The Feast of Swords

Vana'diel is once again gearing up for the Feast of Swords, a Far Eastern festival in which town residents celebrate their sons' healthy growth by raising banners decorated with enormous fish, and dressing the towns' male youth in armor for mock fights. Many citizens of Vana'diel still remember the chaos of the last Feast of Swords, when the priceless armor the Mog House Management Union (M.H.M.U.) borrowed from the Far East was stolen. Thanks to the efforts of the adventurers, the armor ended up with back its Far Eastern owners just in time, but the near diplomatic near-disaster had everyone in a cold sweat for days. Many seasons have passed since the international incident, and everyone expected the M.H.M.U. to have abandoned all hopes for the Feast of Swords...until now. Rumor has it that the M.H.M.U. was determined this time to create the perfect festival this time, and persisted in its pleas until the Far East finally gave in--and the Genji family lent them their legendary armor once more. The moogles busily scurried around to make the preparations, and everything seemed to be in order...or so they thought. Flash back to a few months ago. A cargo ship arrived carrying the Far Eastern armor, but it was disguised as an Aht Urhgan trading vessel. The reason for this deception was simple. The Far East stated that the Genji armor is a national treasure, and they did not want it taken while traveling through Aht Urhgan territorial waters. However, what seemed to be a prudent course of action ended up causing an even greater predicament than last year's incident... The ship was immediately set upon by Near Eastern pirates after docking at the Mighoya Dunes on the continent of Mindartia. The pirates' leader, Barracuda Myu, had followed the vessel all the way from the Cyan Deep, believing that it carried powerful Aht Urhgan weapons. Fortunately (or unfortunately?) for the Far Eastern crew, the Federal Forces of Windurst appeared to save the day. However, when Myu's gang was surrounded and left with nowhere to run, they turned to drastic measures. Upon learning that the ship actually carried sets of priceless armor, they devised a plan to escape wearing the cargo. They reasoned that surely no one would risk harming a national treasure. And so, the moogles call on the adventurers to save them from yet another prickly situation. The master carpenter Kupelcian has once again begun production of a special weapon designed to inflict no scratches or dents on the treasure. Take up the wooden katana once more and save the invaluable armor from the pirates! The dignity of the M.H.M.U.--no, of the Middle Lands--can only be preserved by your actions! [Event Participation] -Speak to an event moogle in one of the three main nations to receive a lotus katana. -Once you have a wooden katana or a lotus katana, speak to a nomad moogle to participate in the event. -While participating in the event, you will be restricted to level 1, but your movement speed will increase. Please note that any equipment that you are wearing that is for level 2 or higher will automatically be removed. -You cannot attack or be attacked by regular monsters during the event. [Event Schedule] This event is scheduled to begin on April 27 at 17:00 and end on May 11 at 0:00 (PDT).

Just wondering if by defeating armours near jeuno you can get a jeuno teleport ring, as would be very handy

ok I don't post very often in these forums but I am constantly here for info...I just wanted to let everyone know that I have gotten the Chocobo Stable Neckpieces from all different Armor types. I have also gotten 2 out of 3 of them all solo. Took me a bunch of kills in West Ron to get 2 Kingdom Collars (one for my fiancee in pt with her, 1 solo for me after she logged off...got mine in 1 kill), 3 kills in West Saru for Federation Scarf (solo), and lots more kills in South Gusty for my Republic Medal (but in pt with 2 other ppl). So it seems doing them solo is much quicker to get the neckpieces and I have gotten them all...you don't need to kill the Mithra Armor for them at all...you can completely avoid killing her. Going solo I was WHM/RNG (idea I got from these posts) and using Protect (before talking to Moogle) and Selbina Milk (also idea from these posts) kept me alive very easily to solo them. When they use their Toxin ability run away a short distance and you can avoid the Dia effect...the Edge of Death I would run away and just let the Selb Milk heal me (or cure) till the Armor came after me...by then I would have about 7-8 HPs and with the Milk and Protect in effect I wouldent drop below 6 HPs. Use the Widescan on RNG to make sure that Mithra isnt near you...if you see her..run away and pull the Armor to a safe location. So good luck everyone and happy hunting!

