This is one of the items "updated" from Jan. 22, 2006 maintenance. What exactly has changed about it?

A simple question: this says combat caster, but no mages can use it... What is SE smoking?

DRKs are Combat Casters. Absorbs, Stun, Drain, and Aspir only, though.

Well I'm a BST and I sub mage. Does that count? I melee and I also cast in combat. ::shrugs::

... Just a thought.

And DRK can't use magic?

It's called Combat Caster because the NQ is part of the level 40 Windurst CP set, which is all called Combat Caster.

Ok then, answer me this: Have you honestly ever seen a Dark Knight use an axe in an experience party, or in any situation at all? Probably not, Here's why:
1) Dark Knights have to have a two handed weapon (i.e. a scythe, greatsword, greataxe) to use Weapon Bash. I know, Weapon Bash does minimal damage, but when an enemy is casting Cure V on itself or an Ancient Magic on you, and you can't Stun it, you're gonna be glad you have Weapon Bash to fall back on.
2) Dark Knights are focused primarily on the use of melee attacks to damage their foes, not magical attacks.
3) This is negligible, but Dark Knights don't even really have much in the way of axe skills, and their artifact weapon is in fact a scythe, not an axe.

As for the whole conquest thing, I know it's the windurst Conquest item, I'm from there, and have the +2 in my safe.

You will indeed find some DRK who use axes. Usually if they are smart enough you will find them using axes in lvl cap events, such as CoP Mammet fight. At lower lvl the skill difference it minimal but the output difference is noticeable. DRK/NIN in lvl 40 cap dual wield CC Axe try it out, you will be surprised when you parse your results.

Old thread but just so everyone knows, this is
really just an HQ Synth obtained while upgrading
the CP Axe so it's more of a +1 then a +2 as far
as synthing difficulty goes. Much like Kingdom/
Federation/Republic gear which also shows as being +2.

I just bought mine last night. I am on Bahamut. There was only 2 history of sales at Jeuno for these and both sold for 70 K. There was only 1 in stock and I bought mine for 100 K. Significantly over priced, but hey, I like to spoil myself. I will dual wield this and the Razor Axe until 48, where I will replace the Razor Axe with the uber Viking Axe. Next replacement is the Darksteel Axe +1 at level 54. So they are usable for 11 levels. Not too bad.
