[Hmmm.] My grasp is like the olden days of blue...
a Prime pseudo tank / DD puller / SATA friend.

Just from the screenies I can get a grasp of what there is to possibly come. I'm guessing That since there is no weapons shown, blu weapon range might be like a war's from h2h to 2handed weapon. or is like mnks, h2h for less deleay to keep hate on you to build up the Mobs TP fast to get hit.

But I can see alot of jobs being left behind and alot of jobs becoming better with /blu.
I.E. drg/blu might be something that will just clean an area. blu/bst probably prime solo to get the extra Skills. or blu/thf sata sickle slash or death scissors since they already hardcore crit hitters they be great for hate placers and to keep the mob's attention.

but i'm probbaly be one of the 450+ blu lfg in the Dunes XD just cause its something different and I cant wait.

Blue Mage Job
# Oct 01 2005 at 12:01 AM Rating: Decent
Found this at http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3144199&did=1 giving more detail on the Blue Mage job...looks to be awesome

For the first time since the Rise of the Zilart expansion (included free in every copy of the North American release of FFXI) the dev team has seen fit to add a new job, the oft-rumored Blue Mage. The official Blue Mage description, according to Square-Enix, says "Employing the legendary arts of Aht Urhgan, these formidable fighter-mages employ elegantly curved blades for close combat, while decimating their enemies from afar with fell magic mastered from their opponents." In layman's terms, this means the Blue Mages will be even more direct-combat focused than game's existing Red Mages. The way Blue Mages learn their abilities is by learning the skills enemies use to attack them with, which can be seen in one of the screenshots where a Blue Mage is using Spider Web (most likely not the official name of the spell), or another where he's using Fire Breath like a wyvern. Basically the new job class functions like a Mimic, and it'll be interesting see how high-level Blue Mages get their most powerful attacks. (Can they learn Meteor if they get hit with one from King Behemoth? Hmm.) In these debut screenshots of the Blues they're shown wearing their artifact gear. No mention of whether existing armor will be patched to accommodate low-level Blue Mages, or if they'll simply add more gear to clog your mog house with.

Blue Mage 2Hr
# Sep 30 2005 at 11:07 PM Rating: Decent
Think about this for a second. What if the 2Hr would be to learn an ability? At some point you would have to have all of the abilities obtainable, but once you get them all, you can do a big damage move kind of like Eagle Eye Shot, but instead, you use Ultima? I think it would be cool. Ultima, as far as I have seen (which isn't a lot since I'm not even level 75 in a single job), isn't in the game. I did a search item on this site and there is an Ultima weapon which is Auto-collection, meaning it isn't in the game (yet), and that is usable by Paladin only at level 80.
More to think about...

i really doubt Blu will be TP based. And from CrimsonSoldier's comment/quote "while decimating enemies from afar with fell magic mastered from their opponents." Seems that if Blu is TP based the only feasible thing i can think of is that it would work more like a weapon skill. the more TP u have the better the spell has to stick or the harder the spell will hit. And from that quote i dont think SE is trying to make Blu a tank job. Cant really Tank from afar.

The main thing is this job is called a Blue-MAGE. I dont know any mage that doesnt use MP. Now of course the functions in the party could be different but i think this will definitely be a MAGE type job.

10,000 Needles? probably not only cause that would make Blu extremely powerful. There is no way SE is gonna give Blu 10,000 needles or curse. That would make them Extremely strong.

My guess is that they might even make the spell learning ability level based. As in u cant learn Bomb Toss till level 5 or u cant learn an ability from a mob unless that mob is within a certain range of your level or your level or beneath. If they made it so that u can learn every skill at level 1 then u could just have ur high level friends bring u too a highlevel place and then get owned over and over again as they keep raising u since at level one u dont lose any XP.

I believe someone said that they think the 2hour would allow them to learn the enemy skill. Now that is interesting and makes alot of since. You would be able to learn skills too fast or become really strong really quickly. That is a very interesting idea.

