New Features in Aht Urhgan(06/21/2006)

The next version update will introduce a number of new features to make life in Aht Urhgan all the more convenient! The FINAL FANTASY XI Development Team has put several measures into effect since the release of the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion disc to lessen the congestion in Al Zahbi, including adjustments to Besieged and the introduction of auction house fees and bazaar taxes. The upcoming Mog Locker expansion and the introduction of new features in Aht Urhgan are designed to create a more convenient atmosphere for players. While the effects of these changes may not be immediately visible, we believe that these measures will eventually result in less overcrowding of the new towns. Mog Locker Expansion The Mog Locker was introduced for the convenience of players exploring the new areas of Aht Urhgan. In order to preserve in-game balance, the Mog Locker was given an initial capacity of 50 items and limited to use in Al Zahbi. Even more players than expected have begun to use this service, so we decided to eliminate some of the restrictions on the Mog Locker during the next version update. 1. Maximum capacity increased to 60 items Following the next version update, trading Aht Urhgan currency to Fubruhn in Aht Urhgan Whitegate will allow you to increase your Mog Locker capacity to hold 60 items. 2. Access expanded to areas outside Al Zahbi You will soon be able to use your Mog Locker in your Mog House from anywhere in Vana'diel after the completion of certain free procedures. However, these procedures will slightly shorten the length of a Mog Locker lease, which costs one Imperial bronze piece to renew. In addition, the remaining time on the current lease will be proportionately reduced. Of course, you can always choose to make your Mog Locker usable only in Al Zahbi once again. 3. Mog Locker lease renewable from any area In accordance with the Mog Locker access expansion, players will also be able to renew their lease for one Imperial bronze piece from a Mog House at any location. New Features in Aht Urhgan After careful consideration of the effects on game balance, the FINAL FANTASY XI Development Team has deemed the following features ready for addition to the towns of the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion disc: 1. Chocobo Stables Grand Opening The chocobo stables in Al Zahbi will finally open for use in the next version update. Players will be able to rent a chocobo in Al Zahbi and ride out into the Wajaom Woodlands. Please note, however that the NPCs at the chocobo stables may be captured during Besieged, disabling chocobo use until their rescue. 2. New NPCs The following NPCs will be added to the towns of Al Zahbi and Aht Urhgan Whitegate: -An equipment storage NPC -A special event item storage NPC -A weather forecast NPC -A Pursuivant NPC to transport players to Brenner and Ballista matches Furthermore, additions will be made to the number of special event items that can be stored.

They're most likeley waiting and watching to see how other people use them in parties. They're probably going to create the stats of the AF based on how people use the new jobs, or how they want them to be used as opposed to how they are being used. That's my guess anyway.

This is about the only statement pertaining to the new AF that I've seen that makes lots of sense. Everyone gets over-hyped and tries to rush in these new items, but yet they fail to realize that creating a set of armor that is usually hard to get, that looks awesome, TAKES TIME! Listen to what this person said.

Besides the fact of stats, they have to create multi sets of quests, for 3 new jobs, for people to obtain them. Don't you think it's going to take a while to develop something of such a large scale? So, seeing this, let SE take their time so their isn't a bunch of dissappointment involved. After all, it'd be much worse for them to suddenly come out with 3 new sets of AF that turn out to be quite useless just for the pleasing of the people's impatience.

That's my two-cents...

About the new Mog Locker expansions ... I think it's a great idea to do this, b/c it in turn will even out the populace in Aht Urghan. The lag there is much worse than it is in Lower Jeuno, for me anyways, and I'm on a DSL connection. And the added space in the locker, that's good too. I just wish they would take away the excise tax on renewing the thing...or else make it just a standard gil fee like the armor storage person found in the 3 nations and in some Outpost areas.

Anyways, SE is doing their best. And I'm sure that our voices are heard, one way or the other, through forums like this. Just keep the posts rolling, and things will happen. :-)
DVD Rom tray / mog locker blues.

I know that few will read this far, but aside from ZOMG AF NOWZORZ 1337 BLUUU!!! and all that, it's very very very nice that they are making it so I can get into my mog locker in areas other then that one now.
After a reformat of my PC, my DVD ROM drive broke so I can't install the expansion and now I can't get to anything I had in the locker. I'd like to get my BLM AF piece, but my Rare/EX Whine Cellar Key is stuck in limbo atm.

To be quite honest, I've spent all morning looking for a place where you can get the ToAU in CD form instead of DVD. I plainly own a copy. I've installed it and registered it. I've unlocked 2/3 new jobs. I have the ugly box and fat case with the useless DVDs. I even dinged 75 in the new areas on my first job, but I can't go there now.

Maybe I should ask SE. ><

The game doesn't exist on CD format, it was only released on DVD. DVD drives aren't exactly expensive. You can replace the drive for less than the expansion cost you frankly. Maybe you can search around for a torrent.

after reading the post about cleaning the ps2 out, i decided ***** it, im gonna try this out because i had the same 'disc read error' problem common with these things. You have no idea how much dust collects inside until you open it up and start sneezing. my lens moving thing wasnt stuck, i just needed to blow all the dust out. i put it back together thinking 'i dunno how this could possibly solve anything' but bam, it reads em all now. (/psych). word of advice if you plan on taking your ps2 apart though, remember where you got your screws from, ive got 3 extra somehow.

