I had this for my DRK and it just isn't worth it. I use it for my BLM instead, to farm or mess around with.
something good for once?

sigh..... just another piece of ........ crap..... -_-;
death scythe and tredecim goes way over this.... they should start to make rare/ex scythes that would be worth to get.

Gravedigger or Death Scythe?

my friend bought a Death Scythe off Sandy AH for 10k about a year ago (titan server). i know that DRK's tend to use GS more in later levels, but just wondering: would it be better for a DRK to have a Death Scythe - DMG:97 Delay:528 with a HP drain effect that activates like one in every 10 swings, or having the Gravedigger? i personally think that gravedigger in the long-run would be better, assuming that you have a constant Crit Hit +6% when it is eqquiped, but i want the opinion of someone who knows what they are doing >.>

DPS

Oh, btw, this weapon with the latent off has a DPS (Damage Per Second) of 10.65. This is the 3rd highest DPS weapon that a Blm can wield. The highest two is a Thyrus and the Claustrum (i.e. a fully upgraded relic weapon). The Thyrus has a DPS of 10.75, the Claustrum has a DPS of 11.08

DPS (if you didn't know) is calculated by:

Damage / (Delay / 60)
87 / (490 / 60) = 10.65
72 / (390 / 60) = 11.08

great, just pointless. . .
a BLM's scythe caps "slightly" low (and alot lower then staff). Now skill = attack & accuracy. Even if the scythe has 2x dps of ur stick, what's the point if your scythe makes it high def&eva while ur stick makes both low ? What's the point of higher dps if u have like no good ws at all when staff offers at least "Spirit Taker" (dmg->MP) and dagger the "energy ***" ws' ? After all BLM is very limited in melee ability and equip. So pure dps of the weapon is only of minor concern unless you kill very very easy mobs.

i'm going to argue (as a very skilled soloing blm/whm) that yeah, DPS matters a LOT. Everything about blm soloing things that are NOT "very very easy" is damage over time. you can't walk around nuking teh **** outta things and expect to maximize your time hunting and kills. in battle, in between every few spells, you get a swing in. the delay on a scythe gives you enough time to keep up Rasp and Frost, get up SS/Blink, whatever... when those long in between swings come, they need to come with some force... from a scythe. If you're walking around beating **** to death with a staff, i have a feeling you're just fighting "very very easy mobs" anyway. if you're taking on NOT very easy mobs, then you best be binding and nuking from a distance anyway, in which case your weapon doesn't matter in the slightest. and even when duo hunting, and ESPECIALLY when solo hunting, i'm using a life belt, sole sushi, and sometimes some +dex equipment. soloing EP's and low low DC's at 73, you know what? they're low eva high def. my staff in the same set up with "slightly" higher skill? low eva high def. same frickin thing.

weapon skills...

when you need some silk thread, /drk and rape with guillotine. actually, ok, idk about this for sure being only at 190, but scythe CAN go over 200. and i know when i /drk, i DO get those lesser scythe skills that are not available to me with any other sub. i really can't imagine it wouldn't unlock guillotine for us... anyone know for sure? if i hit 200 soon, i will defintely update this post.
RE: weapon skills...
# Apr 20 2006 at 7:26 PM Rating: Good
Guillotine is DRK main only. The only extra WS you'd get from subbing /DRK is Shadow of Death. Also, BLM skill caps out at 210. While it may cap much much lower than Staff, some mobs are very strong to blunt weapons. It's these mobs that having a Gravedigger would help on, though it's doubtful you'll ever find yourself soloing these.

Edit: Spirit Taker is a mage's best friend; it'll change the face of farming. Go get yourself a Thyrsusstab and have fun with that.

#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 26 2006 at 1:43 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) In my humble Opinion Staff is a better weapon for Blm at least for the physically stronger races. Now this may change for Tarutaru but for me (Elvaan) when running around solo or fighting weaker mobs staff is better. When fighting EP and weaker mobs Spirits Within does decent damage 120-200 pts of damage and replenishes MP one point for every point of damage done with the WS. The staff doesn't do huge damage but I can cast a tier IV spell and then finish mobs off weapon damage and a Spirits Within and with Black Cloak to refresh me rarely have issues with MP loss. This is how I farm and solo. Just a suggestion. I don't claim to have all the answers just what I do. (Btw never ever use DoTs on mobs that are EP or higher when soloing unless they are NOT sleepable ({Hecteye mobs, bats sleepable but very resistant} and Undead) cause you never know when you will need to sleep them and rest up some from a bad stretch of luck. I say that cause someone said earlier something about Elemental Debuffs (Frost).

I finally got the latent off my Gravedigger. I was solo'ing bunny's in Uleguerand Range. Before the latest was off, I was hitting for around 50-80. The typical hit was for 77. After the latest was off, I was hitting for 70-100. The typical hit was 90.

Afterwards, I ran around Konschtat Highlands beating up on Too Weaks.. The amazing thing is that normal hits were around 200 and some of my crits were hitting for (a bit) over 300. To me, this was insane damage from a Blm melee'ing. It's really too bad that Blm's don't get any decent Scythe WS...

Oh, my Scythe skill is only at 175+5 (from Abyssal Earring). I think you can work off the Latent effect faster by SC'ing (like a Trial Weapon). I mostly solo'ed my WS, but I did use my Gravedigger in god pop runs and some misc skill up. During the god pop runs and misc skill up parties, I did a few (random) SC.. I did keep track of the number of WS's I did... and the Latent wore at around 470 WS.. So, either I didn't mark down that I did those last 30 WS's or SC'ing gave me more points.

umm latent effect is when your health is red/yellow (not 100% sure bout yellow)

Latent Effect can be anything, it just means that the conditions for the effect aren't given. Some latent items are activated by hp, some by subjobs, some by other things. In this case the latent trigger is less than 100% tp.

If you want to see an example of a subjob triggered item look up the Genning Earring. The "latent effect AGI+4" is triggered by a /NIN subjob. Equip one with a /NIN sub and you'll see the +4 AGI on your equipment screen. Switch subs and it goes away. I know this from personal experiance with THF/NIN. It's why the item sells for 500k, every THF/NIN wants one.

Adjust the resolution of menus.
The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.
If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.

I thought of it first:

how do you check the tp one? does it display dmg 87 and then change back to 74 after 100%?

is there a site that's researched all this already?
RE: latent

IT's not Tp based. As other people have said, you need 500 ws points, like the of trials items, however one item that IS TP based is the Hachiman Kote. They give +10 attack when over 100% TP.

Aryle is right. All these new rare/ex items have their latent effects unlocked, similarly to the '* of trials' weapons, but require 500 points, and once unlocked, the latent effect is permament.
#Lobivopis, Posted: Apr 26 2005 at 8:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The laten isn't subjob activated, it's active when you have less than 100 tp.

Since most ppl weapon skill at 100, I don't think it's too worthless since 90% of your attacks will have a chance of benefitting the effect. 90% is just throwing out a number... But I don't play any job that can use this, so who knows, maybe they want to build up 200+ tp...
