RMT Countermeasures

From Square-Enix: Since the end of last year, item values have risen astronomically on all Worlds due to the manipulation of prices by a small percentage of the player base. The development team and the GMs carried out a detailed investigation of this problem, and discovered the existence of a group using illicit methods to produce large amounts of gil that are later sold in the real world (Real Money Trading). We would like to take this opportunity to outline the measures that have been taken to correct this issue. Based on the results of this investigation, more than 700 accounts among those found to be involved in large-scale RMT operations have been terminated. We will continue to monitor accounts suspected of dealing in gil created or obtained in an unfair manner. Thanks to these measures, more than 300 billion gil has been removed from circulation, and the overly inflated prices of items have begun to fall to more realistic levels. Furthermore, emergency maintenance has already been performed on all worlds for the purpose of implementing RMT countermeasures. This maintenance took place over two stages, starting on January 17th. As has been previously stated, acts of RMT will not be tolerated in FINAL FANTASY XI, and any violations of the user agreement will be dealt with severely. We would like to assure our players that all efforts are being made to ensure a fair playing experience. We hope to have your continuing understanding and cooperation in creating a Vana'diel that everyone can enjoy.

What a perfect time to start leveling a new job! All those gil sellers will be working hard to get back up to lvl 75, ha ha.

Seriously, though... Great job, SE!

Don't stop the fight!

well I too heared about the hype of them removing the rmt's. I too did a /sea all and still found the group of gil sellers still doing there thing on my server. witch is Garuda. So I think it was more of a selective weeding. SE is behind it all.
they just went after the ones that bit the hand that was feeding them.
RE: ya right
# Feb 10 2006 at 7:03 AM Rating: Default
I don't think SE did anything at all. I think they made up this lie to try to make their customers happy and to try to convince people to sell their stuff at lower prices.
Goodbye bad economy

Thx SE for taking steps to fix Economical problems we having for these past months!
Gilsellers>>Kiss ur obsolete lives goodbye;thats what happens when u guys get cocky and brave...
Gilbuyers>>I sincerely hope SE comes down so hard on you that when they hit ya,your eye will come out of your eye sockets...you are the MAIN REASON why the f@#$*%s above manipulated this game for so long thats it's ridicule....U bring the demand to illegal RMT.
------------------------------------------------
Soon enough these servers will be free of Buttplugs like you guys, hope you rot in your own stench!and SE keep up the good work, slow and steady.....hehehehe
easy fix?
# Feb 09 2006 at 9:22 PM Rating: Decent
Why can't SE just go to these sites... buy gil, then ban whoever sends them the gil? I think that would make the gil sellers a little weary about selling

Congratulations to everyone who had RMT aka gilsellers removed from their server. Personally, I did a /search for the known RMT on my server Seraph and wasnt very suprised to still find all of them still here.

Oh well, I've reported MPKs and bots and nothing was ever done about it. Guess thats why I didn't get too excited when I heard about this. Anyway...

Yea, Scion on Leviathan brags about buying and selling gil all the time. I wonder if he is still here. God I hate him.

maybe now if they get rid of all botters/sellers they can make most NM drops non rare/ex to lower prices more.

lol sounds like you got it all planned out!

Personally I beleive that SE can't eliminate the subject of gillsellers or buyers. But taking 300 billion gil out of there hands is a large hit. I'm sure that if SE keeps it up, for most part it will be to much trouble to be worth while for the majoraty of players. Either way maybe they can't eliminate it but it is nice to see that they're putting up a few road blocks. I feel they were and still are very needed.

300 Billion Gil gone with the snap of a finger.
700 accounts that obtained gil illegally, be them RMT or Gilbuyers.

I applaud SE for taking out the inflation and removing some of the Gilsellers/Gilbuyers from the game.

Now, as far as I am concerned, SE took action. And they did it right. And hopefully, everyone that was banned was done so fairly. The last thing any of us want is a witch hunt, and we all know how THAT turned out.

Did i read the write up wrong or did they say their was like fake gil being made as well? I think that would easily identify you as a gil seller.

Gilseller kills the goblin thug.
You find 70,000,000.

I think that would identify you as a gilseller...

Seems that way. People hack this game all the time. My friend was hacked, lost almost everything. They even delvled her. She was able to get her lvls restored, but SE never compensated her for her losses in gil and items. They need to impliment more safeguards to prevent hacking. One reason I don't like the PC version of FFXI is because it makes it easier to hack. Removing the gil from the economy may be a good thing, but we all know what government intervention in the US economy did, don't we?

All is all, I thank SE, but there is still so much more that could be done that isn't. I tire of the lack of service. The times I've called their help line to try and sort things out, they not only don't know what they are talking about or they can't do anything without consulting someone else. >.< I mean come on. Even I read the user agreement. These people should know it inside and out.