Yeah running away works like a charm. Occasionally lose hate, but it's not too hard to find again if you've got /rng.

The Medicine Drops almost exactly reflect the element of gemmed rings [Ballance Ring (purple) = Dexterity]:
Black Drop = Instant Warp
Blue Drop = Mind +5
Clear Drop = Intelligence +5
Red Drop = Strength +5
Purple Drop = Dexterity +5
White Drop = Charisma +5
Green Drop = Agility +5
Yellow Drop = Vitality +5
These medicines only last for 15 minutes and you remain "medicated" for like an hour (meaning you can't take another medicine until it wears).

Was doing this quest with my mule in la thiene, running all over the place. All of a sudden I see a /sh <t> Flee Hacking!

The last hit thing does suck, but imo having Flee more than makes up for it. I did this event for hours yesterday. FYI with protect I up and Selbina Milk you can negate all melee damage besides random criticals. Took my mule (Taru whm) about 10 freaking minutes to solo the Galka armor lol. I had the taru down to about 2 hp at the tele-pad at Holla and the mithra comes up behind me and one-shots me >.<;
Well, he was almost dead anyhow ....

Soloing Armors
# Apr 29 2006 at 12:27 PM Rating: Good
39 posts
Common thread I've seen is that people complain about the drop rate/lot rate when in large alliances. If I was with 18 people and we killed an Armor for 1 colored drop and 8 mochi I think I would be miffed too.

People choose to be in an alliance because it means better survivability and success. However the Armors except the Usukane Armor can be soloed very well. When you solo them you can get all the drops.

Concerning the Gold Carps. These are symbolizing the real life event Tango-no-Sekku

Perhaps a few tips could help with soloing these (check this link or CosmicEnigma and go to the forum):

1. I make my own au Laits but they help tremendously. Two of them will last for an entire solo fight of an Armor and give you an HP regen. If you can not make or buy au Laits you can get Selbina Milk which gives you 1 HP Regen every 3 seconds for 2 minutes, 40 total. Selbina Milk will not be enough to deal with a consistent onslaught of the Armors and their abilities but can help.

2. A good attack food helps greatly. An attack/evasion food like Blackened Frog or an accuracy/evasion food like Jack-o'-Lantern are probably the best. (FYI: If you can not make Blackend Frogs you can buy them from Nuh Celodehki I-7 Kazham for about 3133 gil each and gives you +2 Dex and Agi -2 Mind and +14% Attack and Range Attack and Evasion +5).

3. When you see an Armor is going to use Edge of Death or Aetheral Toxin it will remain motionless. Run out of range until you sheath your Lotus Katana and then wait for a moment for it to come to you to resume the fight. If either of these lands it helps to have the HP regen from the au Lait working for you. The normal armors only do 0-2 damage per hit and their attack misses often (though I am now mithra so that might help as well)

4. Many people fight in the home town areas. These Armors are in area's like La Theine Plateau and Jugner Forest. Just remember that when the Cap is removed you will agro monsters if they are stronger than you.

5. Attack an Armor then run away to pull it to a safer area that the Usukane Armor will not agro you. I prefer to move to a zone to make it easier to watch my back.

6. If you choose to do so you can get a buff like protect, shell, stoneskin, and so forth prior to talking to the nomad moogle. This can greatly increase your chances of surviving. However, you can not have spells like such cast by/upon you while you have the cap on.

7. An armor does not regenerate HP that I’ve seen. This means that if you do KO and can find the same Armor you can attack and fight it again at the same place as when you started.

I hope this information helps! Good luck to each and every one of you~

This is madness! The Mithra armor, Usukane is on friggin' god mode! On Bismarck server, right outside Bastok everybody was attacking this Usukane that aggroed anyone it ran near. It was like a thousand to one, I tells ya!

Here's a pic of it:
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a326/Muddogg/Mud060428000828a.jpg

It would hit for about 50 hp, and as we all know, everyone was at about 45 or less hp so that was one hit kills. After respawning and dying, repawning and dying for about an hour we finally kill it, and one party gets the drop.

