couple of days.

Once again all I hear is people ******** about how long it takes or timeouts. Ok this happens EVERY TIME there is a major update, this is nothing new. When you have millions of people all connecting to the servers to get updates, it happens. The same thing happens when Microsoft releases a major update, or Symantec releases a major virus problem update. Millions and millions of users are trying to do the update at the same time. If you cannot connect, why don't you take some time of your day and handle some real life stuff rather than logging on for one day. Yes I love the game and I can't wait to get on ASAP, but I have the decency to understand that there are others too that want to get the same update, so I will continue waiting until I get my chance. It has only been 8 hours since the start of the update, so CHILL OUT!

I'm calm. Believe it or not (and don't hit me people), I think it's kinda funny.

And seeing as I don't really have anything else that needs to be done until Saturday, this gives me a chance to actually READ some of the forums on here instead of just fishing for information about a quest I'm stuck on or somethin neat that I saw.

Being a tech-type person, I can't help but wonder what SE's server farm looks like. Times like these give me mental pictures of computer-like boxes that, when you take the cover off, are powered by little hamsters running in wheels.... :-)

lol, i don't see hamster's, i see cockroaches or something else small and useless. you got to admit though, when this kind of stuff happens everytime an update happens, you would think they would fix by now. Smaller updates, server mirrors, something! Game content updates are great, if you can actually get in and play =(
~Clicks on the retry button again~

Oh well...

Ah, a server farm with mirrored systems and built-in failsafes including distributed servers around the globe with multiple backbone connections....

Guess that thought never occurred to them. Oh well.

SE is stupid for making an Update at the time of DDoS attacks which btw, they still can't find the source of the attacks nor could they fix the problems we have. Also the recent "Login" problems isn't helping with the dl of the patch as well. Damn you SE ::shakes fist:: and here's a thought, how bout playonline.com support the patch on their site so the game wouldn't crash or time out like this ::durrrrrrrrrrrrr::
Stop!

Heh, got to 1% on the third progress bar, then I got the POL0010. Yay, more waiting.

Got home at 7 PM CST. Boyfriend's asleep on the couch with the PS2 on and an FFXI version update download. "Oh, ****."

Go to the PC in the office. It's displaying a timeout error. No big deal. Hit retry. Same error pops up.

2 hours later, wake boyfriend up to go to work. PS2's about 75% done downloading. Still no connection for PC.

1 hour after that, PS2's done (no errors - can you friggin BELIVE it?!), I log in under his char to try and get his f-ing ruby for Summoner while he's at work. PC still won't download. I'm fighting leeches in Bubu as a lvl 30 WHM with lvl 20 equip. Ya, his char's got no gil and a free bloodport back to windy. Still no-go on PC.

Decide to log off PS2 under his account, exit my account on PC, and switch. Log in under his account on PC, attempt to update - still a no-go. Log onto PS2 under my account (now remember, this one has the update installed).

Now is when things start flying across the apartment and the neighbors think someone's being murdered :-)

Not only can I not get my PC copy updated, but I can't log in on the PS2.

The lesson to be learned here: If you manage to get logged in, do not log out for any reason. Find a safe place to hide. Rest. Set your idle timeout to "OFF". Maybe, if you're lucky, you can pick up where you left off tomorrow :-)

If these people are right and we don't get to play for weeks at a time I am going to call SE and get a refund. I'm not paying to sit here and get screwed every time they try and fix something that ISN'T REALLY BROKEN ANYWAY!

Its called an "Update" for a reason... its not because its broken and being fixed...its being UPDATED!

I was talking about all the other bugs they've tried to work out. But anyway, good job! You managed to figure out that "Updating" isn't the same as "Fixing"!

Know the irony of a lot of this, during the period which SE professed they were getting attacked by DDoS (distributed denial of service) they seemed somewhat stable, now that they've fixed everything, they have, for all intents and purposes, affected a denial of service on themselves by being unprepared in the bandwidth department....amazing to me with the recurring revenue they get from us.

Gee, all that new stuff sounds great. Sure wish I could log on and actually see some of it. Heck, at this point I'd just like to log on and be working on my pre-patch 34k tnl than sitting here looking at the error message of Doom. Oh, well, in a week or two I'll get on and then I can get 66. Suuuuuuure will be nice. Dedicated Bandwidth, SE, they've mastered the concept of standing in line in Elementary School cafeterias, why not on one of the most modern MMORPGs? {Experience Points} {Can I have it?}

Ok, rant done, I feel better now >_>

Trying to DL this patch is usless. Before work, I actually got on, and started the Download, when i was finally ready for work, the download at 87%, BOOM! Error Code: POL0010.

Definition of POL0010: Our servers Blow cause this happens all the time. Don't bother trying to connect, cause you won't be able to play for 3 days anyway. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I have to agree, that the last 2 months Server problems have been rather often. Everytime I sign on, there is a message saying something is wrong. I love this game, but this is repetative. They post how wonderful it is that 1 Million people have registered on FFXI, but they don't prepare for all 1 million to Download the patch. I'm done preaching.

As far as the patch is concerned, it seems ok to me. The Exp thing is what most people are worried about. I haven't had the luxury of being 75 with the old system, but I think people were complaining that the end game content is un reachable for some people. Like people who go to school and work full time, who can only play a few hours a week. Hopefully this will keep them interested. Also I think WoW put a dent in FFXI and they are trying to find reason to pull some people back, like the "Return to Vanadiel" thing. We'll see, but if you not already 75, i would say be prepared to be rideculed.
