brass spear is a woodworking recipe, cap 22 as far as i know. however, this recipe DOES require goldsmithing skill as well as woodworking skill.
at lvl 54 woodworking skill, i just failed this recipe many times and got goldsmithing skill ups on it. i dont know what level goldsmithing required to make these with woodworking.

400 woodworking guild points for this item.

I was just looking around seeing what recipes the guild npcs would give, when i got this:
Brass Spear
Necessary skills: Woodworking
Necessary crystal: Wind Crystal
Necessary items: 1x Brass Ingot 1x Piece of Ash Lumber 1x Spool of Linen Thread

so this item does not require any goldsmithing at all.. just wanted to clear that up for people

Edit: typos >_<

Actually and unfortunatly it does require goldsmithing. I just synthed a full stack of these for guild points with two breaks and 1.1 goldsmithing skillups. I started with 0 goldsmithing skill and brought it up to 1.1 with this synth so the cap is at least 2 if not higher.

Skill cap is higher than 2.

My GS is at 2 and I received several skillups.

I was 8/12 on synths with no hq's. 78 ww

Looks like Sandy has to be in 2nd place at least for this to be sold. Sandy is currently in 3rd on Carbuncle, and the weapons shop doesn't list it.

I firmly believe that these are NOT GS 21.

I am currently leveling Woodworking to make Shihei for a static PT NIN friend and came across these. Since I have Goldsmithing to 20 (and just can't find a reasonable profit path to keep leveling it) I was delighted to find that these are a high-profit/moderate sale rate item to synth. I decided to synth them when Maple Sugar capped at 21 to bridge the gap a little more before trying Silver Arrows (cap 30).

After synthing 2 dozen of them I had easily gotten Woodworking to 22 (I did so after about 14 synths) but never saw a single GS skill-up. So GS =/= 21 as far as I can tell (either that or I experienced a HUGE statistical anomaly.)

And before you ask- yes my GS was uncapped so I am perfectly capable of skillups post 20.

GS 21 my a**

This spear cant be made with 21 Goldsmithing. I'm lv 25 myself, and when i try to make the spear, the game tells me that the synth is beyond my skill lvl. I bought in a stack of each ingredient you need for making this spear, and i'm really pissed because i cant use them... I was going to make some spark spears to raise my GS even more. Anyone else know the excact lvl required? Or is it only possible to make it with woodworking?
