Not like I'm providing new, surprising info or anything. But I figure that this has to be said. :/

Anyone who is past 60, can start leveing their NPC friend here. It's excellent, and the mobs are easy. The Desert Dhalmel strikes me as especially easy for its size, and it doesn't hit that hard either (in my opinion). Of course, mages may have a hard time due to its Silence attack, but bring some Echo Drops to fix that.

If the levels are correct, your fellowship partner could reasonably go to 42-43 without dropping off too far in the EXP-to-kill ratio.

This isnt very insightful, but i noticed it makes a difference. You can do some serious damage to these Dhalmels if you skillchain just as they let off their "Berserk" ability. Im not sure what it is called, but you'll notice the jump in attack that it grants the beast.

Now as anyone knows who has soloed stuff for gags in later levels, using Berserk does help you kill the thing faster, but at the expense of a large defeceit in your defence. So when this thing is getting its **** whooped by parties, try and have the DDs save their weaponskills and skillchains for when it is active.

As a drg i tried this a bit and the waiting also granted me access to another Jump attack, to further bring it down faster. So other jobs, like thf, can also benefit from having abitlities like sneak and trick attack to back up.

Now im not saying don't use your weaponskills and skillchains unless it has berserk up. Obviously if need is to bring the beast down faster, do it whenever it is active, but I found that they seem to "panic" when they are taking heavy damage and they try and take something down with them.

I just found it to do siginificantly more damage to it and resulted in the mob dying faster if you let loose with your abilities once it has done so. It can help to speed up the chaining of these mobs and reduce some downtime because it isn't in berserk mode for most of the fight, as it is getting a serving from the dds.

I hope this is useful for anyone who is partying in Altepa desert. I do like partying there, but i have an itching need in my blood to DESTROY ALL ANTICA!!!!

P.S. Kill some antica for me would you :|
Attacks

Sonic Wave: Defense down
Cold Stare: silence attack
as well as Stomp, it's double attack and it's curing ability

My party started leveling off of these at 32-33 (rng/rng/whm/blm/rdm/pld) we kicked there butts. before that we did bettles. we were getting about 5k an hour off of the bettles. it's a great alternative to garleige citadel.

ADVICE:
mages face away from the mob as to avoid being silenced. the whm also has to be quick about Silena on any NIN or PLD in the party.

Can be Difficult.. sometimes ^^

Now.. I play in a static which is nothing like your normal exp group.. so my experiences may be different. I'm not saying normal experience groups cant do it but they may have a more difficult time.

My static has been leveling subs so we have the wierdest party make up ever!

SMN/BLM/BRD/NIN/PAL/WAR

SMN gets toplay whm and I the BLM (whose main is WHM...) do quite a bit of the damage. In any case with the paly tanking we can often chain 3-4 these with the occasional bug. The worst we've had is one that healed himself 1200hp... ended up doing the SC twice on him which... more then made up for it.

With whimpy healing (Our Galka pld with less mp then the bard... is the only one with cure 3) we still manage to take these out.

I do have one suggestion to anyone out there.. that may or may not read this.. SKIll chains are GOOD. Especially with a BLM. when the bard has TP I can MB 3 different spells... How many parties can you say that in?

Raging axe > blade: retsu > Stone II > Red Lotus Blade > Firaga
or when the bard has TP..

Shadowstitch > Raging axe > Thunder > blade: retsu > Stone II > Red Lotus Blade > Firaga
or when the bard has TP..

basically the SC adds about 4-500 damage... which is a huge help in taking these out.

Work as a team and anything can be killed !

Good hunting!

These things hurt, but don't listen to me; check this out:
it has double attack
it can gain regen effect (not really sure, hope not)
it can get berserk
it can get defender (more sure of this than the regen but still)
healing winds: i saw this heal it for more than 214 damage once, no lie, nit really i'm not ******** around
it has a very high defense (the drk reminded me of myself, and i'm a pal, my damage was nonexistent)

i farmed these for leathercraft several weeks ago. I can confirm the following:
AOE healing effect - about curaga II
berserk
double attack
silence attack
and i think there is another attack that lowers mind, but i could be thinking of another mob

In West they also have an Def. down attack. It's devestating! It took our PLD's def. from 240 to 130. I don't think they have this ability in east, but I am not sure. If you have a white mage with erase, it's not a big deal, otherwise I'd beware of this