This was a HUGE hit to gil selllers. Just go look at the IGE website. On my server (well used to be my server b4 i cancled), Carbuncle, there is NO gil for sale. On other servers, where 2 million used to be around 15 dollars, it has shot all the way back up to 35$! This is huge.
nice try
# Feb 09 2006 at 4:54 PM Rating: Default
Even though SE deleted some of the accounts of gil sellers they could easily buy a account pre made and start gil selling again in no time. To combat gil sellers is to stop the sites that sell gil to the noobs. thats the only way
RE: nice try
# Feb 09 2006 at 5:46 PM Rating: Default
yes, but, by law, they can't do that. you think governments give a sh*t about a company's ToS? you think they give a sh*t about some virtual economy? ...they don't.

and the problem ain't the sellers, its the BUYERS. the people who're f*cktarded enough to CAUSE this sh*t to happen. its a proven fact. eliminating the supply directly will only cause a black market to form. you have to either sell gil directly (ie SE offers the gil) or kill off buyers to set an example. THAT is what must happen to control the situation.

YOU apparently never learned the principles of criminal economics.

Actually they can legally have them shut down and for reasons that have nothing to do with the ToS. You see, SE owns a copyright to the terms "Final Fantasy" and "Gil" they also own the intellectual property held within the game. And as such the gil selling sites are violating copyright laws protecting the owner of said intellectual property.

Now I know someone is going to point out that the companies selling the gil are in countries that are not the USA, UK or Japan. Well that doesnt matter, they have websites based off of a US/UK/JPN server then yes the company is held responsible for following any laws that are enforced within US/UK/JPN.

SE did a great job STARTING the crackdown on this, yes it took them way too long to do but at least they are doing something. Only time will tell if they actually continue.

I usually don't compliment SE, because they rarely ever do anything right, but cutting 300 billion out of RMT pockets is far more effective then banning the farmers.

They can always get new characters. 300 billion is not replaceable.

Ummm unfortunatly Mil'Breth SE is an international company with it's own branch in the US. Not all sellers are chinese or vietnamese. SE can go after anyone they so choose so because they are international thats why they could have authorities anywhere go after people who make windowers, hackers, and etc. So by all means can they go in internationally controlled places and sue them, but sueing the sites would be easier seeing as though they have a list of sellers then sue those who sell it.

USA captured the so called "Saddam Hussein"

Are you insinuating that his name isn't Saddam Hussein? Because I'm pretty sure that is his name.

At any rate. I half agree with you.

There will always be a terrorist presense. Mainly because if you kill all the terrorists, that will just make more people realize that the killERs are the real "terrorists" and will then become terrorists to avenge their comrads and countrymen.

However, SE has a trump card. They have all the game data at their fingertips. Litteraly nothing can happen in the game without it being recorded somewhere. And if you have somewhat compitent people running senarios and pulling that data properly, you can find people to track, and catch them and all of their co-horts.
Terrorists can hide because (to my knowledge) there is no computer system at the heart of the world that tracks everybody on the planet's every movement.

I do, however, think it is funny that the gil sellers were their own worst enemy. SE Said they were going to start looking, so what do they do? They jack up the prices on everything. LOL dumbasses.
RMT countermeasures

Here on Titan Vermy is 16M and Nobles like 32. i dont know what kinda prices SE had in mind when they created the economical system, but i certainly hope that it wasnt supposed to be that high.Remember the good old days when a potion in a ff game cost like 50g and stacked?>LOL Anyway, i doubt that would happen in this case, but you get the idea. Well, i certainly hope that these measures work the way they are supposed to. I think if we all pitch in and help we will get somewhere. For example, i put a 200k earring up for 100k today. Hopefully there are others like us out there who give a crap about fairness and reasonablity. Thats my 2cents worth.

Huh, if I do my math right its about 17.6Billion, or 17,600,000,000 removed from each server... with the price of the KC at 300million on Bismark, thats almost 60 KC removed from each server. Not bad at all.
Worried
# Feb 09 2006 at 3:08 PM Rating: Decent
I am semi-worried about this i trust S-E wholeheartedly but how did they distinguish between gilsellers and say someone whos camping something to just earn gil not to sell. for instance my friend is a beastmaster and keeps a mule @ spook and logs to it every night in game so he can make money. He then sends it to his main. how can they tell the difference between this and gil selling? i mean he gives me gil on ocasion (when im like a few k short for say a stack of tools for kaiton (i am a ninja my character profile is un updated) they may suspect hima gil seller and me a gil buyer i just hope that i dont get banned for something like this happeneing! just my 2cents thx ^_^
RE: Worried
# Feb 09 2006 at 4:06 PM Rating: Decent
they wouldnt even have to do that. Just follow where all the money goes. They are SE, they have all of your game info... and I'm pretty sure they could pull up anything they goddamn want to and run all kinds of cross reference / gil flow pattern analysis for anything they want.
RE: Worried
# Feb 09 2006 at 3:43 PM Rating: Decent
What SE did was actually buy a small amount of gil from each server. The person that sent the gil to them was traced back to any account that traded the gil to it, which was matched up with previous GM calls involving those account with accusations of them being an RMT and general behavior of that person or account in items sold by them.

This isnt confirmed however, but it realy does make sense.
