Fun little thing to do is sort AH scythe's by DMG and this scythe will ALWAYS appear on top, above Death Scythe +1 and Triton's Scythe in spite of the lower base dmg. Why? because the 13th critical hit is roughly factored at around 6-7% to our own crit hit rate, so its kind of like Gravedigger but better.

I know for a fact that this scythe, every 13th hit is a Crit. I haven't tested this, but I have been told that crit hit merits have no effect whilst using this scyth. If anyone know please reply.

P.S Orichilum Scythe FTW!!! ^^

Crit merits will always work. just every 13 hit will be critical.

Tred scythe > O. Scythe
Nice!

Ok this scythe IS better then Death Scythe for the most part. Yeah every 13th hit IS critcal, including misses, but WS folds also count.. now if your DRK/WAR using this, using guillotine:

You have double attack, which means that 13th critical is comming up a lil faster.

Guillotine is a 4 fold attack, these 4 count twords the 13th critcal.

adding double attack and guillo spam you will critcal @ss loads, overall pushing your damage higher then any other scythe. plus dont forget your natural criticals. Sometimes your critcal can land on your Guillo so you wont see "so-and-so scores a critical hit." You usually can tell from higher then normal WS's. Also subbing WAR allows you to "Double Attack" your weaponskill, you can tell from how much tp you get before and after ws w/ and w/o war sub. (always 17tp with this scythe w/o double attack on Guillotine." This double attack COUNTS as another swing, thus making this scythe all the better. The only time i see Deathscythe as being better is soloing and farming.
Hope i cleared up a lot of speculation on this scythe. As for the mp/tp drain added effect, i have never seen it so i dont know.

This weapon on Shiva server is dirt cheap, even after the inflation. Only costs on average 10k to 30k which was the highest ever paid for it. Guess not many Drks know about it or possibly a common drop for us on Shiva but few make it on the AH and stay for more than a few hours.
Hmm

Do WS hits count as hits? If so imagine a SA cross reaper after 11th hit...both cross reaper hits would crit 100% of the time!
bullshit

as of right now unless someone gives me a pic of someone in ballista having plague after getting hit with this scythe, im declaring the hidden effect plague ********* kill 300 mobs varying between too weak - IT and it didnt go off once with any visual effect or
Additional effect: plague
thing so thats out, ill test that 13 hit critical thing tho, but unless there is some identifiable proof the plague is for buffalo only

Point of note, I have a Power Staff and the added effect (which isn't hidden, it's STR Boost) does not have any visual proc. Without the status icon appearing at the top of my screen, I'd never know that it had gone off. So the Plague is not necessarily impossible, but the critical every 13th hit seems more likely.

The last rumor for a hidden effect seemed pretty easy to test out and so far it looks like it could be true.

I ran a test of 200 attacks on mobs that conned Too Weak, and every 13th attack (counting misses but not WS) from a certain point was indeed a critical hit. The scythe seems to have a memory, so logging out or zoning will not reset the counter. I did not test to see if selling the scythe and repurchasing it, or buying a 2nd scythe, affects the counter. I also have yet to test it on Easy Prey or harder mobs, which significantly lowers critical hit rate in the case that all of my 13th attacks just happened to all be a normal critical hit (I am a mithra after all).

As for the older rumor, I have never once seen the so-called "Plague" effect proc, having heard many ideas about it such as a need to unlock it with 500 WSes (like the series of Latent effect weapons earned in Kindred Seal BCs). The ability to lower mobs TP would seem worth the effort yet no one seems to have done this as far as I know.

Still, if the 13th attack = forced critical hit, that would mean this scythe is basically Critical Hit +8% (rounding up from 7.6%). That's a pretty respectable number, since the previously mentioned latent effect weapons are +6% and you have to work to unlock that. =^.^=

And lastly, I am pretty sure the language the number Tredecim comes from is Latin.

According to a Chinese website, this scythe has
a hidden effect: the 13th attack is always a
critical hit.

miss and regular hit are counted as an attack,
WS is not.

Tredecim means 13 in German.

PS. I have not personally tested this scythe, all infomation above are from a Chinese website, can be found here: webbbs.gamer.com.tw/readPost.php?brd=FFXI&p=8964&rand=20050609

EDIT: I'm sorry if I made a mistake about the language thing, as I dont know any German myself, but
Quote:
11 undecim, 12 duodecim, 13 tredecim, 20 viginti, 30 triginta, 100 centum.

it doesn seem to mean 13, although I dont know what language it is. ^^;

considering the buffalo have a job ability that plagues you, it is reasonable that this scythe would have a hidden effect like that.

This drops from the NM Buffalo named Bonnacon in Uleguerand Range. I personally don't find those mobs particularly easy to beat, let alone an NM version. You can find Bonnacon as a lottery pop of regular buffalos near (D-8); he also drops Cure Clogs (or so I'm told). =^.^=

I'm assuming it comes from one of the harder uncapped BCNMs, so if that's the case, I'd guess it's for show. But I still love my Death Scythe more. Yay Death Scythes!

i saw this scythe on AH the other night and i was wondering why anyone would want to use it.

compared to the death scythe it is higher lvl, less damage, more delay and has no additional effect : Drain.

There has gotta be something up with this scythe, maybe a hidden effect of some sort.