And alot of ppl might hate this but hope that Blu can only be unlocked at level 60+. that way there wont be 200 Blu's running around the dunes lfp.

And i heard that Geomancer might one of the new jobs. lol not to be confused with Necromancer.

lol we all have our opinions

Both....?
# Sep 30 2005 at 10:41 PM Rating: Decent
Maybe blue mages will use both mp and tp for the abilites give em some mp abilities and some tp abilites.... and as far as acquiring the abilites maybe you get them from items like in FF8 give mobs rare item drops that give you the abilities guarentee the price will be threw the roof tho if you have to be 60+ to even get the job and why 60+ why not 50+ ........
RE: Both....?
# Oct 01 2005 at 5:12 PM Rating: Decent
i m thinking 60+ because the last time u could get advanced jobs at 30+,

not sure, hope its 50 tho, i m only at 52 lol

This sure does look nice. The movie on Playonline.com sure looks tantalizing. I doubt this Blue Mage job will allow level 20 folks to use 1,000 needles of Meteor. All the Blue Mage spells will probably be something you can only learn at a certain level. For example at level 10 you would get the "Lancet" ability, or whatever you to call it. And then you only can absorb certain skills. Like at level 10 you could absorb Feather Storm from the Yagudo or Shell Guard or whatever. 1,000 needles would probably be a level 50 spell and Meteor (if SE even allows that) would be 70+. That would be for the sake of balance. Of course they could make it where a Blue Mage has to get hit with a spell and survive it to learn. It would sure be hard for any Mage type job to survive 1,000 Needles or Meteor. Of course that leaves in question the 2 hour. If you only hbad a 60 second window to absorb an ability every 2-hours, that would sure make life interesting for a lot of folks. It would take forever to get all the abilities, but a Blue Mage who did would certainly be powerful.

im with you. like someone said you might have a high lvl friend who could take you somewhere and learn all the spells at lvl 1. well maybe they will get a move like he said "Lancet" or whatever and they can absorb new abilities. BUT maybe the move could be CHR based and that why they cant go to lvl 70+ mobs and get all the spells. kinda like taking a lvl 1 BRD to ....well anywhere and trying to us requiem and seeing if it sticks. so i guess it would make blue mage have to travel all over to absorb spells when they are the right lvl.

Bst might be useful in aquiring some of the blu abilities if theyre done like the blue magic from older ff games. However, do we all remember "lancet" by which one can both do dmg and steal abilities? This seems more in line with how SE has balanced the game so far. Im not saying definetly, things may change alot with the new exp pack, but having to let your blu tank in exp party to learn any abilities that are better than those used by soloable mobs doesnt really seem doable. Also does anyone know if the taru in 2nd pic has a new hairstyle or if thats part of his blu pimp hat. And please, please SE, paladin needs shield ws's and ninja needs throwing ws's.

about the hair, if you look at the picture above the taru, the blue part is still the hat, so it's not a blue haired taru with a pony tail, its a taru with that hat which apparently has that little tail thing dangling from the back

I really don't mean to burst everyone's bubble... but don't you think that SE would have made it so that BLU won't be doing uber Damage with 1000 needles, at low lvls atleast. I mean, come on... you'd be able to solo till 20 in a week. My bet is, they made it so that you have to use the 2hour to absorb the ability, but it won't be as powerful as the full thing. It'll gain those as magic and they will use MP, not TP, after all it is a mage were talking about here. IMO, BLU will be one of those jobs which sounds awesome, but is only really usefull at a high lvl, thereby having to solo, like I have seen BST's (and for some insane reason some DRG's) do, for the most part.

Someone mentioned 3 new jobs... hmmmm...

(That's interesting.)

Anyone got more info on this?