The grand almighty prize? Gold Flippin' CARP. If I wanted that I could have fished for that hour. So what's the deal?

Also can anyone tell me or anybody else that's asked this question a hundred times already what we are supposed to get from this quest?
RE: >.<
# Apr 29 2006 at 6:42 AM Rating: Decent
As far as I can tell the only real reward is the Teleport necklace. After lots of kills in a large party, we recieved the necklace drop quite rarely. Then Soloed one of the Elvaan armours and received one straight away. Did give the killing hit while using hundred fist effect, which may have some connection, and does make taking them out that much easier.
I've not heard of anyone getting the hardwood katana this year, i've tried talking to the moogles and trading with them after killing blows and no luck :(

# Apr 28 2006 at 12:16 PM Rating: Decent
Previous years of this event were so much better. All you had to do was hit it and accumulate % of DMG, then when you traded the katana back to the moogle that determined your reward. Basicaly 6-7 kills and you had enough energy stored in the katana to get the hard wood katana. This years event blows opo-opo nuts. You have to be in the party or alliance that delivers the final blow or you don't see any reward at all. It drops this years. #1 luckey if there are 2 alliacnes and yours is the one to deliver final blow. #2 you need to wind the damn lot. Atleast previous years everyone stood a 50/50 1:1 chance of getting there items. This year it's so gimped. Grr.. damn u SE. Should have kept mine from last year, but on right i had to drop it before you had event storage npc's SOB!

Mithra drops goldcarp which gives you +3 Dex

The special item here is the Sandorian Chocobo Stables Collar which teleports you to Sandy's Chocobo Stables.

All mobs (except Mithra from what I've seen) drops colored drops and monchi.

WHM/RNG is the best set up. Buff yourself and use widescan to find the armor. Stoneskin and Blink help ALOT.

alliances for this event lmao
# Apr 28 2006 at 4:41 AM Rating: Default
why would you even bother with alliances for this other than to kill the armors fast.... last year on this event i killed everyone solo including that god damn taru one which to me is the most pain in the ***** in the end of the event i came out with like 3 stacks of mochi for each race. events are made to be fun and take some time off of lvling and questsing or w/e you do in game. But if you think its fun the go up with an alliance thats cool i just think it funny when i read the posts with people having like 18 people fighting one armor lol

because you get rewards differently this year.
If your alliance hits the finishing blow, you get 8 mochi in treasure pool, with optional warp necklace and colored drops. now, if someone outside alliance hits the last hit (as most vultures plan to do) they get the prizes with only a few hits.

I really disagree with sqen's policy about these rewards and how they get collected, this seems to promote lurking even more than last year.. but gotta play with what they deal you.

Just got killing 2 of the Mithra Armors with an alliance. First time we killed one it droped 4 Gold Carps. Second time some JP player jumped into the fight and wouldn't accept our invites into the alliance got the kill and the drops. 30 minutes of our lives wasted cause of this guy. Then when asked even with the auto-translator what {Item} or {Treasure} he got, he just kept saying {I don't speak any English}. Could have used the auto-translator on the item... -_-

2 different types of armor

It seems there's 2 types of armor for this event, one that is like last year, finishing hit gets you mochi and possible color drop and a regional medal (10 uses, warps you to the corresponding stables).

The other is a Mithra armor, very fast, hits hard and has lots of hp. My alliance whittled one down to about 10 percent hp at which point everyone vultured to it and someone else's team got the rewards..

I'm wondering what the mithra armor gives from beating it up. Anyone got the reward yet?

I've seen 4 types af armors representing all four races. On Diablos I had an allience of 18 take the Mithra armor down. We got 4 gold carps. I didn't even get one! Hardly seems worth it since the fight took forever.

I'm not sure what types armor I was encountering, should have wrote it down I guess. So far though I've gotten the following:
1 clear drop
1 Blue drop
1 Black drop

8 Tarutaru Mochi
24 Galka Mochi

The mochi was coming in eight at a time. THe drops one drop per armor whacked.
