Hidden effect - Stun!!!

A friend of mine told me about a Nin that he farms with that occasionally uses these... And said that they had a hidden effect of stun.

Obviously the first reaction of anyone reading this is, oh yeah, somebody said that somebody said... Blah blah blah... And that was infact my reaction.

I have used these on and off for about about 3 months and never seen this "Stun" effect. However, and I still haven't found out what triggers it, but I popped some Sushi, and went into the 5 Mammets fight for CoP 6-4... About 20 shuriken in I suddenly saw

Lythe Hits Mammet blah for 86 (or something like that) damage.
Additional Effect: Stun!

Totally shocked, I ended up lossing track of a mammet while I scrolled through the combat log, and where I was fighting I couldn't see the dmg of anyone other then the BLM that was assisting me... And they were not meleeing...

Sure enough, it happened 2 more times that night, so 3 out of 50 shuriken is not a great proc rate, however, my throwing has slacked off a bit (it is currently around 170, it should be in the low 200s). So that could explain the rare proc rate of it.

Needless to say, time for me to go back and farm some more Quadav backplates (btw I have only made 1 darksteel ingot out of ~100 desynths of back plates:(... However, my smithing is at 58. Which I am currently at a 50% successrate at synthing these dang things... Costing 200k a stack if I buy the ingredients...:(. But I am hoping to find the correct day yet to synth the backplates and actually make it reasonable to use these in Exp parties... The dmg, and the fact that they can stun (thereby giving me a chance to recast)... That is, if I can find out what gives it the stun ability...

Very interesting. Next time when you see a stun effect in the log, please screenshot it if possible. My Ninja has throwing skill capped, and is currently lv69. I throw these since I synth my own shurikens. I still haven't seen any stun effect yet out of all the time I used these.

Also, a detail of the exact gears you were wearing and the food you ate might also give some insight in this supposed stun effect.

Unfortunately, I am on a PS2, so I can't screen cap it, however, I will see if someone I am w/ at the time can fraps it or something...

As for food, I *think* I was using dorado sushi, however, I have tried now with another full stack of shurikens, and it hasn't proced once...

I will figure this out even if it drives me broke!!!

too late...:(

Oh, and for the armor, I was using AF Legs, Head and hands. SH body, Fuma Boots, Quick Belt, Emp Hairpin, Shinobi Ring, Dodge Earrings, lvl 54 Windfan Katanas.

One thing I think I will try is weakening it to wind and trying them... I know, it's a stretch... but there has got to be something that is causing it... And when it did happen, it wasn't that rare (around 1 ever 10 shuriken).... Though that didn't last.

Well, if all goes well, we will be doing 6-4 again tonight. I think I have solved the riddle behind the hidden effect, however, I do want to try and test it.

I will however give my current theory, which, makes sense on why noone has found or noticed this hidden effect before.

I believe it is:
Additional Effect: Stun When targeted by a spell

This would explain why it only triggered while I was fighting the mamets, as well as why it only fired off 3 times.

If this proves to be true and correct, I see a whole group of mobs that ppl would have never considered exping on becoming very much the best mobs for a nin to tank... Just imagine, Blm type mobs use staves and clubs... Deal little dmg, and have obnoxious AoE Magic, and ancient magic abilities... I would be willing to tank IT+++ mobs like that if I could stun every spell they try and cast:).

Anyways, this is still theory, since I have not been able to fully test it (it is only based on past experience, and has not been tested explicitly)... The only real problem is ranged weapon procs are about 90%... So there is still a marginal chance that the spells will still make it through...

I will post again tomorrow on my findings.

<Update>
Well, one of our static had to bail, so we didn't get to do the run, however, I did test my theory on a thunder elemental... And an Orc out in Lufaise... No proc... My next guess is to the mob type, however, I am not sure if a Mamet is a Puppet type (Golem, Doll, Pot), or an Undead, or Humanoid... So, that will take some more research, and again, I am out of Manji (only using about 33 at a time).

I am currently making these at 57.7 Smithing. I can only make them the way that it says above (Wind Crystal, Darksteel Sheet, Tama-Hagane). They go for 140-150k on AH in Caitsith Server. If anyone on that server is needing these, I would be greatful to make you however many you want. I will sell them for 130k/99 at this time. If the price drops or anything, so will mine. Please send me a tell if you are interested. Send a tell to "Famine."

Thanks,
Famine (Caitsith)

Ok, in and of themselves, these are incredibly expensive to make. However, much like all the ninja gear, it was never meant to be crafted... directly.
I hope this doesn't come back to bite me, since I am still working on lvling my smithing to get here, but... here it is
Quadav backplate + right day + proper moghouse setup + synth support = Darksteel sheet pretty consistantly (again not here, so I am making an assumption that could be dangerous... but so far, I have not found one de-synth where this has not been true for me)
Wakazashi + same deal = Tama-hagane
multiply that by 3 = 1 stack of manji shuriken
Estimated cost per stack
5k for Backplates (assuming 60% hq result)
8k for wakazashi (assuming price in Norg and only norg... bastok is always more expensive and 60% hq result)
so 13k a stack.

Now, I say this because that is my expectation. If I can follow through with this and maintain under 20k a stack when I get here I will post an update. But something to for ppl to think about, and please, if anyone is a high enough lvl smith to try this at 60 (I never plan on unlocking anything above 60 for smithing) let me know your success rate... I don't want to fail consistantly on something 5 lvls below me...