Regarding 1000 needles, I have thought about it and I don't think they will add this skill to the Blue Mage abilities. Reasons being is: One, 1000 needles would be a guaranteed hit basically, eating through any defense except for Invincible and maybe even Perfect Dodge. Two, being able to use this ability in Ballista would be very hazardous, you would see nothing but Blue Mages running around (or at least in my vision). Three, at level 50+ Black Mage, this is the real first time I have ever seen someone do close to or above 1000 damage from a magic burst and if the mob doesn't die by it, the Black Mage who did the damage gets a large amount of hate. If a Blue Mage were to do this in an experience party, it would serve the same effect as a Black Mage doing a magic burst, he would get hate, not being able to do anything about it and die.

As far as the 3 new jobs go, I have heard rumors as well, and they are Blue Mage, Calculator, and Geomancer. Note that these are just rumors, I'm sure SE would show in the near future if there would be any new jobs to be expected. There was that one picture before of a Galka riding a chocobo in practically pure yellow gear. Perhaps that is a new job, but then again, that could be a Paladin in Lord gear.

in my opinion that is what makes this the perfict sub for drg we can get all the hate in the world and lose it in a single JA :)

in other FF games usually a Blu would have to hit by the spell to learn it
RE: BLU
# Oct 01 2005 at 10:36 AM Rating: Decent
i guess i'll put it here.

in historical terms, blue mages had to be hit by the spell, survive it, and finish the battle. reraise worked to survive the sure-kill spells, and controlling was necessary for some of the buffer or healing spells (cough, white wind, cough)

in MOST incarnations of the BUM (BLU is too easy, and BUM makes me laugh a little) the ability allowing them to learn the skill was simply called Learning. and to top it all off, all skills used MP with very few exceptions.

i could also see them adding monster skills to monsters that are already in but don't have the spell/skill(i haven't seen) in the game.

goblin hammer = 1/2 MP (Drinks the Ballista WHM/BLM blood)
White Wind = Healer role in PT
Trine = AoE, lightning damage, Nuker role (farming with BLU)

How i forsee things. the BLU 2hr would be related to speed of casting, mp usage, (cough, level limit release[see later]) or some other mage aspect of actually USING the skills, not GETTING the skills, or else ALL the skills would be acquired VERY QUICKLY thru almost surgical hunting/farming and HLPT tanking
i could forsee the BLU lvl5 skill is 'learning' which activates on a 2min dur/5min reuse, making it require a little skill to use. and besides, how many monsters, in PT, i'm not considering BCNM here, take longer than 2 or 3 minutes to kill, course, i'm also not a high level, but i know a little about the mid-game and end-game from the guy that introduced me to it.
another thought, perhaps the skills can be learned, at early levels thru normal monsters, at later levels, thru BCNM or NM monsters, and, at all levels, have LEVEL REQUIREMENTS TO USE (1000 needles would work as a lvl 70 spell for example) consider, in history, many of the skills came from monsters you couldn't even SEE Till you were high level in the game, mostly because you couldn't get there. in this game you can get anywhere with the right escort at nearly any level, so they'd have to limit them some other way, level requirements makes sense to me...

consider 1000 needles with it's massive damage or whitewind being PT heal and both having a 2 minute recast timer and 250mp cost. then consider using them for free, or 3 times quickly, or at any level as long (as you can afford the MP)

no level limit for the spells? aight, imagine the hate with a BLM/BLU uses Mana Font and then pops off White Wind for a MASSIVE PT heal, and then 1000 needles on the NM target, and he survives, oh hell, :hides behind the taru:

Forgot to mention in an interview i forgot where that was translated from JP SE said that the current "advanced jobs" aren't actually recognized by SE as advanced jobs but as extra jobs only. Meaning that you will probably need a 60+ job before your able to unlock these 3 new rumored jobs.

Hmmm this looks awesome the landscape is breath taking. As for the city i doubt it will be small just look at the size of it looks like its gonna be the size of windy with modern persian type architecture just look at the roof tops. Honestly this looks like the best expansion coming out even better then Zilart and that opened up alot of nice things. Would be awesome if you could start off in this city and even change nations and such with many new missions. I've heard that beta testing starts in november or so with the expansion being released in december alot of people are saying its stupid to release the expansion after xbox 360 release. I'm thinking this october expansion will add many new things so the new players also get entertained with some new content.