Here is what I did and also intructed my LS to do.
I preformed open heart surgery on my PS2 8D
Seriously though... I figured it was screwed up anyway... So I took it apart. What was simple wrong with mine (and most others I intructed) was that little handle thing that moves the lens to red the discs? Mine was stuck. As it it was gunked, jammed, melted into place, w/e. So I gently popped it loose. And while I was in there I cleaned the lense, slider, and anything else needing cleaning. And my my PS@ works better then my brand new PS2 Slim! Ignore the fact I lost all the screws and the PS2 is now delicatly placed together.... I am trying to break my evil duct-tape habbit >< Just aint cool.

increased Fees and Taxes?!?!
# Jun 21 2006 at 11:54 PM Rating: Good
including adjustments to Besieged and the introduction of auction house fees and bazaar taxes.

what the hell? they come out with an expansion with a new city and they're surprised that it's becoming over crowded?? So they start adding more/higher Fees and Taxes. thats not going to change anything, Jeuno for Example! Players are still going to go there and it will still be crowded.

On a side note: If SE wants to get rid of RMT give the newer players a chance to make gil before taxing it all out of them

Aaaaaaaaahahahahaha

I just laughed my lungs out. O, My, F, G.

It's what we call "The Black Market" 'cuz the Jeunoan government don't know that the Bazaar owners are being paid under the table.

Seriously... In Rolanberry Fields on Seraph server, it seems it's now considered mandatory to trip and stumble on your way in. Got aggro? Just zone into Sauromugue or Batallia. At least you'll live that way.

However, on a more positive note, an obstacle course full of FFXI characters sure helps out the navigation skills, which I'm sure we've all found useful when we finally go to Garlaige Citadel to pull bats for the first time. 'Oi.

the addition of the bazaar fee can gradually reduce the number of mules that are sitting in al zahbi and whitegate.

the reason is that if you have an item that's, let's say, over level TWENTY to use, you want to be in either jeuno or aht urghan to sell it, since that is where people of a highger job level tend to congregate. between those 2 choices, one had a bazaar fee and one did not, so people packed up their bazaars and set them up in aht urghan. more mules / bazaars means more lag in town.

of course this doesn't take into account the "rolanberry mall" phenomenon that occurs on my server. i dont think there are tons of mules in aht urghan... i dont see them. maybe on some servers it has turned into the new lower jeuno.

EDIT: Something weird has happened to this post and it is now floating around on random topics - not where it's supposed to be, on the message boards. I did not post off-topic, so please don't rate me down, lol... this message is lost in the ether somewhere, and poking its head out of random wormholes in the fabric of the cosmos!

# Jun 21 2006 at 10:36 PM Rating: Good
Frankly SE's mind games are getting annoying. It would ease everyone if they announced the BLU, PUP, and COR, AF gear already. We've seen it in the pics, videos and cutscenes in the game. Now where the hell is it!?

SE should know by now that players have had tons of experience leveling up jobs from 1-75 in a matter of months. So stop distracting us with this cool and awesome updates, and get to the point.

Mog locker usable in other areas: This is the only reason I wasn't using it.
Chocobos available: Finally, I know a lot of people who were crying about this.
The mention of taxes were what they already changed, I don't know why people are mad about that now.

Heaven forbid they make the changes in small installments. If you wanted it all at once then you would have had to have waited another 6 months for the game, would you have been happier with that?
RE: SE does it again...
# Jun 22 2006 at 2:42 AM Rating: Excellent
Very good points. A game this large must have well planned execution of updating and integrating. Game stability is the most important thing. if i have to wait a little longer for features that will make the game more enjoyable, then that is okay. Especially if those features could cause increased server maintenance and troubleshooting.
It is not easy to satisfy hundreds of thousands of customers, especially caffeinated game addicts (myself included). This game was awesome without the expansion, and is even better with it, and will continue to get better.
Too much stress is bad for you, so i try not to stress over ffxi. work, school, and other facets of life cause enough tension. Sorry to get philosophical. Enjoy yourself everyone!

I just want my BLU AF... Why they even waited this long when alot of people are already at or past the levels to use it beyond me... Most likely they were thinking that people wouldn't level these jobs incredibly fast like alot of people did. But if you find out you don't have to fight Maat on a job for awhile, you're gonna wanna get that Job past 70 so you won't have to fight him. (unless you're one of those people who likes to say "I've beaten Maat with every job" or like to take it slow and get a feel for a job like me.)

But I still want them to hurry the hell up and put in my damned AF already!!!

Just because there isn't a Maat fight for those jobs, doesn't mean you can get past 70 with them if you haven't beat maat before.

You'll still have to go through the quest to unlock lvls 71-75, you just won't be able to do it with the new jobs yet.

everything regarding mog lockers is frustrating and infuriating.

wtf does game balace have to do with having chocobos in expantion areas. people use them to get from point A to point B thats all. considering that most high level areas cant be gotten to without going through a dungeon, chocos will be used in very limited areas. the whole game balace BS they are talkin about is just pointless.

It could still be coming. Still got a while to go until the update; there's no reason for them to release all the info at once. They're deliberately leaving us in the dark.

Plus, isn't it fun to speculate about what they're adding, only to have your dreams crushed? I kid, I kid... Maybe.
