Either way, they're great for buying at 1k to 1.5k and desynthing into elm lumber. Same goes for misery staffs. Even if you only pull off half your synths (which is a very low estimate), that's still huge profit if you sell the lumber or huge savings if you use it.
What level Woodworking do I need to desynth this to Elm lumber? I've never done a Desynth before, is it just Elm Staff + Lightnight Crystal?

sorry for the double post..
if this quest really needs a fame rating of 10, why would anyone do this? WAY too much trouble for a lvl 23 staff that can be bought in town..

I bought for 1,500gil yesterday. Not worth even doing quest.
The only reason its selling for 1.5k is because alot of people have done the quest, so if there wasnt this quest they would be selling of 15k+
